MAN UTD TRIP FOR YOUNG BLUES
Youth Cup logoBlues have been drawn away to Manchester United in the third round of this season's FA Youth Cup.
Although it is probably the hardest possible tie that Blues could have faced, Academy manager Terry Westley has described it as a "great draw" and says it will be a good opportunity for his players to test themselves.
"It's a great draw for us," Westley told bcfc.com
"We've been picked out against one of the biggest clubs in Europe.
"In youth development and with the players they produce and the way they go about things it's easily one of the best clubs.
"So for our boys to go up there and pit themselves against their best players will be a terrific challenge for us.
"We've had some good runs in the past three seasons but this will be the severest of tests, but one that our players should really be looking forward to.
"We've got some good young players of our own with the likes of Ashley Sammons, Mitch McPike and Jordon Mutch who are all England under 19 squad players, as well as the England under 17 goalkeeper Jack Butland."
Westley is hopeful that because it is two top flight teams who have been drawn together that Manchester United may elect to use Old Trafford as the venue for the tie.
"I know that Manchester United have got permission to play at other grounds - Northwich I think, but they may decide that because it's a Premiership club against a Premiership club to play it at Old Trafford," he said.
"I know they did that last year when they played against Chelsea.
"Whether our manager (Alex McLeish) can have any influence with Sir Alex we'll have to see, but wherever we play it's a great chance for our youngsters."
