Get him in, he's a more accomplished player than Longstaff.

Accomplished in that he's more experienced, has an international profile and better career stats, and is just a more cultured and talented player overall
Would be a brilliant signing. Has everything to be a world class center midfielder in the future. Excellent technique and decision making, mature head on his shoulders, pretty two footed, can pass it really well and is just a well rounded, composed midfielder who is the right mentality to step up as well IMO.
Better sign him now rather then watch him become world class elsewhere and try to sign him in 2-3 years for over 100m.

I'm a fan. He'd be a great addition and an improvement on all our midfielders bar Pogba.
If we sign him we had better sign Rice or a pure #6 of some sort.

I remember the last World Cup he played against the England ‘s midfield and dictated the game with ease. We desperately need players who can control the game.
OGS had mentioned this numerous time, we need to be able to hold on to the ball better but we don’t have the midfielders to do this currently.
Even though we spend over 200 million on the midfield department.
If we get Longstaff or Tielemans, they would go straight into that midfield and improve us 10 fold.
I had hoped Perrera would have been the player we needed, a player that controls the midfield, but he seems too rash and easily disposed of the ball.

Im not sold on Longstaff. He has very little league experience and could join United and struggle on the big stage like the more talented Pereira is. There's no telling. He could improve United overtime but expectations should be managed, I don't think he'd make an immediate impact

Newcastle’s good form started when Longstaff was at the heart of their midfield. When he got injured they were not the same team as before.
Tieleman would be the less risk purchase, but if we can’t get him I would be intrigued with Longstaff. I am not a big fan of Rice and I don’t think he is the type of player we should go for. We need to look for a player that can dictate the game.
Periera has regressed, playing him as a winger didn’t really help his game at all.
Longstaff is one for the future. Nothing more. If that’s our strategy we might as well just promote Garner.
I could also see Pereira improving quite a bit next season.
More that he was young, fragile and might not suit the league well. Seems to have done alright though
Can't understand why United just don't get this done. He's fairly reasonably priced, young, had a great loan spell at Leicester and we need a couple of quality midfielders. Get it done Woodward.
Unfortunately we don’t seem to trust our youth as much. We played Rashford because of LVG and he was stuck by Jose ot he would be crucified.
Liverpool started playing TAA, Joe Gomes and Sterling. They’re reaped the rewards from it. We have to wait till they’re 21 and have 4 seasons of experience before giving them a proper role in the team.
Newcastle's upturn in form started when Almiron added another dimension to their attack after his debut. Newcastle only won 3 (2 in the league) games in their first 10 after Longstaff's debut in the 4-0 loss to Liverpool while they won 4 out of 10 after Almiron's debut with more points gained and more goals scored. Perhaps Longstaff's rise 'at the heart of their midfield' as you say coincided with that run as well but I think Almiron was more influential.
I really hope anyone saying Pogba is too inconsistent is not saying we should sign this player.
Agreed. Him and Pogba in the same team is a scary prospect.
He's been just fine, but by no means great, at Leicester. Not exactly what you hope for when pursuing a signing, but he's still young and has a lot of the tools required to be a top midfielder. His potential is still very high, despite an average showing in the PL. I wouldn't be against signing him and having him in our regular rotation. We need more agile passers of the ball in our midfield.
Tielemans is a good player, but I think Neves could be better as a playmaker.
If we are going to replace Herrera, then someone like N'Dombele would be ideal IMO.

Tielemans is much better at taking care of the ball imo. It entirely depends on the way Ole wants to play. Personally, I think we should try and sign ball players as a matter of priority.
It wouldn't surprise me if Longstaff has a better season than Tielemans and Neves.
Honestly I think people are getting carried away with Longstaff.
As we’ve seen before, having the tool(s) doesn’t necessarily mean he’ll perform consitently.
You could be right, and I guess I'm getting carried away, but I really do think there's potentially a top player in the making in him.
He looks a good player and could potentially be one of those ""should have got him before he turned good" players But only buying him and not a first team player will be a mistake (since we need a first team Midfielder Urgently). Will be the same mistake Jose made when he got potential in defence rather than a good experienced player in first 2 years, which we needed urgently.
This is a hype post if ever I saw one.
Ole also lambasted the fitness/workrate of the team and Pereira had the 3rd most sprints of our entire team and around the middle of total distance covered. He also won the ball with interceptions the 5th most out of our team with only Ander being a midfielder to make more. Tackles and interceptions combined Andreas was 3rd behind Ander and Fred and one of our best pressing players.
He was a bit disappointing on the ball I agree with that. Although when he actually got himself into a shooting position he scored our goal of the season so thats obviously more about getting himself into that area so that he can take shots and also being given the chance to take freekicks.
Longstaff doesnt currently do what you're suggesting either. He's another player who has good commitment and ball winning, better than Ander in that department. I dont know Newcastle's running numbers but I do know overall Newcastle were towards the top and it wouldnt be surprising if Longstaff was another player who covered a lot of distance.
Andreas got on the ball and played a lot more passes however. So no Longstaff isnt a player who controls the midfield. He's currently a ball winner.
Tielemans for Leicester last season was a typical attacking midfielder. He was a lot closer to making as many passes as Andreas, but he didnt. Still 4 less on average. He did however show a lot more quality going forward getting himself into dangerous positions. Andreas still played more key passes but Tielemans averaged exactly double the amount of shots per game with 2.4 to Andreas' 1.2 so no surprise he scored 3 goals instead of Andreas' 1. But when it comes to distance covered I doubt he's up there. And he wasnt a good ball winner for Leicester last season, even though he has been a decent ball winner at his previous clubs.
Longstaff is more defensive than Andreas. And Tielemans is more offensive than Andreas. Andreas was more of a hybrid of the two roles and hes obviously older, but with Ole's focus on fitness, pressing and putting in the running Andreas is still very likely to be given chances. And hopefully he'll help control the midfield better, I do agree with that.
But just because we are linked with other players doesnt mean they are automatically better at it. Longstaff isnt and Tielemans might be able to but didnt last season and you'd lose half the defensive work of the other players. He's more of Pogba's role at Leicester
That's not entirely true @Ekeke Tielemans was playing alongside Ndidi for many games before Choudhury was introduced to the team. The Pogba role was occupied by Maddison for the most part. Tielemans has not been an AM for Leicester, he's played a normal CM position.
I was mainly referring to when Leicester play with 2 AMs and in terms of how much defensive work he's doing, little like Pogba.
In his first match against Spurs he was in a normal CM role, in line with fullbacks pushing forward and not clearly Leicester's 4th most advanced player - He's 5th or 6th here behind the wide players :

But 2nd match against Palace and he's 4th most advanced player :
Tielemans and Maddison both playing about as far forward as one another
Against Brighton again he was just in front of the halfway line so a normal CM role
Against Watford he's a a yard or two behind where Pogba normally plays while Maddison is right up with the forwards :
Against Fulham he's exactly where Pogba is usually but on the left hand side. Once again Maddison is further forward but he's the main central support to the striker and closer to part of the attack. On this occasion he's 5th furthest forward.
Against Burnley Tielemans actually plays deeper than the halfway line with Ndidi, pretty much the Ander DM role near Matic.
Against Bournemouth he's again close to the Pogba position. But he's 5th furthest forward instead of 4th
Against Huddersfield he was just in the opposition's half so a normal CM role
Against Newcastle and West Ham its about the same.
Then against Arsenal he's 1 of the 3 most advanced players
Against City, 4th most advanced player
And then Chelsea he's 4th most advanced player again
So yes, he played a higher percentage of his matches in a normal CM role games than Pogba

I think the bold bit might be a fallacy due to underestimating the difference between the teams they play in. Newcastle under Benitez do not try to control the games with the ball. It is also worth noting that three out of the seven games he played more than 90 min he faced City, Chelsea and Tottenham.
Against Huddersfield Longstaff played 76 passes. Only the central defenders where equal. Hayden, his partner in midfield, had 41. The same was the case against Wolves, Longstaff played 51 passes. Hayden had 26. (Against Cardiff and Burnley there figures where more equal.)
And lets not forget, this is a player who is new in the Premier League.
What sort of figure are we talking for Youri? I've been thinking that Leicester would be taking us to the cleaners for him but it clicked a few weeks ago that hes a Monaco player. They would certainly not fleece us like Leicester would.

Gonna be massive interst in him, I would love him at Tottenam would be a great Dembele replacment.
Really want him at United but I agree he looks tailor made for Spurs.
