Good option instead of McTominay as long as he comes for 25m. IF Leicester ask for 40+ we should walk away

No brainer.Get it done.Should have signed him when he went to Leicester.

Never seen him have a bad game. Have to be in for him.
I'm guessing you don't watch Leicester very often !! His form has dropped off considerably this season & he has been benched a few times. Even his form for Belgium has been off this year. He is still a wonderful player & I would love him to commit to Leicester but it doesn't look too likely. Like all good players in a World Cup year he will want to play regular football & I expect him to be picky about his destination.

Odd take considering we are losing Pogba and Matic is ancient and Jesse is gone? McT is the only player certain to stay! They also are completely different players.

That is alarming if he can't even play at a high level for his move and also in a world cup year. Even Dembele is playing in the form of his life right now.

Form has been very iffy this season so I have major reservations here. My biggest concern is how much of the decline in performance is related to attitude and work ethic. It was clear coming in to the season that he was looking to secure a move and I have heard Leicester fans say on a number of occasions that he has checked out and is not really focused on his game. Whoever we sign moving forward I think we can all agree that we do not need players with a poor mentality as we have a dressing room full of them so if Youri is cut from the same cloth then it is a hard pass no matter how good he is.

I’ve changed my mind on him, he’s been shite this season and even at £25m he’s not what we need at this current time. We need a player or players to come straight in and make a difference. If we get Ten Hag then Gravenberch is also around £25m.

I watched him this season few times and he didn't perform well enough. But for 25m, that's good value for a punt in this market. He might have one poor season, but may be moving to new club will motivate him and regain his good performance back again. I would rather us focusing on signing a DM but I'm also concerned where the creativity in midfield if Bruno gets injured. For 25m, good value to add that creativity in midfield.

He doesn't get into a midfield three of between Fred, an actual defensive/holding midfielder, and Bruno....assuming Bruno occupies a central midfield role and not a forward line/false 9 in a diamond formation.

Central midfielders have to compliment each other well as a 2 or 3. And you either keep the ball and pass at a very high level a la Scholes, Carrick, etc or you are well rounded with the requisite energy and effort.

He'd be a nice part of a midfield group, though. How's his character and personality?

We need at least two midfielders(three is not too much either, but it's not realistic), so I seriously don't see any reason why wouldn't we try with him as one of the options. He is better than both Fred and Scott easily.

Better at some aspects, worse in other.

No matter the fee, do people really want another lazy, inconsistent midfielder who is poor defensively?
Let's buy more deadwood, sounds like a great idea.

I'd rather just buy Rice than 2-3 average players like Tielemans who do not fit the team.

In my opinion, people are way off the mark regarding Tielemens, lumping him with mcfred for Christ sake. Far better than them both and far better than anyone we can get at that price. The guy is an amazing midfielder. People are talking as if we are spoilt with options out there. Which other midfielder you can realistically get around 30m ? None. Only Neves I can think of who I rate but is even slower than Tielemens and abit more defensive.

Out of curiosity, if we to sign one which one you would prefer at united next season ? Tielemens or Neves ?

Neves suits the team a lot more IMO. Tielemens is difficult to fit into the side and would require an out-and-out defensive midfielder who is at the top of his game (and even then I would prefer both midfielders to be doing a good job defensively). Whereas there's an obvious position for Neves where he sits deep with Fred or Scott (or a new box-to-box midfielder) beside him.

What exactly do you see Tielemans coming into do?

The reports are Madrid see him as a Toni Kroos replacement.. our problem is we have two 8’s playing 6.

The whole point of buying him is to play next to a 6 who we will also buy.

But not every 8 can play next to a 6 in the PL or CL because your 8 has to have a high degree of defensive competency or high levels of energy to cover ground like Fred. Personally I don't see it, yes he will have a few great games but he won't be what we need, posters who likened him to Pogba are right. I'd rather we buy a 6 and try to develop Garner into the 8 that we need.

Yeah if you have a free roaming number 10. But this is where systems and balance comes into play. What do you require us to have then? Two number 6’s? How can we play good attacking football that way?

Let’s all hope we get ETH and we can stop thinking so negative when it comes to midfield partnerships.

Would you question the balance if he played for City or Pool? Arsenal even?

His defensive game is fine for what he is and Rodgers has converted him into a perfect number 8 where as he was more advanced at the beginning. He also adopts the same role for Belgium fine.

So I don’t get why people are so worried wanting Neves over him who can’t even get into his National 11 playing the pivot role.

Imagine calling Tielemans deadwood. With a good DM behind him he can be a great player. It's arguably been a disappointing season for him, it happens. Last season people on here would have paid 50m for him. He's played an insane amount of games for Leicester and Belgium in a couple of years time. Like a lot of players he hasn't looked "fresh" coming back from the EC.

At his worst, he has been so awful. But there is a lot of potential there. He is not playing in a well-coached side. Maybe someone like Ten Hag could help him reach his potential?

At the price mentioned I would be all for it. Low risk, high reward. Not a big star name either. He dont run, he dont play.

25 million for him will be a bargain for whoever gets him.

Even if he doesn't work out you'd get your money back.

Who would you like to bring in at CM and DM? Realistically available and willing to join us of course.
Clearly we should be signing Verratti, Modric, Tchouameni, De Bruyne and Kimmich duh

When we as fans turn up our noses at good signings because we believe we are better than them, it makes me think we deserve everything we get. Maybe i'd balk at 50m valuation, but he's a bargain at 25m, he's still only 24!

What is it that he brings that makes you think that?
He's press resistant, able to take the ball on the half-turn and has great passing range and distribution. If we are going to become a more possession orientated team then its absolutely vital that we get some midfielders who are more comfortable taking the ball and retaining possession. He also works much harder overall than someone like Pogba, especially in defence so its much easier to fit him into a balanced midfield setup. Now alone he won't be enough but he would make one half of a brilliant midfield setup in my opinion.

If that is the price it's hard to say it's not value but I do not see where a Tielemans works unless we do a major restructuring. I think he's a bits and pieces player, and those bits tend to be very impressive on highlights reels but there are huge portions of games where he looks absent.

At the very least I think we'd have to buy a solid defensive presence that will enable some of his attacking play. That's what he has at Leicester. Having him and Bruno floating around wouldn't be sustainable so I think we'd have to redefine his role under a new coach (maybe possible as he's talented) or address the balance in the market. Could be possible if that's his price.

Certainly one to shortlist, along with Neves I believe.

For that quoted price he would be a no brainer. Alongside a proper defensive midfielder we could have a really good midfield there. Just getting him in and playing alongside our current bunch however is unlikely to do much good.

I don't know. No one? Academy players? Undiscovered talents?

I just know that Tielemans and Rice aren't it.

You said it right there. Good.

We need better then good.

When is the last time we signed a great midfield player besides Bruno? Carrick?

I'd rather we promote youngsters then to buy mediocre players.
It's gonna go the Fred, Herrera, Kagawa way.
Labeled as not good enough.

Ok I do not disagree with any of that, hes just not really that stand out for any of it. Better than we have now, but compared to top teams hes not that good.

I understand where you are coming from. But let's say promote youngsters. Mejbri and Garner? Are they better than Fred, McTominay, Matic? Probably not at this stage of their career. Remains to be seen what their level is. All for promoting youngsters if they have good enough first team players to learn from.

Is Tielemans better than our current midfield options? Yes, he is. He is 24 years old and has years of experience at a very high level. He's played 300 games in his career, at Anderlecht, Monaco and Leicester, he's also almost at 50 caps for Belgium.

Do we have the pulling power to get the best midfielders or best youngsters in the world in? Most likely not, especially if we miss out on CL. We need to upgrade or replace 5-6 positions. We can't go out and buy 80m players for every position, so let's make smart transfers. I think Tielemans could be one. Buy a specialist DM to support him.

Is that all that is?

I don't know, i don't watch the reserves or the u-23, but for the first time after a long period, our youth team managed to get to the FA cup final.

Surely some of them could challenge.

I don't mind Tielemans, he's a good player. My only problem with that is that he's taking up spots.
Spots that might be filled with better players.

Find them. Promote them or buy them. I dont know.

Honestly think McT is a better player - way more consistent.
My wife’s side of the family are all Leicester City supporters and find it funny so many clubs would be interested in him because he’s been poor this season.
I seen a post suggesting he’s a budget Pogba….totally agree. If we bought him to build a midfield around, then this new direction is going to fail quickly.

That's true. His form has gone up and down since the EC. He was voted fans’ footballer of the year for 2021 though. He won them the FA cup last season.

People tend to forget fast :)

McTominay is a nothing footballer. Tielemans is a great player but like Leicester this season has had poor form, everyone was spunking themselves at the thought of signing him a season or two ago
