Film Your Top 5 Films of all Time

So difficult this. The best films are different to my favourite films, which as others have said, are movies we like to watch again and again.

Top 5 favourites:

Back To The Future
Dark Knight Rises
Die Hard
The Godfather
Superman The Movie

Nah, forget it. Impossible to trim it down to five now I realise Empire Strikes Back and Shawshank aren’t on there.

Rogue one is now my favourite Star Wars movie. Andor only makes it even better but Vader mowing down the rebels at the end is goosebumptown every time.

Nice list. All very rewatchable. :) especially the Back to the Future trilogy.

Terminator 2.
Jurassic Park.
Big Lebowski.
Goodfellas.
Pulp Fiction.

Honourable mentions.
Se7en.
Fight Club.
Godfather 2.
The Matrix.

I recently watched the Aliens Directors Cut and I was taken back by how poor the cinematography and the lighting of certain scenes was.
It was startlingly to see how cheap it looked at times.

Also, I strongly prefer the theatrical cut.
Much tighter, the pacing is better and, because of that, you get a greater sense of the urgency and tension.

And the sentry gun scene just lessons the threat of the Xeno. They're like cannon fodder.

Totally agree. Sometimes stuff stays on the cutting room floor for a reason.

I used to hold Aliens up as almost as good as the first when I was younger but it has dated a bit now and sits more comfortably with the rest of the 80’s action films rather than its predecessor. Almost like the two films were made by different directors.

Hmm tough one.

1) Gladiator
2) Django unchained
3) Casino Royale
4) Avatar
5) Shutter Island

Feel like I’m missing some obvious ones that I like. Many of the classics I can’t stand to be honest.

Top movies

Gladiator
American Psycho
Wolf of wall st
Dark Knight
The Matrix

Other top movies with the starred interchangeable in my top 5 depending on mood.

Revanant
Lock Stock
City of God*
Karate Kid
Shawn of the Dead*
Memento*
Django Unchained
Pulp Fiction*
Inglorious Basterds
Blood Diamond
Pursuit of Happiness
Bad Boys 2
Rush Hour
Inception
Kill Bill
Joker
Empire Strikes Back
Back to the Future
Return of the King
Infinity War
Spider-Man 2

No Country for Old Men
The Fellowship of the Ring
Mulholland Drive
In the Mood For Love
Once Upon A Time In The West

Probably something like that right now. With stuff like 12 Angry Men, Heat and lately Drive My Car right behind.

As I've recently posted on the 21st century Best Picture thread, I haven't been a big film buff until the last few years. Always watched more TV shows than films. But I've been catching up on a lot of films over the last couple of years, and there were others that I've always loved, so for now I'd probably go as a Top 5...

The Fugitive (1993)
Sneakers (1992)
Catch Me If You Can (2002)
Big (1988)
The Firm (1993)

Plenty of other thrillers, comedies and rom-coms from that similar era (1980's to early 2000's) would make a longer list of a Top 10 or 20.

Forrest Gump
About time
Gigantic (1999)
Big Fish
Cinema Paradiso

Those are movies that made me think about life, my relationships and decisions I have made or had to make in my life and had an impact on me as a person.

For purely entertainment and well-made movies maybe something like this:

The Goldfather I
Fight Club
Heat
The Game
Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri

But there are many more of those, many listed already, and I might choose differently on another day.

Interesting list, never heard of those four before. Thanks for the recommendation.

Good thing you quoted me, I put Afterlife where I meant to put About Time. While I found After Life to be a great TV series, the movie Afterlife seems to be a horror movie starring Liam Neeson…

edit: There also seems to be two versions of Gigantic. I’m referring to the 1999 one.

Re-watched the Dark Knight trilogy in 4k and it's just brilliant. The Batman Begins was a really good portrayal to introduce the series, think it's somewhat underrated among the three installments.

Actually, the 2009 Gigantic actually has a very interesting, life-changing plot as well:

When a mattress salesman feels overshadowed by his successful siblings, he plans to adopt a Chinese baby to find a purpose in life. But he soon falls in love with the quirky daughter of a customer

Damn. I was planning on watching Afterlife with Liam Neeson and Christina Ricci <3 tonight.
:(

Weird how people underrate comedy movies. I forgot also to put it on my list. Tropic Thunder. That is comedy masterpiece.
"I am dude playing a dude disguised as another dude". Legendary.
