i knew i might get some sort of that response.
allow me to explain.
i don't like rugby because it's too fecking violent. they tackle each other ruthlessly and there's no protection on 'em at all.. NFL has more tactics involved too IMO and although it takes 3 hours to finish a game i enjoy seeing what their coaches have in store for their opponents. The quarterback plays provide this game the difference IMO. He's like a playmaker in football and his drive gets his team the win..
Personally i think Rugby is an extremely babaric game and i don't really enjoy. I do like Jonah Lomu though - he seemed to have been one that used the most brain on the pitch.. and i used to watch everytime New Zealand played Australia when he was still highly regarded.. he suddenly became a flop and i lost all my interest in the sport.
Golf is a nice an easy sunday sport.. i tend to enjoy the atmosphere of the game much more than how the individuals perform on a match day or how the table finishes at the end of the 4 days.
I like all motor sports, but F1 happens to be my favourite.

Rugby union, contrary to what you think, is a true gentleman's game. You're not supposed to hurt the other person you know, that's why high tackles are banned.
It's like most sports, you never know what its really like till you play it. Rugby may look rough and violent, but it really is a lot of fun. Unless of course you play touch rugby, which is for women and poofs.

High tackles are banned in rugby league as well which I think is a far better sport because it's more exciting to watch because there isn't as much kicking and more try's are scored in league.

Kicking is a great skill to watch IMO I can never find rugby league very interesting myself.

i take your points - and agree with it to some extent.
from my point of view, the main objective is to score tries - not to injure other players. so naturally i find NFL much more fun since it involves much more tactics and complications.
i do watch rugby sometimes when there's nothing on TV.. and even without the high tackles i still find it rather brutal. I have boxing as my favourite sports for that kind of action. If they wanna kill each other it should be legal and not through cheating their ways to it - i don't think that's a gentleman's game at all.

Do you mean "innebandy"?
Anyways, I like many sports but noone as much as football. As for playing innebandy or floorball as it's called is great fun (if you change the rules a bit so it's more hockey-like). I also like racket sports like badminton, table-tennis and squash. I love to play volleyball (indoor or outdoor) but it's not often I get the chance. I did play hockey for many years but haven't played once since I gave it up.
As for watching hockey is number two. Then, depending on what's on and how I'm feeling I might watch anything, esp. during the olympics.

Rugby League for me as well. In fact, it would actually be my #1 sport with football a close second.
Much better than that crappy union game, I can't watch it without comparing it to league and it loses out all the time. I mean, do they realise that you actually get more points for a try? The way they kick for goal anytime they get within 50 metres of it you wouldn't think so. League is more exciting, more skillful (both attack and defence), and a much better spectator sport.

In South Africa, there was a saying amongst the white population during the years of Apartheid that Rugby was a barbaric game played by gentleman and football was a gentle game played by barbarians(because football was played mainly by Africans). What a shallow, racist assumption. Rugby is a barbaric sport played by barbarians and it seems all very senseless to me.

That was a racist sentiment, not true of the game in general.
Doesn't detract from the fact though, that rugby played properly is beautiful to behold. You don't make high tackles, you don't gouge your opponent, you don't do anything except tackle him below the waist if you want to stop him.
But you're right. Rugby union is played by the Barbarians.
