Pogba has done absolutely nothing this season to warrant inclusion in an EPL team of the year. Pure bias.

Vertonghen's barely been better than Sanchez let alone been Spurs' best player. Against Liverpool? Did you just miss his dreadful "tackle" on Salah's last minute goal? Basically the only defending he had to do in that half. Shocking.

Overrated player. Always has been.

Ah yeah, he got dribbled that one time by the best dribbler in the league, must be crap. Lets ignore the opinions of fans who watch him week in week out and use your 1 match assesment instead.

I’m doing it in true PFA TOTY 442 style.

De Gea
Walker Otamendi Vertonghen Masuaku
Salah De Bruyne Fernandinho Sterling
Kane Aguero

You are embarrassing yourself here with this nonsense.

Alderweireld? He has 10 appearences this season. And Firmino has never even played in a midfield three.

De Gea
Walker Otamendi Vertonghen Delph
Fernandinho

The team picks itself. You could argue Aguero but Kane has been slightly better. You can't put both in because then you have to drop one of the midfielders and that would be unfair. I'm surprised at the lack of Delph in these lineups. He has been outstanding in a position completely new for him. Alonso has been shocking this season apart from freekicks so I'm not sure what people have have seen in him.

Agree on Delph. He's been outstanding.

Yeah but Alderweireld has been class whenever he has played, and other than that I'm struggling to find anyone with the consistency required that really deserves the slot :)

I've held for a long time that Firmino would be brilliant as a deep #10 or advanced #8, and that's where he is in my team. And who said you have to play players you choose in any fixed position ? Are there rules I didn't see ? I note that other selections have Pogba / Azpil / Sterling and others all chosen in positions they've played in rarely, if at all, this season.

Third in the league in assists

Also Firmino playing as striker averages 108 mins per goal or assist, Pogba playing as CM in midfield 2 averages 114 mins per G+A.

It's flawed way but to claim Pogba has done nothing and accusing poster of bias and then somehow shoehorning Firmino for the sake of it was hilarious.

Ah ha ! I knew there had to be a reason other than bias. But how come Sane isn't in the team then - since he has one more than Pogba ? Or does Pogba's 9 assists mean he's had a better season than Eriksen and Silva, who he ousts in that selection ? Maybe there should be a place for Mkhitaryan too since he only has one assist less than Pogba ?

Jones has played 21 games and maintained clean sheets in 13 of those, how come he wasn't selected in your team? He has more cleansheets than Toby's games played.

Otamendia has 11 in 26 games.

By your logic Jones should be in every team.

Also Pogba is a CM playing as CM, others play as attacking mids and attackers. There is a big difference.

Hardly. SInce most people agree Firmino is having an absolutely brilliant season and most United fans on RC seem to be less than enamoured with Pogba's season - regardless of where the blame for that lies (Mourinho playing him out of position being the #1 reason). And not shoe-horned in, if you bother to search my posts you'l find I suggested that as an alternative when Coutinho departed - I still like the idea.

You liking the idea doesn't make Firmino as a midfielder. Also before Spurs game Pogba was the GOAT at redcafe, it's all about how last few weeks went. See for example Eriksen and Dembele started to appear in so many teams now when Dembele has started just 14 games and had a quiet season.

Not really because I didn't base my team on stats - you and someone else above are the ones trying to use them as arbiters for selection. Defence is mainly a collective and also (as in all cases) based on a style of play (hence why United's negative approach enhances their defenders' stats) so if we are only using clean sheets to decide on selection then personal choice goes out the window and stats alone should decide who makes the team .. which obviously it doesn't.

Where did Firmino play in Germany ? Case closed.

Like defense, attack is also collective effort which means all out attacking teams like Liverpool players will have much better stats.

Well it all started with your "wrong" post that Pogba has done absolutely nothing when he was having very good season and 2 bad games started to cloud people's judgement.

 Hopefully you are not serious and posting this just for the sake of it.

Firmino having good season as striker won't make him better midfielder just because he played as AM in Germany. It's just that you want to include as many Liverpool players as possible.

If that is what you see I suggest you take a moment and consider Firmino's all round play. Because it then makes your first sentence rather ludicrous.

Interestingly a quick check through the thread sees Pogba with ONE first team selection and Firmino with three (not that they are related - just for interest). Doesn't exactly strengthen your case does it.

I haven't said one should be nominated or shouldn't, just your reasons.

Also like I said which you ignored, recent games play a big role in these.

Again it's stupid (not calling you stupid btw) to put Firmino in the midfield, it's like putting Rooney in the midfield because he wasn't the best striker in the league. Firmino played as #9 (bit withdrawn role) and that won't make him a midfielder.

More of a creative second striker. He was more Baggio than Zidane
I can see him playing virtually as Coutinho did e.g. :

Mane ......... Striker ........... Salah

................ Firmino

...... X ....................... X

He may not get as many goals but it really plays to his strengths. Creativity, stamina, strength on the ball, technical ability and willingness to chase down every lost cause.

Anyway we are going way off the thread theme here so we can take it to the Firmino thread if you wish to continue.

No, i'm not that arsed anyways. It will end up in circles when we talk about hypothetical situations.

In my opinion, Sane has been better than anyone else in his position (including Sterling, and yes, Hazard).

I agree. Hard to leave out Firmino and Aguero given the numbers they've got and the way both have been playing. But the three below are untouchable. They've been consistent throughout the season.

---Salah----------Sane---
-----------Kane-----------

Team of the Year is usually lined up as a 442 formation,
so i'll do that even if I set one of the midfielders as a designated holding midfielder.
* de Bruyne would be my pick for Player of the Year.

de Gea
Walker
- Otamendi - Vertonghen - Delph
Fernandinho
Salah
- de Bruyne* - Sane
Kane
- Aguero

Ederson
Valencia - Mee - Christensen - Alonso
Doucoure
Silva - Pogba - Sterling
Vardy - Firmino
