You want a great striker, who is willing to come despite being cup-tied?

And if the board refuse to shell out on Gudjohnsen?

I don't see a great difference between the two players if Rebrov could recapture his form and at a fraction of the cost, he may be a more likely option for the board. And yes, a link player is what we need, with Ruud and Ole leading the line and Forlan being moulded into a striker we have sufficient cover provided they receive the supply.

I don't think the board would hold back the purse strings next summer if we really went for Eidur, perhaps for this Jan transfer window

Gudjohnsen wouldn't cost the earth, if the rumours are true. Certainly Chelsea can't afford to turn down a big offer, thoug no doubt they'd prefer to offload JFH.
Rebrov would be a good buy, but he'd have to be the 4th striker. With RVN injured, Rebrov and Solskjaer doen't striker me as a particularly dangerous partnership. Gudjohnsen and Solskjaer do.
And why all this crap about how United "need" a link striker? Giggs, Scholes, Veron and Beckham are a pretty impressive creative force, and they don't really need another passer to crowd the pitch. Someone like Gudjohnsen is creative enough.

EG doesn't have the pace that we need up front as he is an out and out striker whereas Rebrov plays the link role which is what SAF doesnt have at the moment. Plus our hand will be strengthened with Rebrov if we decide to bid for Shevchenko.

Are you from outer space? OGS scored a good goal on Saturday and that's what he does. I'm saying his link-up and control are poor.

musteve - did you see his control on sat vs. newc. on the first goal he was amazing! and on the 5th he took a high ball off his chest on the go and didn't stop till he finished! he's got a few a nice assists on goals since his move to the rwg - so that's not linking up or distributing?

And last year against Charlton, Derby, and previous year against Ipswich, his control was awesome.

And that's just the games I can remember.

Don't think I deserved the comment about outer space from manusteve, but there won't be a retraction.. :)

Vassell or Beattie.....everyone else is cup-tied.....robbie keane would be nice..

We should just get any available quality striker with the future in mind.

Ok, I'm going to be showing my Aussie bias here and ask what you think of Harry Kewell? He is being used more and more often as a link-up striker at Leeds, and with their current financial difficulties we may be able to 'convince' them to sell him.

He's fast, a real hassle for defenders, can create a lot of chances for his partner up front, and finishes off any chances that show themselves to him (although he's missed a few easy shots this year). And with talk about a feud with Viduka, he could be looking for a new chance at a big club. He would also give us some great cover for Giggsy, with a long-term view of him taking that left mid spot once Giggs does retire.

Obviously Leeds wouldn't want to sell us their two best players in a space of a couple of months, but if we offer enought we might be able to convince them.

I don't think anybody would write against that from a Manchester United point of view. Kewell is supremely gifted. If it is possible to have Leeds let him off the hook to come to 'US', then to go for it is the only right thing to do. Leeds are a team in disarray and Kewell would love to play for a team like us. But then, the 'if' I mentioned is surely, very very big...

jardel?

getting on a bit and wouldn't be more than a stop-gap but i'd love to see him in a more competitive league
