You are a right soft lot, look:

Exactly..

Its not a case of "sacrifice" a season so that OG and O'Shea can develop into a decent CB partnership...

You're looking to challange for honours home and in Europe so you need excellent players..will O'Shea become one? Who knows...
Will OG? I doubt it..</strong><hr></blockquote>

Right. If scarfice one season can "gurantee" future success, everyone will agree to scrafice now. But in this world there is nothing as "gurantee success". That's why we must continue to strengthen our squad every season.

And this is the same for the scousers. I'm happy you don't sign a world class playmaker, whom you should need most if you want to go up a level to challenge for the title. Bowyer is just another version of Gerrard or Murphy. He won't give anything new to you. ;)

You're just as bad as Kemo for transfer-loving, you know that? I nominate you next week ;) </strong><hr></blockquote>

Blythy, don't know about Kemo, but I just see the need we have of signing 1 or 2 new defenders.

It doesn't take Einstein to work out that the defence was the problem last season when we dropped from winning the league in record time to 3rd place behind the boring Scousers.

We have to sign a couple of defenders and I simply want to see the best playing for United.

I'd be equally happy seeing Nesta as our centre back when we win the CL as seeing Brown, and I honestly think that with Nesta (or Ferdinand) on board, it's a lot more likely to happen.

Also, we CAN afford it, so spend big and make the rest of Europe take notice.

Ok, not in midfield, but in defence!

I'm talking Brown and O'Shea.

Was quite comfortable with O'Shea in there last season and felt he was the solution to our defence as he looked so comfortable playing there, it was a shame he got injured - but thats football, but had he not got injured, would Blanc have signed a new year deal?

But I have to agree with Weaste - O'shea is a good player, well worthy of a spot in the team

Well, O'shea is definitely a very good player. But only watching him played TWO full league matches for us last season (against the mighty West Ham and Derby), is it really enough to say he is our solution in defence? I like what I see in the matches he played and certainly hope I can see him more in the next season, but I won't gamble on him to rescue our long lying defence problem immediately.

Rio is only starting to become a very very very good player because he plays week in week out for years. If Brown and O'Shea had that opportuinty, they would both end up better than Rio Ferdinand IMO. But, they have never had that chance.

It's the same as Beckham, Giggs, Scholes, Butt, Nevs, etc. If you don't play you can't improve.

Give them a go I say, and lets see.

Many people complain about our youth system not producing new players. Well it does, but they never get the chance to play and get sold off. Look a Chadwick for example. He'll never improve unless he plays week in week out. But at his current level he will never play instead of Beckham will he? And he can't improve unless he plays instead of Beckham.

When Beckham first played it was because there was nobody else at the time.

Now, we have no CBs - same situation. Give them a go an lets see what happens. I'm 100% sure that they will not disappiont.

Give them a go, and IF they don't make the grade, we'd have messed up our season, now that's not exactly very clever, is it?
