I assume the Gears 5 I download from game pass will automatically be the upgraded series x version?

Also does it matter than I never played part 4?

Trying Gears 5. Colour me impressed, blown away for the first time.

Speaking of colour, what the feck have they done to this series? It's not supposed to be beautiful, it's supposed look like a burnt out bbq.

Gears is stunning! I played the multiplayer at 120fps too which to someone who was so smooth.

Game is great return to form. I still think it needs a rest now before a reboot of sorts, but both single and multiplayer are so impressive.

Horizon 4 is also stunning and at 60fps too which is lots better.

Yes

Not at all to be honest. They follow but you don't play Gears for the story anymore. They even start with a 'previously on Gears' at the beginning to.

Quick Resume is awesome. Been super impressed with that feature.

What's everyone's thoughts on the new controller? Am a fan. Nothing revolutionary, but just nice little improvements all over. You can tell they've taken what they learnt from the elite and added it here.

Said it earlier but I think it's flawless. Best controller to have come with a console in my opinion.

Maybe that changes tomorrow.

Am I right in thinking the smoking issue is fake? I saw that vid earlier on twitter and it looked like a 3d printed shell with vape going through it, am I right?

Even it was real I would not worry about it. Unless, of course, it becomes widespread.

I've never really used much of an XBox before so I'm mightily impressed by the speeds on display here. Quick Resume and game loading times are brilliant.

Controller shocked me with the trigger specific rumbles and feel. Clearly as a pc player for last decade I'm out of the loop! It was really finessed though, and the thin sticks far smaller than I remember with the 360? Beautiful to hold and very impressed so far.

Agreed! One of my biggest Xbox apprehension was the size of the controllers as it always feels larger than the PS ones but this one is a beauty. Also love the texturized feel.

Yeah that's a nice effect

Been playing AC for a few hours now. The box itself is barely warm at the top. It’s ice cold at the bottom. Can feel the heat being pumped out if you put your face over the top. It’s deathly quiet too. Some feat.

I put my ear right above the vent and I still really couldn't hear anything.

The size still blows me away tbh. I know it has more volume than the One X, and might even be bigger in dimension (can’t really be arsed to check), but it just feels smaller. Possibly because it’s standing, but yet, it’s so slick and as much as I’m looking forward to PS5 it’s going to looking fecking horrid next to it

Really impressed with this box so far - it’s not like it’s revolutionary or anything but it’s the quality of life stuff... it’s so damn fast at doing everything and it makes virtually no noise. I thought it was making some noise earlier and I realised it was the external hard drive I had plugged in to it to transfer my old games!

The controller is a nice upgrade too - again, not a revolution but an evolution of what we know and love. It feels a bit sturdier and the grippy texture is great along with the new D pad and better rubber on the sticks.

Only managed to fire up some Witcher 3 and Doom Eternal but they were slick. I was especially impressed with how easy it was to drop in to Witcher especially because anyone that has spent time with that game will know that loading times are a substantial barrier. Not anymore! From clicking on the game to playing I reckon it was about 30 seconds, not even factoring in quick resume!

Yeah I really like the look of it. Also very surprised by the size. It definitely feels a lot smaller than my og One.

I really rate the look but you have to be able to have it standing.

The Xbox One was so chunky and obviously had the power brick too which made it even worse.

The original xbox one from 2013 had the power brick. The one s and one x had it built in and we're great looking consoles. Gotta agree about the size and look of the series x. It's a great looking thing.

Sorry I meant Xbox One!!

One X looked fantastic, great form.

Must admit, not a fan at all of the UI. Its just very cluttered and not always easy to find stuff.

Very much a first world problem.

Apart from that seems great, nearly filled the storage already with stuff from Gamepass.

The UI is awful. It's not even it's own identity, having to half use the MS store (the worst storefront in gaming) this gen is ridiculous.

Also, the amount of button presses needed for the most simplistic of things...

It's what happens when you just dump on top year after year without a major rebuild. It's the windows effect.

It was my biggest disappointment when I picked up an Xbox a couple of years ago. Was fecking horrible to use and navigate and as Lambs says the things that should have been simple to do weren't.

You'll be surprised to hear I like the UI.

It use to suck. But it's now time tested, robust and with the X it's so snappy (definitely makes a big difference - cause even with the new dash that'd be my criticism, it is sluggish on the old consoles)

I don't know how anybody who gamed online a lot preferred the PS4 UI and claims it was easier. There was no real guide in game without going to dash, and getting a friend into a party chat (the thing I'd do every time I go on pretty much) was always difficult. You couldn't do it whilst loading a game which was the perfect time.

For me it's really easy to find everything I need. Maybe I'm use to it.

What specifically is difficult to find or many button presses?

Games and apps, friends, party chat, are all 2-3 buttons away at any point.

The old store was awful but the new store is really strong.

You can even customize the home page and the guide to your liking to make the things that matter to you as accessible as possible.

The UI is greatly improved. It was horrendous about 2 years ago - slow and cumbersome with that shitty tile effect Microsoft had for Windows laptop/desktop machines. the Home pages was a mix of everything, community updates and friend shares - it was like they tried to do a social media scrolling type thing mixed with tiles. Now it is more concise and has clear paths to these now, rather than clogging up everything like before.

Got the texture pack for cod now, which looks very nice. I can’t see the option for performance mode or anything though? Is that update not out yet or is it fixed to 4k60?

Agreed, it’s fine. A little bit too Microsoft looking for my taste, but it works fine. The biggest issue was it being sluggish, like you say, which deffo isn’t a problem now.

Only thing I don’t like is finding the party that you’re in, since the update. Also hate the long press to join one. Feels mushy. I’ve not tried that yet on the new console though, so might be more responsive now.

@Alock1

Project has nothing to do with the studios they bought as Xbox game publishing is a separate entity to the studios they bought or have.

Interesting as that tends to be 2nd party right? And even if it was Bethesda / Starfield and agreed before the acquisition I'd expect they would still be publishing it as Bethessda/Zenimax.
