Ok, I really wanted a PS3, but I just can't ignore that this 360 Arcade version is nearly 3 times cheaper. All I essentially am after is something to play Pro Evo on, and the odd other game from time to time - I'm not bothered about playing on the internet and downloading to hard drive

On the Arcade you get 256MB storage space. How far does this stretch for saving games? On PES, you typically need space to store settings, a master league, and then maybe a couple of other competitions as well. And obviously if I had other games, I'd want to use storage space for them

Bascially, my question is does the Arcade Xbox cater to my needs?

I would think games saves would use up 256mb pretty quickly. Why not spend £40 more, and get a 60gb hdd XB360?

Soogy is incorrect, the 256mb is in the form of a memory card and will store loads. You can get extra cheaply too.

He is correct though about getting a hdd version for the extra money if you have it.

Its not 40 more over here. 1490 Kroner gets me an Arcade, 2200 gets me a 60GB Premium. In British pounds thats about £120 and £180 respectively. If the Arcade does the job, I'd rather save the £60 frankly

256mb should be good for just saving games for a while but your allmost gauranteed to run out of space i reckon depending on how much you save.

For todays games having 256mb space is feck all howandever if your just looking for a 360 to play just Pro Evo you should be ok with it.

Can you just hook up another drive to the 360?

Its a shame you aren't in the UK anymore...

The future of Xbox 360 is orange - Sainsbury's starts selling the Xbox 360 Arcade for £99

That's £99 for a console that's had its price slashed to £129 a couple of weeks ago anyway. Aren't things in shops supposed to be getting MORE expensive?

As well as reducing the "entry level" non-hard drive Xbox 360 Arcade to £99 as from today as part of its pre-Christmas price warring, Sainsbury's is also going against retail recommendations and selling the regular 60GB Xbox 360 for £139 - a huge £30 less than its supposed RRP of £169.

AND! Why not impulse buy a present for your grandma and younger sister while you're at it, as the supermarket giant has generously SLASHED the price of a Wii to £149. The deals are not available via its online home delivery system, so don't waste your time signing up to check. Get in the car and DRIVE.

Looks like loads of people are getting them so stock must be low.

The start of some Christmas price wars though maybe... Tesco are also selling Fifa 09 for £30 and Asda for £32.

Good times.

It's totally spastic, and you know it.

You can buy a 500GB HDD for 100 quid or so to stick in a PS3, and you had the cheek to talk about a 20 quid game being a rip off.

Out of context Weaste my old mucker.

You could do well writing a story about Joe Kinnear, or a script for Eastenders, such is your ability to twist real life things and make them silly.

And you know it.

Has anyone got the Arcade version? Or does anyone know precisely how much space their PES save game takes up?

I've got an Arcade version and my memory card has saved every single game I own on my profile. That's 30 odd games, including some intensive ones like Forza2.

So see my previous post, and ignore Mr.Miserable.

fecking charity case?

No, phone contract.

One way or another I end up owning all the consoles. Since I use them purely for games and none of the other shit, I don't bother with the crap that comes with these latest consoles and their versions.

The very fact there's different versions of the same console says all you need to know about the direction they are heading in.

I was considering getting a 360 solely for a few games and the marketplace (Arcade games). I saw this Arcade version, but the 256mb struck me as awfully little. I won't be getting a lot of games or videos or whatnot for it (I'm a PC geek first and foremost), but I can't see 256mb holding for long either way.

Though I'm not sure if I could get online with a 360. I rent from the student organization, and I get free uberinternet from the University, but I have to change a couple of network settings to be allowed to connect with my PC. Don't know how it would work with a console.

Redlambs, is it possible to buy say another 256mb memory card, if I just go over my save limit, for relatively cheap?

I think I'm decided, if you think I can save a few games on there, I'll just go for the Arcade version then

This is what I'm wondering too. I'm mostly a PC gamer, but I'd like to get the 360 for a few games (FIFA 2009 among them), and some arcade games. I'm not going to download a whole lot of extra content. So does anyone know if the Arcade will be enough for that, or alternatively if I can cheaply get a little more space?

If you're going to be downloading off the XBLA I'd imagine 256mb will not fit many games on at all.

Like someone else mentioned though best to spend an extra £40 and get the 60GB model.

It's a bit of a slippery slope, as the 120GB model costs only slightly more than the 60GB costs more than Arcade :nervous:

But I'll consider it.

Done my research. You can buy memory cards, 512MB costs around £25-£30. But you can buy 64MB cards too, for less than a tenner. Which reassures me if they're selling something like that, save games can't actually take up that much space

So my minds made up, I'm gunna go for the Arcade console. And I just found a place where I can get Forza 2, new, for £12. So I'm in a happy place right now! :D

Pro Evo better be worth all this hassle...

If I get it, and it's looking like I might want to, then I'll probably get the 60GB. Not sure I can afford the Elite, since I also have to get a new monitor. Thinking about a 22'' one that I can use for both the computer and the 360.

avoid the arcade, always buy the best version you can afford of whatever it is you are buying, you'll regret it later

I am annoyed that I thought £300 was not worth having 2 extra hdmi ports on my tv, wish I could go back to that day.

What's this hdmi business then? I'm not sure my TV can even plug into the 360, so I'm getting a new monitor that I'll use for that and my PC, I just want to make sure I get one I can actually use.

it is High Definition Multimedia Interface

basically it can carry a HD signal of up to 1600p and your audio signal all in one little port.

Dont worry if you havent got a HDMI port on your tv, the xbox comes with a scart block, and a component cable

they look like this

hdmi-connector-diagram.gif

some people will try and tell you you need one with gold connectors and fancy wire, but Gadget Show diud a comparison with a 99p cable and a couple of others one costing over £100 and they could see no difference at all

So I can use it on my old-ish TV? It's not super old, I can connect my cousins PS2 to it, but this is Microsoft we're talking about. I'm surprised they haven't released the "Xbox 360 exclusive Microsoft TV".

Guess this means I don't really have to get a new monitor, if I don't find the one I wanted.

Cheers! :)

if your TV has a scart socket you will be fine

how old are you talking? I bought a TV when I was 18 that had 2 scart sockets on it, and that was a long long long time ago

I don't know, but it's pretty big for it's size, if you know what I mean. I checked, and it's got a scart socket. That's all it's got, though :P

if you already connect other devices to that port, you may want to invest in a scart splitter, so you dont have get round the back of the tv everytime you want to play a game

Nah, there's nothing else. Well, there's the PS2, but we only play GH3 and Tekken 5 on it, and rarely these days. Also, I'm a student, so a computer and a TV that has an on button is pretty much as good as it's going to get (and then the 360, of course).

Which is why it's a rip off. Go to play.com and you'll find 4GB "standard" memory cards for under a tenner.

I went on and all I can find are the official memory cards?

I've often used unofficial in the past for Playstation. That's actually the greatest thing they did to piss me off actually, releasing a verions of PES where you could only save game if you bought their official memory card. What a load of bullshit. That was my PS2, dunno if they ever pulled a similar stunt since

I think what weaste was saying is you can get a 4 gig memory card that is not for an xbox for under a tenner, but ms decide to charge 30 for something 1 eighth of the size

Sorry, I wasn't talking about 3rd party versions of the card, but your bog-standard cards you put in your camera etc. Microsoft could have produced a simple adapter that allowed you to stick any card you wanted into it, but just like the hard drive, oh no, you have to have one of their proprietary units.

Ah I understand. Well yes it is Microsoft after all. The only reason I've bought the console today is the price, pure and simple. Eventually I'll get a PS3, but at just over a ton, to cater for all I currently need it for, it'll do nicely

If I have a bit more cash in future, I can always trade up for the relevant parts. I think I worked out by the time I've spent money on a hard drive and HD cable (is that all you'd need?) it's about the same price as the 60GB model anyway over here

Do these things have to be stored on the official memory thingy? Can't you do it to a USB stick or an external USB HDD, or even use a USB card reader?

Sony do not let you store actual games on anything other than the PS3s own internal HDD, but you can download them to up to 5 different machines with your account active on them. All your other data can be backed up onto whatever.

It turns out the memory card they give you has more than ample space to save games on, for my needs anyway

Incidently, what a pile of crap these 'arcade' games are!!! Fireworks game has some charm to it mind. I've ordered Forza 2, and will buy Pro Evo on release day. Will it be some horrid Swedish commentary version, or does all of Europe get the same exact game?

...

Get Fifa instead.

(Not going into all that but..)

For cheap games just log onto ebay or something at like midnight, always good games for for cheaper than anywhere else you can get them.
