Looking to modify my xbox 360 (soft or hard). Can anyone help me out? Need a detailed walkthrough.

First, find out what dvd drive you have. Some are easier to mod than others and there's no point you barking up the wrong tree looking at a different drive.

I used JungleFlasher with a connectivity kit and probe on my liteon drive. Piece of piss. Done a couple of others since too.

Well it's a Lite-On DVD Drive. Can't remember the exact model though I'm going to open it again and check.

Do you need a connectivity kit? What does it do that is essential?

It's a 74850c model Lite-On drive

I'd love the instructions given to me really slowly and clearly :)

It's a new project. Seriously bored recently, and I reckon if I can play backups on the console then that's the icing on the cake :D

Ya I heard, I don't play Live very often. Besides it's a total sham, paying for broadband and then a subscription. Then I'd need a wireless receiver to play downstairs.

feck that

Id love some help form somebody

Trying to connect my dvd drive to my PCs motherboard but its not detecting the drive. I have it connected via SATA but i had to leave the Xbox power the drive because its got a custom power connector

There are tutorials/forums over at Xbox-scene.com. You'll have better luck trying asking there.

What software are you using to mod it? Your drive is the same as mine. What SATA chipset are you using? What are you using to power the dvd drive? Last thing, what are you using to get the key off the drive?

I modded my PS2. I had over 300 games.

This might sounds amazing, but i wasted some of the best PS2 games available just because i had so many to play. It's a bad idea.

If you have access to every game you could imagine for said console, then you don't respect a game as much as it shoud be.

One of my biggest regrets is never finishing MGS3 because i had so many new games i wanted to play. I couldn't get back to it afterwards. FF12 i loved as far as i got, but i didnt finish because i had another 3 or 4 new games to play. It was horrible, and is why i rejected the chance of having my 360 modded.

Plus the banning from Live thing as Weaste said.

That's a bit crazy. Just because you mod your 360 doesn't mean you have to download every game going. Is there something stopping people just downloading 1 game, completing it, and then getting another?

But thats the thing, a game loses its value. You don't have to download every game going, but if you're in doubt about a game or not enjoying it you probably wont continue playing it because you didn't pay for it and/or you can just get the next big game that's released for nothing.

I agree 100%. I value so much more games that I buy than games I download. I had the chip on my PSOne to play pirated games and bought quite a few... Didn't enjoy that period of gaming half as much as the pre-chip period.

I think (could be looking at the wrong thing) the chipset is Intel 945G Express

I downloaded the Jungleflasher but the drive isn't showing up. Powering the drive through the console. Tried the tray half open thing but nothing happened. I haven't got to dumping the key yet as I can't even get the PC to detect the drive :(

Not sure then. I specifically bought a via 6421 sata pci card from ebay for a fiver to connect the dvd to my motherboard and a connectivity kit to power the drive and a probe to get the key.

Im pretty sure I'm connecting it wrong, but I'll order that from eBay for the sake of it and just keep researching until I can afford a connectivity kit. Because o read the JungleFlasher tutorial and the 7 series Lite-On need extra hardware whereas 8 and 9 don't

Poxy drive

Where you get yours?

And why did you need the PCI card? I have SATA ports on my motherboard. What does the card offer that is useful?

My chipset has:

PCI Express I/O port
Serial ATA 3.0 Gbps

What significance does this have towards flashing the Lite-On?

I may be in possession of a dodgy xbox. I don't have the problem that Woodzy does. In fact I do what RonaldoVII said, and just get 1 at a time. Its quite a simple method really.

I didn't have a SATA port on my pc (as I use laptop and pc is ~6 years old or so) so I just bought the one that everyone was recommending to ensure that it worked.

I got my kit and probe (Xecuter CK3 Lite + CK3 Probe No Solder Addon (Bundle Offer)) from ck3.co.uk for £25.60 delivered.

My chipset has:

PCI Express I/O port
Serial ATA 3.0 Gbps

No idea.

What the feck is this, video game piracy central?

Would it be better if we changed the thread title to "Express your utter disgust at the latest xbox 360 modding method"? :smirk:

;)

I'm guessing everything on your computer is 100% legal then.

It is, but then I'm a software developer myself, so I have a slight bias towards people ripping me off.

Why start bringing the morals into this thread when there is that one running strong?

I think that I've made three posts in that thread, all against game piracy.

I modded my PS2 with DMS2 and it didn't turn on again... will never mod my PS3...

Oh, and I have to say I regret modding my 360, not because I got banned from XBox live, because it turned me into a cheap bastard and I felt guilty playing copied games.
And, as stated already in this thread, you never get to appreciate a game because you have so many waiting to be played.

I've just stuck it in the kids bedroom and I have a new elite now, un modded of course.

Which Xecuter kit would be better, Lite or Pro??

I'll be getting that PCI card as I know my chipset isn't compatible with the LiteOn. I found a converter for the power connector too. The DVD drives power cable is custom on the xbox so it's hard to find, but the one I found adapts it to molex. Or does the connectivity kit have something to power the drive?

I assume this modding is the "Chip" you could get for the PS1?

How does it work etc do you buy chipped games or download them?

It's not a chip, it's done through a software update, but yeh, it does the same thing.

You download them, but you can also play legit bought games.
