X Factor US 2011

It's Josh vs. Melanie vs. Drew

Drew will win.

Josh has the most talent, he's actually a very good musician if you listen to his original stuff.

IMHO they should have a do your own material week. That would really sort the wheat from the chaff. Covers every week is starting to get boring.

That is what we basically have TBH. Astro and Chris always find a way to sing hiphop/rap style, Drew is doing the same thing each week as well. Actually I am a Drew fan but she is getting very boring doing exactly the same thing every week.

Could be wrong but I think he means they should have a week where all the artists do a piece of their own work. Something they wrote themselves.

That result was ridiculous, the judges have lost the plot.

How could they save Lakoda Rayne after that sing off? And what the hell was Nicole on about - 'I am about female empowerment'? Using that as part of a reason to make a decision is completely wrong.

Only last week Simon said that the Stereo Hogzz were the best band in the world, tactical voting all the way.

Stereo Hoggs may be the most band over rated band in the world. Best , you are having a laugh.

Honestly I dont see anything special.

That would be a retarded idea seeing as some of them are not writers, in fact most of them aren't.

True, it wouldn't work just throwing that in this year with the current contestants, since most of them entered solely because they have strong vocals. But it could make it interesting if they set that up for the next season, letting everyone know when they start advertising the auditions, that one of the live shows will be based on songwriting. Might change the crowd it attracts, and start seeing actual talented musicians entering the show, and less of the crap we've seen in the past who, once the show ends, release an album of cover tracks, then disappear.

I think with the viewing figures of both the American and British versions apparently being on a downward slope, it is important they do something to change it up soon. This would at least add some credibility.

Its the first season on the US show.

Its the first season on the US show.

Aren't the figures significantly lower than those they used to get for American Idol though? I thought I'd read that somewhere. Just that I would have expected them to be the same, since it's basically the same show, with Simon on the judging panel as well.

Jay-z should sign astro immediately. He is better than 99% of mainstream rappers out there. He does however need a quiet word, he is young and for all his maturity and intelligence beyond his years its easy to forget he is only just 15, he needs to show some humility and respect, his tantrum was too self indulged and im sure LA will make him realize the error of his ways.

Correct.

Not so. OK, if they can't do a piece of their own music (which they should be able to considering they are looking for a 5mil recording contract) then at least do a week of original music either written by them or someone else. They have to prove that they can do their own stuff otherwise it's pointless them being there at all. No-one makes a career anymore from doing covers. Even Westlife had a few of their own songs at the start.

No-one makes a career anymore from doing covers.

A lot of very successful performers over the years had a writer or teams of writers creating 'their' music. Where would Elton John have been without Bernie Taupin. You don't even have to write music to have a successful career.

Pretty high standard from the final nine, and two go home. Hope Astro is in the bottom three just so we can see a tantrum.

The missus is watching this on repeat at the moment, I've never seen it before, I think it might be the single cheesiest television production in history.

One singer finished her song and spent what felt like 20 minutes crying and blubbering about how hard she's had it and how she loves her mum and grandparents, then the judges all gave her little speech a standing ovation, then Nicole Shirtswinger asked if she could give her a hug and everyone cheered while people in the crowd wept.

What. The. feck?!!

She's a superb singer though but I do think she went a bit overboard I must admit. I love Josh's voice the most

She hasn't been a drama queen in the past. Maybe she was just carrying a lot of emotional bagged because of the long separation from her parents and she lost control in the heat of the moment.

Melanie was amazing this week, and she is looking better every week as well.

In these kinds of competitions, they should really avoid doing Michael Jackson songs imo...if they try and copy how Mike did it - they won't do well. If they try their own take on it - the original was way better.

Just how I feel

Melanie at the end stood out last night, the rest weren't that great at all imo

Melanie is the one who did Earth Song, I think/hope
