Thats game over for Australia.
I really really like your sentiment but it would be a totally different kettle of fish..
I speak from experience with this as a women myself who was very good at football and never had the opportunity to even dream of being a pro. I played in boys teams until I was 16 and then various decent women’s teams. I’d have to travel over a hour to get the first good team I could play for. The only professional team in the country when I played was arsenal women and even they were semi pro. They had other jobs to pay the bills. Football wasn’t an option for me, not even a dream.. so to see these girls play at world cups and get paid to do so, is amazing. Very emotional actually. Women’s football has grown beyond belief, it’s staggering really. Everywhere you go you see little girls in footie kits and it lights me up every time. I was always alone in this.
But the reality is the mens game is light years ahead. Of course it is.. how could it not be? The level of everything is light years ahead. They have had generations of playing football, the best investment, exposure. Men and women also have totally different body strength and power etc, which is why men should get compared to men and women to women, it’s all relative.
the womens game will truly stand in its own when people stop comparing them. Even if the men’s team would beat the women’s team 30-0 like I’m told regularly, there’s multiple reasons for this and it’s the reason why men play against men and women play women. How good is the level going to be in 20 years time if it keeps growing and getting the increased investment it is now? It’s going to get better.
There’s nothing wrong with saying that managing the men’s team would be a step up because it would. On every level.. but what’s more impressive to me is that a WOMAN could really manage one of the best teams in the world and go toe to toe with the world elite. Now that’s progress.
Interesting read. Thanks for that.I really really like your sentiment but it would be a totally different kettle of fish..

I’d definitely want to see Wiegman given a chance with a men’s national team at some point. Obviously men’s football is very different but much of her approach to tournament football should still apply ie letting each player in the squad know their role, having contingency plans and not being afraid to execute them (an area where Southgate clearly fails).Interesting read. Thanks for that.
On the Wiegman thing. I'm glad she's enjoying her job. I doubt that she'd enjoy managing the England men's team as much. The British press isn't grown up enough to talk about football and they'd be looking for a bad headline continually.
That said, one day I think we'll see it happen - though I doubt it'll be England who do it first.
I dont think they are.To what extent (if at all) are Spain and England evenly matched?
Anyways back to the World Cup. Really interesting to see what they do with Lauren James for the final
Right decision to go with Toone but she needs to step up as, that goal aside, she's not done enough this tournament
Can't wait to see how Sarina sets us up - sit back and hit them on the counter seems the obviously way to deal with the Spanish
Hell yes!!Please God can we see England win a World Cup in my lifetime.
Yes, really annoying. Stupid FIFA.Not a fan of that countdown they do before kick-off. Would annoy me even more if I was a player waiting to start the match.
I'm watching on iplayer, I can hear the Spanish commentatorCommentator has a frog in her throat.
It’s been awesome, the crowds have been great, it’s a shame the aussies couldn’t make it to the final. Lots of really good games. It’s a shame it’s over in a few hours. one day maybe we can do a combined men’s WC@Stack It's great to have a FIFA World Cup Final at senior level in our timezone.
