WWC23 | England v Spain - Spain win the World Cup - and Rubiales gets sacked

I’m going to miss this wc when it’s all over, been a great tournament

Indeed it has. Euros were great but this tournament has brought women’s football another step forward. Size of the crowds, plenty of surprises etc.

Gutted but the better side won. The team that looked better coached won. Cruel as this sounds, I hope this hurts and hurts bad for the Matildas. They may never get a better opportunity to win a World Cup and they saved their worst til the semi final.

Well done ladies! Twas a good game as well. Bit gutted for Australia but it’s about time we beat them at something

This is really impressive by England. Building momentum in just the right way. They handle injuries and suspensions, do exactly enough and a convincing away win in the semi final. Having beaten Ireland, Canada, Denmark and France, full of confidence and motivation, Australia was well beaten in their own back yard.

Good to see a beautiful Toone-goal and a match winning save by Mary Earps at 2-1. This is going to be a really interesting final between England and Spain.

They need to continue to build on this. They've had a wonderful tournament. Kerr will be around for at least another World Cup. It's hopefully inspired a whole new generation of little girls. Governing bodies in Australia need to capitalise on this team's performances.

Toone deserves to keep her spot in the final. It's great to have James back but she should start on the bench and come on if needed.

Honestly as an England fan this was a great draw for us. Australia were the hosts but for a World Cup semifinal England couldn’t have wished for a better draw. Was annoyed when we gave the lead away but overall there was a clear gap between the teams

Saturday evening took too much out of the Matildas physically and emotionally. They just seemed flat. The crowd were flat for a sell out too.

How good is the England manager though
You could make the case that she’s the best ever at tournament football - women’s or men’s - after reaching four finals with two different countries. If she wins the World Cup with England you’ve got to think she’ll get offers to manage a men’s team somewhere.

Bit too warm and fuzzy on channel 7 ( the free to air broadcaster in Australia) about the Matildas in the post game.

So I just read Ella Toone is the first ever player, man or woman, to score in a quarter, semi and final of major tournaments.
Jairzinho scored in every game Brazil played in the 1970 World Cup so that's not right.

I would honestly give Sarina Wiegman a shot at the Mens England job if she wins this world cup and Southgate flops at the next tournament.

Good win for England. Final is going to be a hard match.

I was at last year's Euros QF and it really could have gone either way. Spain are a tough, tough opponent. Toone has done a great job since coming back into the team.
