WSL 24/25 | United v Arsenal - 12:30 on Sun 3 Nov

The bad thing about this (if we can hold on) is that Skinner will feel vindicated.

It’s been an awful performance from us but the ref hasn’t helped things. Given Arsenal absolutely everything

He'll feel vindicated even if he loses though. He either feels let down or like the players are going through a learning experience.

Yeah I know. Wonder how many years it’ll take until we’ve learned enough to be able to compete in these games.

But he’ll make it out like this is a win and proof that he’s doing a fine job.

I’ve made a lot of jokes about the obligatory Williams sub, but you can’t fault her. Gives her all and is one of the very few players in our squad who refuse to be intimidated.

One of the most undeserved points I can remember us taking. Well done subs!

I would make a lot of changes for the Villa game. We’ll probably see one or two.

It’s crazy that Arsenal took their foot off the gas when they were just 1-0 up. Threw the win away. They could even have lost it in the end.

Game over 1-1

United lucky that didn't turn embarrassing. Williams/Malard and the other subs delivered.

Phallon Tullis-Joyce is a really great addition to the team.

We played well for the first ten minutes. We did a decent job once we switched to throwing everything at them.

Great attitude from the team, but we look a long way from being a strong team.

Reminds me of the same fixture last season with Arsenal playing a lot better but only coming away with a draw (also featuring a Malard goal in the last ten minutes). A probably necessary reality check in case they were getting carried away by the "unbeaten!" talk after about 5 games.

McCabe is invisible to referees. Especially McCabe on a yellow.

McCabe should have had at least double if not triple of yellow cards she has in her WSL career, I have never seen a player get let off the hook by refs all the time.

Phew! That could’ve gotten really ugly in the second half but we somehow come away with a point. Biggest positive being that we’re still ahead of Arsenal with a game in hand. I thought we were just about fine in the first half. But then we reverted to our usual awfulness in big games, and Terland was left chasing shadows. On the plus side, the subs had a big impact. Malard and Williams were great, and I love watching Geyse play. Think all three should be considered for the starting XI against Villa.

Well, somehow we got something out of that. Obviously I am pleased, but we were outthought, outfought and outplayed.

Defensively we were solid, but everything else until Skinner's trademark too-late substitutions was a shambles. Naalsund, Toone, even Clinton were so wasteful and Terland had no service whatsoever.

Geyse, Malard and Williams changed things, with creativity, aggression and drive. It still baffles me why we had to wait until 70+ minutes for the changes. Oh, and McCabe should have been off.

We have an excellent squad of players who could be really be pushing for the title - certainly a CL place - but I'm not convinced that we have the leadership to get us there.

I don’t think we do. We’re miles behind Chelsea and City, Arsenal too. Clinton and maybe MLT are probably our only players who might start for our rivals at the moment. Even they might be rotation options.

We made one sub at HT and two on the hour mark.

... and Geyse and Williams at 77 minutes.

I stand by what I said - we have the players.

Okay, let’s play. Which of our players do you think would make it to the Chelsea XI? City? Arsenal?

Misread you then, thought you said we had to wait until 70+ minutes for the changes.

He says the same things every year, after every shite performance in a big match.

Got away with one there.
Created nothing through midfield. Lateral and backward passes.
Hence lumping long to Terland.
She needs more service to see the best of her.
Needs a rethink because we are too defensive.
Really think DJ should be played in the back line. Need more creative players in midfield.
Still unbeaten. Move on.

I'll play ...

I don't think it's as simple as that because it implies that a certain United player is fundamentally better than an opposition player in a specific position. However, I do believe that MLT, Clinton, Toone and even PTJ would not weaken any of the top three teams. Possibly Turner, Terland and Galton too.

Turner or Millie Bright? Terland or Bunny Shaw? Now it becomes more problematic. Chelsea, Arsenal and City are better teams, no doubt, but for me that is down to the management, coaching, formations, style rather than the individual players.

Hm. I think we are some way behind still, but it’s difficult to say player by player. But I think we should definitely be able to play a more even game with Arsenal at this point, that is not well enough in terms of getting the most out of the players.

Interesting to see Ashworth there today so wonder what he made of it, definitely felt that same old type of performance we see when playing the big 3. Facing Chelsea for most of the league must feel like playing the computer on Expert mode.
