WSL 23/24 | United v Chelsea at OT - 3pm Sat 18 May

Just been doing some browsing on bluemoon. Most of the posters there refer to your team as the 'ragettes'

The women's team following the example set by the men.

Win a cup, get absolutely tanked a week later

Cmon ladies. You don't want City to be winning the title. Gifting us 6 goals would be the right thing to do.

You’re welcome.

Congrats on the title. Not bothered at all about Chelsea winning over City but it feels almost embarrassing parading the FA Cup around the pitch after our worst ever defeat.

Oh well, on to next season.

Can we go back on Skinner’s contract?
Maybe this is one way we can use the top brass' apathy in our favour, in that they don't know he's signed a new one and just sack him anyway.

Will be interesting to hear Skinner’s comments after this, that’s if I’m arsed enough to listen. He will take 0% responsibility for the performance.
There might be other quotes but this is all I can find right now, and... yes.

edit - twitter links getting Musk'd.

Skinner:
"We fell away short of our best today. You need to be at your best to beat Chelsea anyway. We fell way short in our individual dueling. I felt that they were physically more dominant than us. Barring tactically putting three or four players on Ramírez which would've opened up other spaces we have to win our individual duels. It's nothing to do with their professionalism, they didn't take it lightly. They had everything to fight for, Chelsea, and we just couldn't match that physicality. You know, sometimes you lose the game on physicality still in the women's game.

"Leah [Galton] sustained an ankle injury in that game [the final]. She'll be out for a few months while we obviously [will] assess it. It's actually in a positive place on the level and spectrum of it but yeah she'll miss out up until probably pre-season and then hopefully we'll get her back for the start of the season.

"We love them [the fans]. I know we've not produced for them today, we haven't. And we wanted to but we've produced the first trophy of what we hope is many, in the future. Even their voices at the end, real supporters support the team forever and we have real supporters. I'm sorry for today but we love them, we'll make sure and I'll make sure we'll die trying to deliver trophies like that for them for many years to come."

I've heard so many managers take at least some of the blame even when it's obviously been the players who have fell short. Nothing like that from Skinner.

And then the "real supporters" shit. All of our fans will support the team forever, a lot of us just feel he's not the manager to take us forward. He continued the sentence: ”We have real supporters in our”… He was probably going to say fanbase but then realised that he was about to say that not all of our fans are what he would call real fans. After a 0-6 defeat at home.

More from Skinner:
THE GAP TO THE TOP

"No, I don't think it [the result] reflects the gap. I think it reflects the gap in the game, for sure, but apart from that; the counter-attacks were aggressive. They were physical. We knew that was going to happen. And then you get hurt on that. So you've got to defend those physicalities. But yeah, I mean, apart from that, I don't think that we're a six-nil away from Chelsea. I don't think that at all. But we do need to continue to develop the depth of our squad in order to compete."

A TOUGH MOMENT

"It feels like [the lowest moment] in the moment, right, but I think it's part and parcel of a team that are trying to develop. We're unfolding in front of your eyes. We have to grow, and we have to try things where you have to recruit more players, and you have to continue to grow so quickly, that where do you get your consistency? Over the past few years, we've had to keep evolving the squad, and we've got to get to a point where that is minimal, I think, minimal disruption."

Regarding the bolded parts, piss off.

We're not 6-0 behind them, just 20 points and 43 in goal difference.

Indeed. Six behind Liverpool and 15 away from a CL spot.
So what is his excuse, injuries? Nope not that. He has a quality squad. Yet he wants even more, except we will likely lose more of our best players. Can only see the squad weakening with a weak manager.

Yep. If the results don’t go your way, try something else. I don’t know, maybe give your experienced World Cup winner a chance. Sick of his excuses.

Chelsea fantastic today.
United truly awful. Humbling.
We're a mid table side.
Look good v lower sides. Nowhere near Arsenal, City or Chelsea.
25 000 scratching their heads today. Not good but we're loyal.
The likes of Hinata just won't improve us IMO.
Keep Garcia FFS.

Especially embarrassing because it was OT but I didn't even watch as was half expecting something like this

Meant so much for them with Hayes last game and WSL on the line, more or less a dead rubber for us after putting everything into last weekend

They have cute names for us and Arsenal too.
Ragetttes lie down at the Swamp 0-6 after beating Chavettes in cup semi, Arsewipettes win a cup then pull their tripe out to beat us at the death, Chavettes rack up 14-0 in last two games. Laughable and taking the piss
Does it sound a little like a carve up of trophies to stop us winning one?

How imaginative

Congrats on the title, hard to feel good after a deserved thrashing, even with women’s team, but I hate City a lot more so silver linings I guess.

So are Spurs but they only lost by one to them. Embarrassing result, almost like Skinner wanted to personally pay tribute to Hayes.

Kind of funny that he's talking about knowing where we fall short and reflections.

Must be honest, this is not a great look. If the men’s side did it, they’d be abused left, right and centre.

It's their end of term party. No formal bash on Monday - that got cancelled without them being notified, never mind consulted.

Some of the players have just played (or not played) their last match for United.

I can't begrudge them their party. Might have been more tactful to keep it off social media, but I can't really say it bothers me.

Yeah it’s the posting on social media that is the problem with me. Speaks volumes that not one other player did it. Just a misjudgement in my opinion.

You’d think they had partied enough this week but it’s understandable, as you said some of them are leaving etc.

6-0 at home, what on earth happened? At least it stopped City winning the title though.
Chelsea are good, they were up for it and United weren't. Started with mostly the same team that played in the FA Cup final, and the hangover seemed real - nothing to play for anymore.

Somehow trying to make himself look good after getting beaten 6-0 at Old Trafford.

”If you know anything about me, I’ve had a hard season. A hard, hard season.

”There’s been lots and lots I’ve had to deal with, but I’ve stood up every time. And I will stand up every time. And I will make sure that I get this team to where I want them to be, whether it kills me or not. I will get them where I want them to be.

”We ask for the emotions of managers, well actually sometimes you can’t show it. But today I can show it. And for me it’s that drive and ambition that I have personally to get this team and these fans where I want them to be. Which is winning titles, and that is my drive and it’s something that will not stop.”

Me/I: 16
Them: 4
We: 0

What a way to emphasize that team spirit and togetherness.

It's somewhat sickening. I understand that firing him after the FA Cup win might've seemed hard, but I hope we go for someone new during next season. I suggested in another thread to try for Martin Ho after the Norwegian season is over in October/November, he's been doing some good stuff there. I don't know whether he'd be the best candidate, but he worked under Stoney and presents himself a whole lot better than Skinner does.

Disastrous end to a very poor campaign. 18 wins last year. 10 this year. Goal difference dropped from 44 to 10. So many more goals conceded.
This is the result, and let's face it, a few others against the top 3 that the management need to ponder over the summer. Even Bristol C at home was a struggle.
