WSL 22/23 | random chat on us and our rivals

Doesn`t look good, can`t see Chelsea dropping points here
Got an alert Chelsea scored
Didn't realise it was to equalise

Still, 30 mins to go right now which you would think is enough time for them to win it

Not surprising. Think it's the arsenal game really

That’s a shame. Long way to go though!

Edit: in the season

Shame that Liverpool couldn't hang on but it felt like Chelsea would find a goal eventually. The only crumb of comfort is that Chelsea didn't make major inroads into the goal difference, they have nice fixtures left apart from Arsenal but if they draw that and United win out then them only winning narrowly tonight might be crucial (albeit they are rightly still favourites).

Frustrating - I didn't see the match but I had an eye on the goals. Liverpool so close to doing us a favour there.

We've got to play Liverpool on the last day of the season though - so it's also a reminder not to think of them as a walkover.

They won't hammer Everton I don't think (defensive record is best of the rest)... Leicester maybe, but 10 goals in two games is a big swing.

So yeah, narrow scoreline tonight definitely good thing.

An arsenal win would be a good thing right? As it keeps them much interested esp with them facing Chelsea in a few weeks

Depends what you want. If Arsenal fail to win tonight, our qualification for CL is pretty much secured. That'd be huge, the first time in our young history. But sure in terms of title charge I guess you're right.

All irrelevant though as they'll beat Leicester by at least three goals.

I think this close to the end of the season, the title makes sense , cl qualification will come with the push for the title

Yeah you're probably right. Just can't see us beating City and Arsenal taking something from Chelsea.

Nah me neither

Then again for CL qualification we need six points from our last two games if we can keep our goal difference superior to Arsenal's. And they're the only one that can help us win it so maybe it's better that they are still fighting for something when they meet Chelsea as @Sylar said. At least there's a theoretical chance so that is what we need to cling on to.

I mean I agree
It will be the hope that kills, but to be in this position is amazing.
The last three games (cup then city then Liverpool) will be quite something

Absolutely.

And whatever happens, at least I have to remind myself during those crucial heated moments that I would’ve taken a CL spot + FA Cup final before the season started.

I think the team has done so well and given the fans the right to dream, but Chelsea has been in these run-ins so many times that I just can’t see them stumbling (and yes I know it was kind of close yesterday).

Yeah their experience of this will be the difference

Liverpool beat City 2-1 meaning barring a huge 17-goal swing in the 2 games we have qualified for the CL. Let's hope we can finish out the WSL season with 2 wins and see where it takes us and who knows what could happen in the Cup final

We've done it! The first goal of the season accomplished. To break that strong top three is not an easy feat.

Two very difficult games remaining. City want to bounce back and fight for that CL spot, while Liverpool already almost did it against Chelsea and today got the jackpot against City.

It's good to see some of the teams outside the old top three (Chelsea, Arsenal and City) performing well and pushing those teams now. I appreciate that both Chelsea and Arsenal have players missing, but I'm hopeful that the WSL will become as competitive as the EPL in time.
Apart from ourselves getting into the mix for Champions League, Liverpool, Everton and definitely Aston Villa have become more difficult to play against, and Villa, especially, could be a force to be reckoned with next season.
From a purely selfish point of view, I would love to see Rachel Daly up front for us if Russo does decide to move on.
Just as a interest, does anyone know the budgets that the WSL teams have this season?

The more competitive the league becomes, the better - definitely. I have a fear that Villa's best players get moves elsewhere as it usually happens in this league and they won't reach the heights of this season next year. I really hope I'm wrong.

I'm not sure on exact numbers but City publish theirs and in 2020/21 their wage bill was around £3.3m. I think ours is somewhere in the region on £1.5m.

Kirsty Hanson currently joint top for assists on 9 with Ona Battle, Guro Reiten and Chloe Kelly. Kirsty also has 5 goals so far. Her pass completion is up on her terrible stats when at United but still way below similar players.

I barely noticed Amy Turner playing for Spurs today. There was one moment the camera showed her in close up.

I can see several good players from outside the top three teams may fancy their chances at Champions League, so could be up for a move, but for women's football sake I hope that most players will stay with their clubs, and give it a real go next season.
If United make top three, which looks likely, then I wonder if City, or Arsenal (I expect Chelsea to finish in top three), whoever doesn't make it, will revaluate the women's team?

That certainly is a lot bigger than United's budget, so if things are similar now, then a huge well done to Mark Skinner, his staff and the girls on and of the pitch.

Yeah I agree with that, but I can't fault the players themselves if they jump ship to have a chance to earn more. I know you didn't claim that either but just saying, as that contributes a lot to the weaker sides losing their best players almost every summer.

I don't think us making the top three will have any major ramifications regarding the one who's left out. If anything they'll probably invest more to make sure the same doesn't happen again next season. If it's Arsenal who finishes fourth it's not even that. They'll know that losing five players through ACL injuries was the decisive factor and it won't likely happen again.
