WSL 2024/25 | GW18 - 30 March

We've all got used to seeing the always green PL pitches. This one doesn't look bad for a traditional grass pitch in the middle of winter. Funny how this one looks like the odd one out now. It looks great compared to a lot of EFL grounds of course

FT Chelsea win 2-1

These two meet again midweek in the WCL QF
And again next Sunday in WSL.
And then again the following Thursday in the return leg of their WCL knockout match.

Four times in 12 days.

Yeah I hear you, just expected better for a final.

It’s a schedule to be honest. Who wants to play the same team 4 times in 2 weeks. It’s almost like a mini NBA playoff series. It will be interesting how both teams adjust to each other from game to game. I’m sure City will win at least one of this games.

You're lucky. I remember a phase when United kept playing Wolves. Ok, I admit it wasn't actually four times in a couple weeks - but that Wolves team made going to OT feel like I'd been sent to do an extra shift for no pay.

You're right about the pitch of course. Not really the right look for a Final. It just made me reminiscence about neutral grounds for FACup semi finals and how Wembley used to look like some kind of amazing perfect green manicured lawn if you got there. Nostalgia attack...

Matches today and tomorrow. City play Chelsea for the third time in a week. They'll pay them again (in the WCL) on Thursday night.

And how the league looks. Palace no longer looking like certainties to go down.

United losing to Liverpool last week has created the annoying situation that I'm hoping Chelsea win this one.

This was never going to be a good weekend for United. I usually enter the weekend hoping Chelsea, Arsenal, City and Liverpool all lose. But when they are playing each other that's difficult.

Saturday matches then:
Everton 3-0 Palace
Arsenal 4-0 Liverpool

So, on the bright side - Liverpool lost.
On the downside Arsenal won and topped up their GD.

City and Chelsea will be another good game. 3rd out of 4 consecutive games in a row.

Ye but a city win and if we win against Villa then we’re still 4 above them and like 5 behind Chelsea.

I wish YouTube broadcasted some 3pm prem games each week like they broadcast the woman’s games.

I’d gladly take a 4-0 loss here in exchange for a 4-0 win on Thursday.

It was like they got hypnotised by Kerolin. Slow motion football.

Wow. Bad decision from the ref to blow that rather than wait for advantage. Should have been 2

Ref plays advantage. City annoyed. Understandably. Could have been 2-0

Indeed. Why not wait for two seconds. Then again Hampton didn’t even try to save it as she heard the whistle.

True but she didn’t try to save there first goal either. Just stood there so I think it’s a goal even without the whistle.

Silly error from an experienced ref.

Mind you, no surprise to any United fan:

City’s first half dominance where they should have been a couple up comes to nothing as Chelsea dominate second half

Beautiful second half. I love Cuthbert. She just personifies everything I love about Chelsea.

Chelsea win 2-1 which is good news for United but also annoying. I'd just accepted the draw as a decent result when Chelsea scored.

Sunday's matches:
West Ham 2-0
City 1-2 Chelsea
Leicester 3-2 Brighton
Villa 0-4 United

Villa and Palace are now in a scrap to avoid relegation. Villa looked like a team with no confidence at the end of yesterday's defeat. Palace lost against Everton on Saturday but may be feeling better about their chances of survival.

United's lead over City goes back to 7 points which is a relief given our run-in ends in us playing Chelsea, City and Arsenal.

Think you win both to be fair.

I don't think we beat City by more than 2 goals. Games between us are alright tight affairs. Huge pressure on the upcoming game. I don't see us keeping a clean sheet against them, sadly.

All the matches are on Sunday this week. Next week is the international break. One trophy already decided - Chelsea won the WSL Cup and it looks like they're on an extended lap of honour in the League now. They're in the semifinals of WFA Cup and WCL.

Which means the run-in is all about the rest of the places.

Villa have the easier looking run-in so Palace have a mountain to climb to avoid going straight back down.

Meanwhile, the top two are expected to qualify directly for the group stage of next season's WCL Third place should go into the playoffs. Very different run-ins and United have the toughest.

The signs continue to point to Palace going down.

There's been a minor blip on the road to the trophy presentation for Chelsea. Tiredness after WCL midweek fixtures could be a factor during the run-in, but Arsenal are still in the WCL as well so it remains hard to visualise anything other than another title for Chelsea.

Arsenal, United and City all won to continue the scrap for a WCL place. Arsenal continue to stretch their GD avantage over United. Given the significance of top 3 and the huge advantage of being top two in WCL qualification terms - it makes our loss to Liverpool all the more annoying.

Still, as the saying goes, our final position (at least between second and fourth) remains in our own hands and that's something.
