WSL 2024/25 | GW15 - 2/5 March

They were drunk, so I can forgive refusing to pay, it’s bad but in their drunken state, I can understand saying no. I also buy the claim that they were afraid as he started driving off in a direction that wasn’t their destination, though we now know the driver was taking them to the police station, but in the moment, I can see why that might feel like a scary situation. Once in police custody though, racially abusing the police officer, clear as day, caught on camera, it’s horrible behaviour.

Nah, drunkenness doesn't excuse acting like a twat. It explains it, but it doesn't buy forgiveness for it.

It's fair that they genuinely ended up scared when the doors locked, but that only happened because they were acting like twats.

I can understand their fear and even the panic about what was happening when the taxi didn't stop as planned. I can also understand why she got upset if she thought the police had ignored their phone call asking for help.

The trouble is when you're drunk and have refused to pay for a problem you created by being drunk, it's hard to be taken seriously or explain the problem coherently.

Sam's complaints made sense to her (and me for that matter) but would have just have sounded like drunken ranting to anyone else in that context. Throwing in the stupid white guy stuff made it personal.

Even so, is it good use of police and court time? I doubt it. It feels more like someone's making a statement.

It wasn't just personal, it was flat out racism.

She was drunk, and either her or her partner caused criminal damage according to the taxi driver as well as refusing to pay for the mess they had made in someone else's property.

She deserves a criminal charge for any one of those misdemeanors, feels like a good use of police and courts time to find someone guilty of racial harassment when they are on video doing just that.

He seems to be overreacting even though what she did was typical trampy drunken shit.

I'd wager he gets and hears far worse than that without him even reacting most Friday and Saturday nights.

Clearly trying to make an example of Kerr, but she dces deserve it.

She’s also a public figure, hopefully full book thrown at her.

I don’t get what white had to do with anything!!

No WSL matches this weekend because it's R16 of the WFA Cup.

Villa v Brighton looks like a pretty even matchup and Portsmouth v Sunderland guarantees that at least one Championship team will be in the QFs. Wolves and Rugby are in the Northern Premier League - that's the mostly amateur tier 3 of the women's league structure.

Matches are live on:

Not WSL related but Mapi Leon could be in trouble.

It’s unsubstantiated at the moment but I saw on a different platform that alleged that she said ‘do you have a penis’ as she touched her.

Espanyol statement

RCD Espanyol de Barcelona wish to express our complete discontent with, and condemnation of, the events that took place last Sunday, during the women's derby played at the CE Dani Jarque between RCD Espanyol and FC Barcelona. In this game, there was an action that we consider unacceptable and that should not be overlooked.

During the match, FC Barcelona player María Pilar León, whilst jostling with Daniela Caracas, made a gesture with her hand that violated the intimacy of our player. Although Caracas was unable to react at the time due to the impact of the situation, later, after assimilating what had happened, she became aware of the seriousness of the gesture, but chose not to react angrily in order to avoid a disciplinary sanction that would harm the team.

In addition to what happened on the pitch, there was a regrettable response on social media, where our player was been the target of insults from hundreds of profiles. We are concerned that, instead of focusing on the incident itself, part of the media attention has been diverted to other issues unrelated to the seriousness of the action.

At RCD Espanyol we defend our player and condemn any act that threatens the integrity of footballers on the field. We firmly believe in respect and sportsmanship as fundamental values of football, and we hope that these types of situations are treated with the seriousness they deserve. In addition, we have made the club's legal services available to our player in the event that she wish to take legal action.

Likewise, as RCD Espanyol have done on previous occasions, we would like to express our rejection of any form of violence, whether physical or verbal, in the world of football. Sport must be a space for respect and coexistence, and we condemn any attitude that encourages hatred or aggression -both on and off the pitch.

No obvious excuse there for Mapi Leon. If the contact was accidental then the words that followed (assuming the reports are accurate) are anything but.

Really disappointing behaviour. She should know better. Not sure where this will go next, hopefully the Spanish FA will take it seriously as a start. I just hope Caracas doesn't end getting abused on social media as well. These things can turn very ugly.

The words used are certainly the issue, in looking at the video of the incident the contact is fleeting and hardly anything that would justify a complaint but taken in context with what was supposedly said it becomes problematic. I was initially thinking that far worse happens all the time in the mens game without anyone carrying it on after the match but on consideration I believe this is something that could only really happen in womens football so it might be more of a sensitive issue. I guess if LBBTQ+ had been an issue 25 years ago then David Batty might have suggested Graeme Le Saux was biologically female although I doubt he could have wrapped his tiny cro magnon brain around such a concept whereas against the background of the Olympic boxing allegations this is a problem the womens game is going to have to address.

The statement from Espanyol suggests Caracas has already been the victim of abuse online. I can only imagine what her DMs look like right now .

It's Sunday and the matches are underway.

United women won 3-1 against Palace earlier in the day.

Arsenal won 5-0 against Spurs. Arsenal at the start of the season were not playing like this. The whole team looks more comfortable and more confident now.

Everton leading against Chelsea
They weren't leading for long, but against a team as strong as Chelsea, it would have been weird if they were. Teams are still drawing 1-1 at 85 minutes though - and what were the odds of that.

On the face of it, it's a week where nothing much will change in terms of League table places. For Chelsea it should confirm that they're on track to run away with the league. For United, Arsenal, City it's essentially a week for not dropping points and improving their GD - as part of their chase for top 3 and next year's WCL.

Palace and Liverpool both have new managers - so they can't both get a new manager bounce. Palace's need for points is more immediate than Liverpool's, but I doubt their problem was actually the manager.

As much as I love winning, the title race being done so early kills a lot of the interest for me.

Hopefully it’s a bit more competitive next season.

United won 2-0

Spurs - City is 1-1 at HT - would be nice if Spurs can get something there.

Chelsea have already ensured that ain’t happening

Brighton lead Chelsea 2-1 at HT. What are the odds? Well still pretty poor to be honest, but at least they'll have to work for it.

At FT
Spurs 1-2 City so reality caught up in the end.
Palace 0-1 Liverpool
Villa 0-2 Everton

Remarkably, Chelsea dropped a couple of points. They came back from 2-1 at halftime to draw 2-2, though Lauren James' equaliser might have been ruled out for offside, if VAR existed in the WSL.

Arsenal came from 2-0 behind to win 4-3

For this season, yes. Hopefully next season Arsenal and City can make it a bit more of a battle.

There's someone missing from your rivals list there but I'm definitely not taking it personally.

Gets out notebook...

Huge goal for us in the race for top 3! West Ham scored a last minute equaliser against City to make it 1-1. A well worked goal down the left too, but for us it means we're 4 points ahead of City with a game in hand.

Chelsea are currently ahead of Leicester 3-1 with a few minutes to go.

And that's how the Chelsea match ended.

Good weekend for us. City dropping points gives us a bit of breathing space. Given our season ends with matches against Chelsea, City and Arsenal - that's a welcome boost.
