Good, a big cnut of a player who desperately wants to join us is exactly what we need. If he puts on his German scoring boots this could become a great signing.
It has nothing to do with us not signing Mbappe and everything to do with us not signing any long-term striker option since Lukaku left in 2019.
Instead we've spent that time cycling between a 30 year old Ighalo, a 33 year old Cavani and a 36 year old Ronaldo on shorter term deals. And one of the consequences of failing to address that problem position in any sort of long term way is that we have once again been caught short and need to make yet another temporary signing to tide us over.
You would need to be stupid beyond belief to seriously compare that failure in squad building to Man City signing Erling Haaland and happening to drop more points than they did in their previous title winning season.
Don't fool yourself, if we had a January transfer budget we wouldn't go anywhere near him. He will score a goal here and there, but there's no way he'll be a "great signing"
Eh, I doubt ETH will hand out long term contracts to players over 30. Most of the competent clubs don't do that as a matter of principle. He'd probably take a 1 or 1+1 anyway. I think he'd come if he had to clean the toilets with his bare hands.
To be fair, we were always signing stop gaps because we were bringing in Greenwood as the long term option there. We needed goals NOW without hindering his minutes and development. No one saw Greenwoods situation coming.
If we had him in our attacking group now, we wouldn't be searching for players. (Imagine a front line of Rashford, Martial, Sancho, Greenwood, Antony, and Garnacho. WOW!)
Yeah we would have looked elsewhere there's no doubt about that,however now we are in this crap situation there is a need to get a move on with this deal. Have got a ridiculous amount of games coming up and attacking options off bench is Garnacho which is unfair pressure on the kid
Great if true. Definitely the type of player I'd want to play for us. He'd be a very good deal for us I reckon. Have some very positive feeling about this.
He'll be a backup and probably get to play only when our standard game plan doesn't work or if our first choices are unavailable. So if he scores most of the time it'd be when we absolutely need it. A winner, an equaliser. If he can contribute in only 5 goals in the prem imo it'd be a big difference between a top 4 or not.
Greenwood is only now 21 years old. Even if he hadn't gone awry there's zero guarantee he'd be ready to perform as a top class CF. Or that CF would be his best position rather than RW. Or that he wouldn't have stalled in development in the way that many other young talents do. Beyond that, Martial has done little to suggest he should ideally still be at United in favour of another quality CF signing that could have been made in that time.
If they deliberately sought short-term CF options over the last several seasons for that reason then that is also inept squad building.

It’s undoubtedly a hard deal in fairness, if besiktas have a 10m option to buy, Burnley have no recall option and we have to deal with three other parties. We struggle only dealing with one other club. He’s basically a besiktas player so I can see why it’s taking time.

Arnautovic is currently Serie A second joint top scorer with Lautaro and Mbala Nzola. The Serie A had seen better days but its still better then the Turkish league.

Arnautovic isn't a bad player, as croadyman said it's just that he's got too much of a chequered history

not the thread for it I know but you are looking at it backwards. Greenwood did nothing to suggest he was not going to be every bit a Man Utd player. The guy was superb and answered every question asked of him at all levels. Had he not have been a criminal, he would have saved us €50/60 million - no doubt about that.
