Got to admit when I saw the link to him I felt dismayed. But after reading a few articles and seeing his record everywhere except Burnley it's not as bad as I first thought.
Beggars can't really be choosers in January, especially when it isn't looking like there are funds available. An extra body over a congested fixture period, with a skillset which our squad doesn't currently possess. ETH obviously thinks he can do a specific job for us and I'll trust his judgement on the matter.
I'd rather us take a short term low risk gamble on weghorst than sign someone who isn't going to be our main forward next season that we can't offload when they aren't good enough.

It’s a bit weird we might be bringing him in, let’s be honest. However we desperately need striker depth, every time I see him he’s a right handful and we’re broke. I’m sure he wouldn’t be our first choice with unlimited budget but beggars can’t be choosers. Let’s hope he’s more successful than Ighalo.
How was Ighalo not a success? He did pretty much exactly what was hoped for and expected of him.
Weghorst would be coming in to cover cup games and European ties with a sprinkling of league games from the bench (all being well). If ETH is keen, then I'm all in.
We are creating more and more chances as the season progresses. I think any striker with right kind of mentality can do reasonably well in our system, at the very least. It will also hopefully provide much needed competition for Martial and may just kick on his season. Seems like a decent move if it happens.
This sounds like a sebastien haller sort of deal. Was absolutely pathetic at West Ham and world beater at Ajax. Let’s just hope he get a few goals and contribute to the team.
He seems like a journeyman. Would make sense to play him in the cup games so Martial and Rashford get some rotation. In terms of the rebuild, getting top four is the main target. Domestic silverware is a distant second.

I guess I don’t get it. Seems people are happy with the current situation. Obviously, if ETH had funds for a better option (and the Glazers actually wanted to win something), either loan or buy, he would do so. Agree, this is incredibly low risk, but it’s not a trophy-winning move. Hope I’m wrong.
People nagging about his (lack of) ability to score at Dyche's Burnley.. I sincerely doubt any prime 9 would thrive in that anti-football team and setup.
He's obviously got an eye for the goal, he's hard working, he's cheap and let's not forget this is his make-it-or-break-it transfer and age. I'm sure he will give it his all

I remember his debut was against us and he played pretty well.

Be nice if we could get this Weghorst deal done before Saturday but considering there is three parties involved then Palace might be more realistic target.
Wouldn't be shocked to meet them in semi finals with so little teams left now. Do you think we would fare better against them over two legs or in a one off final.

Osimhen is in a title race in Italy, vhalovic unlikely to be sold by Juve mid season, Kane will want to see what happens at the Tottenham come season end, the likes of toney and mitrovic would be too huge an outlay given the importance of their role in teams looking to survive in the Premier league.
Our hands are tied in January. I'd also argue that signing weghorst increases our chances of winning silverware this year. It will allow us to rest our better forwards in easier games to keep them fresh for the bigger games and we also have a wildcard forward who will be useful when chasing a goal (see Netherlands vs Argentina)
Ok say we had money to spend right now, who is it you would sign? Please list a few fantastic options that you’re thinking of? I personally can’t think of any “trophy winning” players who would be open to a 6 month loan, or whose clubs would be willing to let them go.
One-off is my best guess. Besides if it was like two-legged semi-finals, we would aim to draw one in order to play the 2nd leg like a final/one-off. Fergie tried to go head-on and play the Barca game against Pep and lost badly.
We had the best record against pep under Ole. The ol' counter-attacking approach.
I fear we don't have the squad depth or ETH has not widened the choices off the bench by not playing a couple more academy kids besides Garnacho and Elanga.
Feels like a house of cards at the moment with the same bunch of players starting most games. There is such a pile of matches and the travel of going up & down between Manchester to the various London-based clubs...
I noticed that Chelsea, during the months of January and Feb has got only one League match (at Liverpool) and the rest are within London and an hour plus away to Southampton.
A 30 year old striker who was loaned to a Turkish side because he wasn't good enough for Burnley.. Doesnt sound too great.
I still say it was the style of Burnley which didn't suit,I know Bundesliga goalscorers don't always translate but his record at Wolfsburg is decent.

You're terribly misinformed. His transfer to Burnley was a hail mary to try to keep them up. His condition for joining was an escape clause so he could play top flight football and not miss the world cup.

Same pattern with LvG, Jose. I think Ole might have bucked that trend a bit but I can't recall.

He only had six months at Burnley -- a January signing before they got relegated. He didn't want to play in the Championship and probably Burnley couldn't afford to keep him there at his salary. Otherwise, his record at Wolfsburg was good.

He's certainly an interesting option, but why are you struggling to to raise even a small amount of cash. I have seen FFP mentioned, but haven't you just saved a massive amount on CR7 wages? I've seen the figure of 17 million mentioned a few times.
