Wout Weghorst

Aboubakar on free, Weghorst on loan, recall Amad, release Mason, just do something ffs.

Jokes aside, never thought about him as an attacking option nor we were previously linked with him as much as we are with Depay or Felix but I love to be surprised.

Understand the hate he gets but realistically it is a very thin market we can enter given the club's situation and time of the season but he could prove a lot of us wrong. He can be really useful coming from a bench when and if we need to chase a game, he has some fire and shithousery that we all like and can be also useful in Eric Ramsey set piece routines, so why not.

Apart from adding some physical presence in the box, his work rate and play out of possession are very good. He would not set a world under fire but I believe ETH will make the best use of him, Haller also wasn't that impressive before working under him at Ajax.

The difference between having this guy in our squad for five months versus no striker is huge. I’m looking forward to him.

An absolute shithouse of a battering ram who has little ego, will do whatever it takes to win, and is fine to be an option. Allows Marcus to stay on the left and move centrally late in matches, allows Garnacho to get impactful minutes, and allows Antony and Sancho to develop slowly as needed. Martial can be babied along to accommodate his fitness.

This is filling in a gap without compromising the future. Totally fine with this.

100% agree!

I would have preferred a battering ram who was a little quicker, I.e. rather a Troy Deeney than a Peter Crouch. But Weghorst is good on the press and a pain to play against. Plus — not to be underrated — he is definitely an asset defending on set pieces.

Anti-vax dipshit. 6'6" but shite in the air, slow but weirdly good on the deck and winning the ball back.

Yeah, and his name literary translates to Vegetarian Horse from Dutch to English, so everyone who likes meat will also dislike him.

He has pretty good numbers in Bundesliga and Turkey, awful numbers in England though.

If ten Hag wants him then bring him, he's a target man something we don't currently have. He'll surely be useful in close games against low blocks.

His worst year was the year Burnley got relegated and Dyche finally got sacked. He's doing well while his fellow relegated Burnley players aren't doing so hot. One half season in England means nothing.

He's not a top player but he can be an effective player for the remainder of the season. No conflict of interest for Burnley. But could see Kompany being a tit and not approving this because it benefits United and could harm City.

I guess he's really the only half-decent option out there for a 6 month loan. He offers something new to the team, something that Felix or Depay wouldn't. So I guess I would be okay with it. I'd rather have him than Aboubakar or Morata, so if there's no other option for now, take him and lets re-evaluate our needs in the summer, maybe even with a new owner.

If we bring Felix in as well as this fella I'd not complain much, but if this is it, I'm massively disappointed. I'd rather play Joe hugill

Felix wouldn't start over Marcus and he's not an out and out CF. He's by definition a square peg, round hole player. And would be a massive overspend. Wout actually fits as a CF and the previous target man players EtH has used previously.

And you're having a laugh about Hugill....he's not even capped for England or his national team and has zero European experience. Meanwhile, Wout is an established scorer in 3 countries (Holland, Germany, Turkey) and a full international.

We need a striker but he’s nowhere near good enough is he.

If we get both Weghorst and Felix, great. Weghorst would be different option, thought he gave all kinds of troubles to Argentina on WC after coming on. Only Weghorst, that would be okay I guess but not something to celebrate.

Also, he'd be here for 5 months, not longer probably. Then we ideally find a proper solution for ST position.

From what I've was able to understand, Sesko was the more agile and quicker player but ij similar size or unit as Weghorst. And there's a trend with those 2 and Arnautović, even the rumors about Giroud.

You have to look at see what this signing is and or circumstances. We are up for sale glazers won't spend money. Weighorst won't be coming to start. He will be signing as a plan b. It's not a bad idea. How many times are you seeing us in positions for crosses but there no to cross too. Its not a bad idea.

United need a long term CF who is better and physically more reliable than Martial. We're not finding that at all during a January transfer window weeks after the World Cup. That's a decision to be made in the summer(s) to come. Cannot make rash decisions and make shortcuts.

Wout helps United get through the end of the season while keeping players at their optimal positions a la Marcus, Bruno, etc.

I can't think of any player remotely attainable that would start over an in-form Rashford. However, I can imagine Felix would start over back-to-his-old-self Martial. The key metric there is how hard he'll work off the ball. If he can't overtake Martial in that sense I'd be surprised. Not a bona fide striker, but then neither is Martial.

I'd start Felix over Martial in a heartbeat

At the moment it's Elanga coming off the bench for Martial.

Weghorst is genuinely good in the box and his pressing numbers seem very good, I think it could be a masterstroke personally.

100% agree, look, AMC is as big a weakness as striker is right now. Donny’s injury looks bad, unless you hear something else, you got to assume that it’s at least a 3-4 month thing if not worse. There is hope, have seen stuff look worse with the player coming back almost immediately — but it’s not something we can expect.

Who is our top AMC sub with Donny out? We only have Fred. And we only have 2 CMs besides the top 3.

We definitely cannot be satisfied with just getting Weghorst, we also need a AMC.

"Memphis Depay, god no" - careful what you wish for

Honestly I think he's fine to do a job 'till end of the season as a squad player/pinchitter. Someone to run around a bit in the oppo box for the last half hour and is always available.

He's not utter crap is what I'm getting at. I believe he was Bundesliga's 3rd top scorer after Lewa and Haaland 2 years ago and he doesn't seem to have declined.

Having said that, there must be at least 20 better options out there.

Anyway, considering we're falsely linked with every Dutch player, I'll take the story with a pinch of salt.

I mean if Ighalo can do a job for us then surely this guy can as well

Yeah, my thinking as well. There's still plenty of games to be played as we're still in all competitions.

Yeah, and Martial never plays 90 minutes. He have played 90 minutes twice in 18 months. Weghorst is perfect in many ways as a sub with 10 minutes to go for this team. He is a pain in the rear to play against, never gives up on his presses. He is an asset on defensive set pieces, which we need.

The Glazers tell ten Hag they're strapped for cash

I've no problem with this he seems to be the type of number nine Ten Hag likes and I trust him on that.

We don't need flashy flair players in every position. We do need a proper forward and he looks the part

As long as we sign an actual 20+ goal CF in the summer then why not. Gives us something different and ten hag may get a tune out of him.

Yes, yes, yes. We need that kind of players in the club. Someone who can lead the line when he plays. Someone that will be a good, if not great, squad player. A player with certain qualities that we don't have.

So yes.

Taking into consideration the position we find ourselves in, I'll be hapy with this if EtH and team. Are.

I think he'll be a fun player for the rest of the season.
