Some nice hold up play at times worked hard but he is clearly a stopgap and won't be here beyond the end of the season.

The likelihood is that ETH wants someone of that style, so who are we looking at as a target-man style player?

Far from good enough. Runs as if he’s underwater.

Some of these quite good shouts are just “honey moon phase” views. Martial puts in the same performance and he gets hammered.

He can touch and pass 5 yards, anything more he can’t do.

5/10, tries hard, not good enough.

Immobility killed us when we were under pressure, Garnacho should’ve been on.

Game passed him by. Literally don't remember any good moment from him. Stayed on for way too long.

I don't get it. Last game was his first so I didn't comment, but I just don't see him doing anything. If he's not holding the ball up for others what is he there for?

People who think he was shit today no absolutely nothing about number 9 hold up play.

he hasn’t been brought ito take on 3 people and ping it into the top bag.

he has been brought in to give us a central focal point via good hold up and link play.

and to make room for others via clever runs to drag players out of position.

both of which he did loads of in the first hour today.

give your heads a wobble

Why has he gone straight in as started when we had decent form going.

It's so strange.

Antony should be dropped for Garnacho.
Antony had a stinker too but he brought width and caused Arsenal to double up on him opening space. Weghorst wasn't a threat at all really, he just dropped deep and pinged a few tidy passes back and wide. The club's also just spent 80 million on Antony so I think it's best to keep the faith for now over a striker a Championship side has loaned us.

Same thing again, some tidy link up play, brings the attack forward but nothing much more.

Exactly. He was the best of our front three by a distance. I don't understand people who want him dropped....for who? They really want to play Rashford through the middle?

He is a super sub for the last 20 minutes when we push for a goal and need a body in the box. Should not start, just not good enough for that.

Think we do..RvN was the perfect 9 hold up player. Thing is, he knew how to do his main task as a striker too. Score goals.

played really well. He works extremely hard.

I like him a lot. Old school but effective

He tries hard. A very honest player. Did well at times. Alright for a 6 month stop gap. But ultimately he is a bit out of his depth.

Not sure how he can recieve any criticism, we created absolutely zero for him and what he could offer, I thought he did well. Lets not forget its his second game too..

Played better than midweek. Runs his socks off pressing. Did quite well in possession.. but for a 9 he doesnt look a goal threat so far.

I can’t see how anyone can watch him and be desperate for us to add Kane. Far more talented of course, but having a gear 1 striker up top is harmful.

It's shocking that people somehow manage to bash every game Martial has played in for years, yet I'm actually seeing some say Weghorst was decent today.

It’s the shiny new toy. He’s well below par, Martial may have a future here as rotation option, but he’s light years ahead of weghorst. People are wilfully ignoring whats happening infront of them. Martial puts in that performance - pelters. Yet, we have posters on here signing his praises, he literally has done nothing of any note - made a near post run, feck me that’s a low bar

In the last 10 minutes why not knock it long to him and see what happens? Odd that we don’t put in any crosses in when we saw this guy being The Netherlands back into the game at the World Cup doing that

Have to say I'm not impressed. Anonymous. Mind you it doesn't help that teammates aren't trying to find him with a pass. Irritating display from all our front line today save for Rashford's goal which was legit fantastic.

We don't create anything for a 9, whoever it is to be fair to him.

With what service? We had hardly any sustained pressure nor did we put any decent crosses etc into the box for him to attack.

spoken like someone who never watch RvN…

mark hughes? Yup…

Dwight Yorke? Yup….

louis Saha? Yup…

but RvN? His hold up being one of his strengths? One of our best ever strikers, but pretty bloody average at hold up.

Could have been in a few times. McTominay, Antony and Rashford all fecked up passes to him or took other options when he had made a good run.

I think he nicks enough goals to have been a worthwhile signing once his teammates get used to him.

They may have been doubling up on him but it didn't do us much good at all. Antony just seems so devoid of ideas and confidence at the moment. There was that instance when he was clear of their defence with the ball at his feet and he still managed to turn over possession easily.
We should endure with him because he obviously has talent and we paid a ton of cash for him but he needs to start improving his performances.

Would we not be better by playing 4-6-0 with Bruno as false 9? Wout won't offer much.

He just shouldn’t be starting for Manchester United. I don’t know what EtH is smoking but that was never going to work. Clearly not on the same page as the rest of the forwards either - which is understandable as he just got here, but then he shouldn’t be playing. Simple as.

Harry Kane is probably the closest to the type of striker ETH wants. It can't be just a big guy, it has to be someone who is actually good at football, all areas.

Hopefully he is a target.

Like playing with 10 men. Rather have a donkey like Darwin who at least fecking moves.

Works hard for the team. That’s all you can ask from a player. Always putting in effort. Bit odd that we aren’t crossing much to him though. I get ETH doesn’t want us to be a long ball/crossing all the time team but we can mix it up sometimes. What’s the point in having a 6ft6 striker if we ain’t gonna use his strengths.
