Changed my vote from no to yes because our situation is that desperate.

Would Rodgers want his own Backroon staff as I sincerely hope he does?

I don't understand how, suddenly, Rodgers has become the main candidate for the Man Utd job according to the media.

Even if you don't rate him Ole's history with the club gives him some kudos with the players. He can always fall back on his six Premier Leagues, including a treble, and say: 'I was there, I know how to win.' Not everyone is going to buy it, especially now given the tactical mess our team has been this season, but its something...

...What's Rodgers got?

When Ronaldo and Varane look at this guy telling them how they're going to win games is he going to be taken seriously?

IMO you cannot go from a Man Utd legend to a former Liverpool manager. First time we stumble the crowd is going to start groaning. Even if people don't complain in the ground, quite soon afterwards people are start asking: 'Why have we got an ex Scouser managing us?' The first time we get beat by Liverpool under him the Liverpool fans will all be singing: 'Brendan give us a wave' and laughing about 'Agent Brendan.'

This really hasn't been thought through.

Ole's time has come, we can all see that. However, if we're going to replace him its gotta be for someone with a big reputation. Someone the superstars will respect. Brendan isn't going to be able to handle that dressing room. Its one thing coaching young, up and comers, who the superb Leicester scouting network have found for you. Its another telling established stars that you have the answers and getting them to buy into that.

None of them will be thinking: 'Yeah, Brendan. He's going to be able to match up with Pep or Klopp.'
It's madness. We're in such a bleak position right now.

Hopefully he has loyalty to Leicester and turns us down. Do not want him anywhere near the club.

You are claiming the City board is interested in Rodgers. That is just speculation at this point.
Do a quick google and there are enough stories out there that Rodgers is on a very short list of candidates to replace Guardiola at the end of 2022-2023 season when he leaves city.

I'm not the biggest fan of rodgers, but if the journos are correct and city do really rate him highly then they are seeing something that the average fan on here isnt.

I dont think hes the long term answer for Utd, I have no idea who is, but it ain't Ole that's for sure. If Rodgers was not British would be be rated more highly? Do we hold foreign coaches in higher regard than british coaches?

Seems like the opposite of what we've been trying to achieve for 3 years under Ole.

His past doesn't endear him to the support, but he knows how to coach to a professional standard, plays somewhat attacking football and won a cup despite being heavy underdogs in the final.

He is better than Ole but I would hate to think we set our sights on Rodgers and then in the summer there are options we've missed a chance on.

Hes won league titles with Celtic and the fa cup with Leicester. Being a ex-liverpool manager should have nothing to so with it. There are managers who have coached both Madrid and Barcelona. Coached both AC Milan and Juventus as so on. Who cares? Allegri was sacked by AC and went on to be extremely successful with juventus and back for a 2nd spell. Do juventus fans care he was an ex-Milan coach? No.

Rodgers is tactically smart, and a good manager. Apparently very good on training ground with interesting training sessions. If Utd really wanted a big name they could have gone for Conte but they didnt. I think Rodgers deserves a chance if Utd cant land Eric Ten Hag or Poch.

In this case I suspect it's the opposite. The only way Brendan Rodgers lands as the top target on any elite PL side's manager list at this point is if they place more value in being British or "knowing the PL" than they should.

City have probably used their lackies in the press to put that out there, so we storm in and hire him. Thinking we've done them over like we thought we had on Fred, Sanchez and even the Maguire fee.

He won titles in a two club league when the other club were absolutely wrecked from relegation and rebuilding.
That shouldn't be factored in as any sort of pro.

Weird post when you consider that as recently as last season he won a domestic trophy, beating Tuchel in the final. The same season he beat City (5-2) and Liverpool (3-1) in the league. With a squad that probably cost about as much as the bench of those three teams.

Man, do I want to see the back of Ole as our manager, but Brendan Rodgers coming in would be a proper party pooper to the sacking of Ole. I remember feeling very confused and underwhelmed when we signed Moyes to come in after SAF. I think I'd have the same level of enthusiasm for BR.
All my wife's side of the family are from Leicester and all LCFC fans. Many of them ST holders, and her brother is absolutely 100% that there is nothing in this. The LCFC fans are laughing at us thinking he would leave them for us under the current climate anyway - I kind of agree given what he has going at LCFC and what he could be stepping into where fans clearly won't be to chipper about him arriving.

However, if the only other alternative was Southgate, I'd chip in for BR pay packet to make it happen.

For some reason I always thought Rodger’s was well over 6 foot. Didn’t realise he was so small until I saw him standing next to Solskjaer.

He wouldn't be my first choice, but he's likely to improve our football and that will be a major start. Whether it's good enough to bring us trophies, who knows. Managers can elevate themselves, or not. Klopp and Pep aren't on the shelf anyway.

Get him in, give him a 2.5-year contract. If it works, great. If it's not, it's not a disaster. You let him go and try someone else (which is what normal clubs do anyway....). I expect we'll still be in a better place with a better base.

Voted yes, but that doesn't mean I’m that enthusiastic. Him being ex-Liverpool doesn’t bother me at all, and he seems to have abandoned the David Brent impersonations long ago.

There’s absolutely no doubt that he’s a decent coach, and he’d get our shambolic rabble looking like a team in no time. Who knows, he might even get us playing attractive football.

His reputation for falling at the last hurdle is a bit of a concern, though the small squad/injuries defence has something to it.

I don’t think he’d have any difficulty working with Ed (assuming he’s going to still be the man in charge, despite becoming a “consultant“). That’s both a positive (no point in scaring the Glazers) and a negative. What we need is a new SAF who can get the Glazer’s blessing to rebuild the backroom footballing structure. I can’t see Brendan having the vision to do that; as far as I’m aware, Leicester was already a well oiled machine when he got there.

John Cross is fairly reliable isn’t he? Might be wrong.

Anyway he says Utd are considering activating a clause he has in his contract that he can go to a CL team if we get rid of Ole

Twitter in a bit of a frenzy about this at the minute. Apparently his contract allows him to leave if a CL club makes a move for him.

The Liverpool connection is a no to me. I do think he is decent at his job but the Liverpool history means I could never trust him fully

Agreed.

No matter how shite we are... he was a Liverpool manager.Just doesn't sit right.

*and a reject at that.

At least he mounted a title challenge once and with much less money. Sometimes you have to walk before you can run. I doubt he's the guy who gets us a title but he should at least let us play somewhat modern football

Daily Star....

I'd take Rodgers, he ain't my first choice, but we need someone right now. Can't afford to finish outside the top 4 and have to start again.

The Liverpool connection doesn't even remotely bother me, couldn't give a shit, he failed there, did they win anything with him in charge? He brought us plenty of laughs in his time at that club.

The fact I truly don't believe in him to bring the big trophies back to this club is the quite obvious issue. I just don't believe in him to do it.

Rivalry in football is dead these days. It’s too corporate. Benitez to Everton etc…

The only advantage I see here is that he actually plays a 4-2-3-1 and we won't need to go find new wing backs to get things to work.

Still, hard to imagine hoofing the ball into the channels for Ronaldo and hoping something sticks.

Why would they not go for fecking Conte if they decide they needed to sack Ole now? Clearly there aren't any good caretakers / permanent manager appointments you can do mid season.
