Just wanted to gauge thoughts on this. Obviously Rice was pretty invisible and pointless for pretty much the entire tournament, and, in addition missed a sitter tonight that Scott would have easily slotted home.

Do you think if Scott was born English then tonight might have been the first time in all of our lifetimes that we'd see England winning an international trophy?

Mods please make this into a poll.

Yes. Scotty would have been up for Ballon d'Or consideration had he played for one of the perennial powerhouse nations. Time for Prince William to fly the Dragon and invade Scotland.

What if he played for England though?

let's be serious, he doesn't make the XI. Rice is really great on paper, just had a quite bad tournament. And you can't cut Mainoo at his form at the moment

Having slept on this, there's no way England don't win with his the added firepower from McTom up front, but also from the vastly improved forward passing, pressing, positioning, pace and skill he provides (compared to Rice).

although Scott has his limitations as he such as different type of player to anything else England have yes he would have to be at least in the squad for me. As and impact sub from midfield to get a goal or 2 there are few better and England sure have nothing like him. Maybe Bellingham was playing as a sort of a poor mans Scott .

If he wasn't a traitor who turned his back on the country he was born, raised and continues to live in my then it would've come home.

He officially the reason for England's failure. Nothing else.

Enough about Declan Rice, what about McTominay?

The question isn't "would England have beaten Spain with McTominay?" it's "how many days before the final would the Spanish have forfeited the match out of fear?"

No but if they would have a better chance if they had a prime Michael Carrick. Watching yesterdays game re enforced the need for a 6 that can control the tempo of a game England right now don’t have one maybe Wharton. Mainoo and Rice are both 8s why the Spanish totally dominated the middle of the park yesterday . I will give Mcsauce some Credit he definitely scores one of those headers Rice had at the end of the game.

That's pretty insulting to our oldest members. Football existed before the EPL was created you know.

I know it's a fun thread but still it's not like Southgate would have picked any other starting eleven.

I think the results from this poll are pretty clear. Thanks to the mod who added this.

Is this why so many people want him sold in the other thread ? English fans can no longer bare to look at the man who clearly would have won them their first international tournament of all time ever?

It's all started because the little guy in him wanted to play for Scotland.

Lesson learned that sometimes in life, man should use logic over succumb to his little one need.

It's a shame that generational talents like Haaland and McTominay will never get a fair chance at winning an international trophy because they play for small football nations

But at least McTominay was able to drag his side kicking and screaming into the Euros. It's why he's more likely to win the Ballon d'Or than Haaland.

Same way that half the England squad should have choose Ireland instead. Better chance of winning too.

Let's be honest here, neither Haaland nor McTominay will win the Ballon d'Or in an EC/WC year. They are probably going to give it to a player who has a fraction of Scott's talent just because his team mates won him a big international title. Super unfair but that's the way it is.
