Wot, no transfers? It's all happening now!

Don't why but I've got a feeling that VdB and a late punt on a left-back is it lads. I think the board made their minds up that Sancho was a no-go this window as soon as they realised that Dortmund were not going to budge on their valuation. We probably were in for Bale as a stop-gap but he was always choosing Spurs over us.

Remind me how many players Liverpool, Man City, Barcelona, Bayern, PSG & Juventus have signed?

The reality is most of the action takes place in the last 2 weeks. Now add in a global pandemic...

Get a grip and let it play out before going into meltdown.

Liverpool are the best team in the league and have just signed one of the worlds best midfielders and a solid squad player. City are almost as good as and have made two solid signings already, and i'm sure they will get more.

Barcelona haven't done much but I can assure you their fans are having a much bigger meltdown that some of us!

Bayern are the best team in the world, have signed Sane and are set to do more business.

Not sure about PSG and Juventus but they already have great squads and aren't any of the 6 teams competing with us for 4 places in the domestic league, which is our minimum requirement.

At the moment, I don't have much confidence that we will bring anyone else in - I think it's fair to be a little bit worried. We showed our lack of ambition after our 2nd place finish a few years ago, we could easily do the same again.

We need multiple signing especially if Sancho isnt coming. look at the dippers ffs. Finished 30 something points ahead of us and strengthening like mad.

All of our rivals are.

Its a pisstake what is going on at United.

So apart from Chelsea no big clubs have been out signing loads of players during the global pandemic.

Liverpool have signed 3 after winning the league by a million points..... All of our rivals and even some relegation candidates are outspending us.

We need the reinforcements to keep progressing. There really is no excuse.

I'd like to see a table of all the clubs expenditure so far into a window to see where we currently at.

Thought all the noodles sponsorships and Ed's business genius over the years would have been able to see us through covid 19, but all the media transfer journos makes out like it's affected us the most.

Also, to add we really need to improve on how to get to rid of players but also for a fair price. We always end up getting sod all or players always end up here longer than they should, rotting away i.e. lingard, darmian, rojo, Jones etc. Partially because of ridiculous contracts too.

Let’s wait until the end of the transfer window.

There will be a lot less transfers this summer than in a normal year. We can only truly evaluate and compare transfers between clubs at the end of the window.

That sounds like a lot of horse shit. Do proper scouting and sign adequate players within your budget.

Ole says ‘life isn’t a straight line’ and I get that he’s covering for the ineptitude of Woodward et al but nevertheless, the comment has made me laugh.

We don’t have any alternatives to Sancho.

It’s akin to to complaining that you don’t have enough money to shop at Harrods whilst being on an average wage - if you can’t afford something - go elsewhere. It really is as simple as that.

Yeah this is what grinds my gear. Every team moves on if they cant afford a player. While we seem to spend ages waiting. We waited a year for Griezmann ( if we are to believe the press) a year for Sancho and now they are rumours going around that we might wait one more. Madness.
Right wing has been our achilles heel for decades. Yet our board is obsessed with showing off a new #7 for the shareholders to lap up. Bang out of order. Its not a popularity contest.
Get someone else in simple as that. I refuse to believe they arent any gettable talented right wingers in world football.

Seems Alexis deal left bad taste in mouth we are scared to go for similar deals.

I still feel we missed the trick by not signing Thiago/Bale as the risk is very low. Bale on 12M a year and Thiago for 25M+10M a year wages are not that of a risk.

As we have a young team I think we could have used Thiago/Bale experience to help these boys.

Wondering if Ole vetoed these signings OR the board.

Don't think too much, the more you think the more angry you'll get at our inept board/owners.

That’s my thinking too. It’s like what do you talk about?
Any progress on sancho?
No.
Okay then.

rinse and repeat for whole transfer window? :wenger:

Surely a club of our stature would have contingency plans?

Funny thing is, we don’t get sancho we go for Brooks. Now I’m not saying brooks is bad player but going from one of the best talents in the world to a gamble just seems daft. Why not just sign brooks in the first place and hope we hit the jackpot.

Looks like that after bring a versatile midfielder, we'll sign a Porto fullback.
All we have to do is add a geriatric goalkeeper and it's the summer of 2018 over again.

So now they're coming from book balancing point of view re:Bruno signing? There is no rule about not getting the player that help the team. You get good players when possible, and whenever to help the team, not waiting for your annual finance report.

Arguably Bruno would have been the signing 2 summers ago. It took until last winter window. Right now, the team need right (has been a while). Arguably CB, an attacking Full Back.

Wish you hadn’t mentioned that, that’s a whole new embarrassing chapter, our stadium is looking so old right now it’s like walking back in time. Decades.

The club I love is not the club I fell in love with. The Glazers and Ed have taken a big shit on everything SAF accomplished. Liverpool just won the league title and there is zero response from United, top 4 is the new norm.

We can do things in the transfer market that other clubs can only dream of.

to

We can be best at the things that don't cost anything.

Liverpool have built a quality team not by making 5-6 signings in a window but going for quality over quantity ensuring that each transfer is successful and slowly but surely having quality in every position and building a team that will be strong for a number of years. This is clearly what our strategy is and it worked better last season than any window we’ve had previously. We finally have a manager that doesn’t have a team full of his own flops. I’m not wrong about that, we’ve obviously shifted our approach entirely.

The Caf going into meltdown over Chelsea buying 5-6 players which we have done in the past with 0 success, and Spurs making signings like Bale, which we have done similar of in the past with 0 success, is pathetic.

We need a couple more players that’s a fact. But we need to save the meltdowns until after the window closes. Having these bratty reactions because we’re missing out on the thrill of signing players when other clubs are signing players clearly who don’t fit into our strategy (older players, players who want to join other teams, players demanding silly wages, injury prone players) is pathetic.

The fans and the manager wanted exactly that, quality over quantity by signing Sancho, when we were alone in the run, and by the looks of it we were let down again.
There are players out there who can improve us. We shouldn't spend just because others are but I find it hard to believe our entire transfer strategy seems to be hinged on the Sancho deal.

Why do we also find it so hard to sell players? Is it because of their wages? Well then we'll have to take the hit for stupidly giving those players such high wages.

That's one of the downsides of being shit.
You have to lure players by offering high wages since the sports project is unconvincing.
For the first time in seven long years we're looking like we're headed somewhere, therefore we have some pull and don't need to offer ridiculous wages to attract players.
If we keep handing these figures, the board is more stupid than I thought.

That sounds like a quote I will expect from a club like Spurs, Wolves, Arsenal or Leicester, definitely not United.

Be terrible if we go into the season with only VdB as the transfer. Even Telles and VdB is a pretty underwhelming window. It was clear at the end of last season, we needed to make the next step and bring in some top signings. Whether VdB turns out to be a good signing or not, it's probably a position we could've got away with not strengthening so he's not plugging a gap.

Then you consider what the other clubs have done. Liverpool brought a full-back in for depth which they needed, a world class CM for a team lacking creativity from that position and a forward who can cover 3 positions and on his day is a great player. Arsenal brought in two CB's, their main weakness and brought in an experienced good attacker in Willian, kept PEA too. Chelsea have went full out, just need a GK to complete a very impressive window. Spurs have been sensible, strengthening with solid players and could get lucky with Bale if he's keeps fit. City have added depth to a weakness position in Ake and Torres is a highly rated youngster, I'd expect them to sign 1-2 more.

Ole's comments are a bit worrying, stating they are hopeful of bringing one more in. Sounds like we have exhausted all our options with Sancho.

I don’t think those people (I’m also saying it) are dicks excusing your owners, so you can cut that shit straight away. We are saying what was said at the time Bruno was purchased. Whether we like it or not the net budget appears to be around 75-80m more often than not.

I’ll cut that shit when my owners cut the shit. Your choice to swallow it, pal.

No financial upside to improving the stadium, so it never happens. This does not include the corporate hospitality suites, of course, some of which I know are getting a major upgrade in the near future (which would tend to indicate that a new or heavily refurbed stadium are not anywhere on the horizon).

Ole just basically said what we all feared. No Sancho and we don't have alternatives to go for. We are ONE injury away from seeing Lingard or Pereira in the front three. Ole doesn't think James is good enough, nor Ighalo, and Mata can't play full 90mins a few games on the trot. We were supposed to getting rid of dross like those two and we are going into the season knowing they will be an integral part of the team.

It's been a complete shambles, as many have said we've still got 4 or 5 players that need to be shifted and we've not strengthened, its time for change! If people can't campaign to get the glazers out perhaps its time to get a better negotiator for our transfers,

Liverpool have stengthened their attack more than us this summer. Given the collective stengths of the respective teams over recent seasons, that doesn't really make any sense.

I think that's what the plan was - Sancho. Which is fine if you can actually sign him. Imagine one player being your focus and botching that up. FFS.

It makes perfect sense to me.

They have a better manager, a better scouting system, a better long-term vision, and better people running the whole transfer business.

No excuses if we don't sign an alternative to Sancho

Another season anooooother without signing a quality right winger..............

Where's the planning?

fecking Leeds have spent 68m during this global pandemic, Leeds. We are the most marketable club on the planet and have been outspent by Everton.

Are you actually concerned about Leeds?

A club that’s just has a massive boost to their revenue, and needed to spend money to survive this season.

Irrelevant? I wonder how much City and PSG’s owners have taken out of their clubs?

What’s your point? That having the GDP of a small nation piled into your football club is an advantage? If so, I think that goes without saying!

Problem is, it’s pretty hard to argue we’re hard done by when we’ve spent more net than Real Madrid, Barcelona, Liverpool, Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Juventus since 2010...

Lest we forget, we spent £70m net last summer and we’ve already spent £85m this year so far. The Glazers don’t control WHO we buy, that’s down the Ed, the Scouting team and the Manager. We can rightly point to the money we’ve spent on re-financing and dividends but the fact remains, the Glazers will feel £1BN net on transfers in 10yrs should be enough to compete for every trophy
