Worst PL players "stealing a living"?

Berahino maybe?

Aye that's him. I kept getting Behrami on the tip of my tongue, can picture him and remember him being hyped as Englands next best striker and then nothing. I'm pretty sure Liverpool were linked with him for a while too. No doubt he's a multi millionaire now though. The crazy world of premier league football.

£3mio a year and still hasn't scored a goal for them after 22 matches. The last time he scored a goal was for WBA on 27th Feb 2016

Lingard easilly he earns as much as Serie A's WC players did 10+ years ago

We're paying a squad rotation player wages that only important/key players should earn

No, you are comparing a pre-tax wage with post-tax wages.

I don't understand why West Ham bought Arnautovic and I don't understand why he went there either.

He had a good season in 2015/16 and since then he's been utterly abysmal. Now whenever you watch him at West Ham it's like he's actively trying to make them lose.

Some of the shouts on here are stupid. There is a difference between overpaid (Lingard) and actually stealing a living. Look at Brad Jones for example, English career started in 2001 and moved away from UK in 2016 in that 15 years he made 71, yes just 71 appearances. That's 4.7 appearances a year for a whole career. Actually makes me a little angry how much he will have been paid in that time.

You don't wanna look up Richard Wright's wiki..

2008 Lampard signs a new contract worth £140k - becomes highest paid EPL player
2009 Gerrard signs a new contract worth £140k a week
Chelsea captain John Terry signs new five year £150,000-a-week contract
...
2014 Sturridge signs new 5 year contract worth £150l a week
2015 Hazard signs a new 5 year contract worth £200k a week
2016 Willian signs new 4 year contract worth around £120k a week
2017 Coutinho signs a new contract worth around £150k a week - becomes highest paid Pool player
Lingard signs a new contract worth around £100k a week

Jones earns around 120k

The England forward has agreed a deal that will tie him to Old Trafford until June 2021, although there is the option of a further year. It is thought his salary will increase to around £75,000 a week.

No one even cares that Sky might be using the biggest fee to generate more clicks, it's sort of became fact that Lingard is on 100K.

What? Did you read my post? The Italian wages you listed are post-tax. The British wages are quoted pre-tax. Lingard does not earn more than the top earner in Serie A today nor in 2006.
That's why I replied with the EPL contract signings from the past few years. He still earns more than 2mio€ after tax which is crazy money for such a limited player.

Lukaku is in 200k/wk? Dang.. He's on the same bracket as Hazard.

Crazy isn't it? I don't mind footballers in general being paid big money but the ones who don't even play being millionaires is nuts. The same with managers, people like Stuart Pearce and Mick McCarthy haven't done a single decent job in management and yet will have made millions from it.

Even though I've nothing against him in the slightest You could argue Romero is stealing a living, he gets 10’s of thousands each week to basically train a few days and sit on the bench.

Love he’s our number 2 though.

You could say that about any number 2 keeper really. But I’d say it’s almost harder for them, training instead of matches, having to be sharp and focused when they get rare time on the pitch. On reflection I’d say it’s harsh to level this at Romero since he’s such a good keeper when he gets in

Ffs. So many idiots. Lingard is a prem footballer .

Stephen Ireland is the best example I can think of

What? Prem footballer? No other team is stupid enough to pay 100k a week for a squad player. Some people are saying it's not his fault for getting paid that much but won't there always be a contract negotiation which the player has to agree and then sign the contract?

surely 'stealing a living' implies that they sort of bluffed their way into it, or don't really try or bother in any way, are lazy gits, and yet still make all that moolah, maybe because of their standing, past success, or dumb luck despite laziness.

which is why saying Lingard is bollocks. I don't rate him, I don't think he's good enough for utd, but he's clearly worked very hard to get where he is, and continues to work very hard, and in any profession, football included, that to me is not stealing a fecking living!

It depends on what the OP implied, It could also mean getting paid money more than what they deserve according to their skill level.

It's relatively easy to criticise 3rd choice goalkeepers at clubs for not being ambitious enough, but they're playing a role and being paid as such.
I doubt the likes of Richard Wright or Hilario at Chelsea were taking home mega money

I don't agree with this thread. The players do not make the current football pay market. The industry does. "Stealing a living" is extremely subjective.

Jozy Altidore (Sunderland) 1 goal in 42 games, also crap
regular scorer in America & Holland, tbf

never mind Lingard, what about Depay at United - he was properly fecking hopeless

Yeah like I said I’m happy he’s with us and have no issues with him whatsoever but which ever way you look at it he’s getting paid an absurd amount for essentially training and playing 1/2 games a month.

Do you think he should be going in an demanding to be paid less or something?

In the wider context of wages versus the average man in the street I’d agree with you. However in the world of football he’s doing the job that he’s employed to do, so harsh to say that he’s stealing a living or one of the worst in the PL as the thread title says

I think people are just listing players that they don’t rate as opposed to thinking about the topic stealing a living

No he shouldn't be asking for less, maybe he would have agreed if they had negotiated to pay him less. No wonder we have so many average players in our team. You might be asking the wrong question, ask yourself if he deserves to be paid that much. There are plenty of players who work hard just like Lingard and get paid less.

The funniest thing about all the Lingard getting paid 100k a week posts is that he doesn't even get paid 100k a week.

Edit: Oh wait, he does now that we've qualified for the Champions League this season. Yeah, that's a fecking shocker. Why's he paid so much?

Yeah there’s a lad named Jesse Lingard, stealing a living can’t remember the last good thing he did

(Ps- you’re an idiot)

"What's that? You're offering me £100k per week? Feck off, I'm not that good. I'm clearly being appreciated way too much here, I want a transfer. Hopefully there's a club out there who values me less."

-What SachinJ22 thinks a footballer should respond if they're offered wages he deems to high.

Some very odd choices on this thread? Mooy who's having a really good season at Huddersfield?!

Simon Francis was with Bournemouth when they were in league 1. Think that's a really good story that Bournemouth had a core of players (him, Pugh, Charlie Daniels and harry Arter) who have all risen through the divisions and still get regular games in the top flight.

I have to say first name that sprung to mind for this thread was Theo Walcott. Still only 28 but he just seems to have semi retired? Content to sit on the bench at Arsenal and play the odd europa league game rather than drop a bit and try and inspire a team just outside the top 8 to improve, far too much like hard work.

Would Luke Shaw fit that category or is it that Mourinho just hates him?

Debuchy would be another. Had injury problems but he's hardly played a game in two years yet dosen't move on.

Last few seasons you could name pretty much whole teams of players. Sunderland team last year and Villa in 15/16 had: Micah Richards, Lescott, Kieron Richardson, Scott Sinclair and N'zogbia. :nono:
