Worst attacking subs ever?

Could be worse. Could have made no subs until extra time, then at the 100th minute taken off your best attacking outlet for a midfielder to play for pens :wenger:
Think you’re taking the comedy movie “Mike Basset: England Manager” too seriously something like that would never happen in the real game. :D

He has a habit of throwing the sink at it, but we weren’t really creating any clear cut chances either. Would have kept McTominay on though..

Well what else should he have done than try and throw the kitchen sink at them? Not his fault we have to bring on players like Rashford that can barely control a football these days

We were shite before the subs and shite after. When one brand of shite clearly isn’t working then shaking things up makes sense. Even if we didn’t make those subs it looked like we could have played for two hours and not scored.

I thought we were decent until their goal, had control of the midfield until the subs, admittedly struggling to create anything clear cut. It was a shambles after, and we ended up with our most inventive player off the pitch, with another number 10 who’s basically retired on the pitch.

Imagine if I had said before the tie that we’d need a goal in the last 10 minutes and we’d end up with Mata on the pitch and Bruno on the bench. I’m not saying we shouldn’t have made changes, but they were horrid.

How many did we have after? We certainly had far less control.

What use is control when you are creating absolutely nothing and need a goal? He made three subs and when that failed to change anything, he made another couple in a desperate attempt to improve things which is logical.

And our most creative player was on the bench. You know the one who created the goal from nothing in the away leg, the player who always does that.

Yea killed our flow. And even if we had equalized we then would have had a weird formation.

It's not like Ragnick has a lot of options to work with, although I think starting with both Bruno and Ronaldo was not the ideal set up but anyway the subs were really poor and just show how the squad is very thin and weak. Rashford was painful to watch.

The randomness of the bit part shite on the pitch towards the end of the game was truly embarrassing. Like some sort of weird MLS side in a couple of years bar Sancho who looks like the only proper footballer.

When subs actually slow down the game more than the tired players they came in for then you know the state of squad.

Pogba and rashford took out any chance we had of scoring, after they came on i don't think we created a single half chance for ronaldo or cavani, zero service to the forwards. Instead the feckers that are pogba and rashford lost the ball half a dozen times.

Its scandalous, that's what it is. The squad needs gutting.

Bruno had assists in all CL games he played up until this one, whereas Pogba has recorded zero assists in the CL.

This + Rashford on at all, regardless of whom he is replacing are probably the dodgy ones.
Yeah agreed, taking out Bruno while chasing a lead is ridiculous.

You have to remember that Scott & Bruno were coming back from injury / covid respectively, so not a surprise to see them come off.

It was unfortunate that we swapped them for 2 x invisible men and telling that Matic & Mata contributed most (of the subs).

Be interested to hear what the tactical geniuses on here think we should have done with what was available, the rock throwing is a bit myopic without counter suggestions

Rashford and Cavani were abysmal, one already checked out mentally and other sulking because he isn't a guaranteed starter regardless of form anymore

No manager in the world would've done much better in such a short period considering the absolute mess the team is in

The one thing I really don't underatand is the Bruno sub. If there's one player you want on the pitch when you're taking chances it's him. If we were in the lead taking Bruno off makes a lot of sense because of his chance taking and frequent loss of ball but when you're chasing a goal it really makes no sense at all, it's idiotic even.

I think the thread title is most accurate when you take it to mean “the attacking substitutes who produced the worst individual performances ever” Because that’s definitely possible. Throwing on the kitchen sink when you’re desperate for a goal is fine, Fergie did it all the time. But my god, how badly did Pogba/Rashford/Cavani/Mata play? Absolute muck from every one of them. That’s what really made last night so unprecedented. So much money invested in this squad and that is the best they can produce with 15 minutes left to save the season? Unbelievable.

At the beginning of the season, we thought we had so much depth in attack. Now it seems we dont have enough quality forwards.

Rashford is completely out of form
Cavani just came back for an injury and hasn't played too much this season so his fitness levels are bellow average.
Pogba wants to leave anyway and doesn't care too much, his mind is elsewhere
Mata played how much 100 minutes the whole season ? He can barely run or be called a professional footballer

Overall that's what we have at the moment, Ralf just brought in our attacking "leftovers" considering how little we created last night.

Harsh on Mata, as your own stats show, he touched the ball just as much as the other in a quarter of the time!

Exactly. He came on as 8th choice attacker effectively, and having a person of his quality as the 8th choice highlights the

Add to that, he was arguably the 2nd best sub (after Matic), best attacking sub, and was more involved than others in a positive way

Its up there with LVG bringing on two RBs and a DM when we were drawing 1-1 with Liverpool in Europa, needing three goals.

Not particularly. These are the options we have. Strangely enough, many of you lot once considered them good enough.

We had Ole who hardly made any subs.
Now we have Ralf who apparently makes the wrong subs.
Stop getting football wrong!

People are clearly ignoring that Bruno and McTominay have just come back from Covid and injury respectively. There was even a doubt Bruno would play until he trained the day before. It's no surprise that neither of them lasted the full 90.

Pogba and Rashford were disgraceful once they came on....no desire, no spirit and no determination to grab a hold of the game and try to change its course. They've both been dreadful for a while now. Pogba must be the worst 9 digit transfer ever. In 6 years he's literally had a handful of good games.
