World Junior Hockey Championship

Cracking game between the USA and Canada last night/today (I say that as I saw the whole game on delay this afternoon). Got to say the Canadian's were a bit sloppy and way to complacent. Quinn needs to kick the backsides, as if they play the States again in this tourney they'll get the backsides kicked.

I was a bit shocked at the States, I thought they shied away from the rough stuff, but that was a cheap shot at Taveres as he passed the bench.

Well that was a close one. Hopefully my prediction is wrong. The last couple of games has shown our normal lack of discipline and an uncharacteristic leaky defence. We need to stay out of the penalty box and focus on the down low defence if we want that Gold.

what canada really needs is to follow a less gay sport like figure skating or badmington

just joking :p

Traits of a Pat Quinn coached tream.

I doubt he will be back next year regardless of the outcome of tonights game.

Go Canada!

Anyway.. Let's go Sweden! The team has been brilliant so far and although I was nervous for a while in the semi against Slovakia I think they showed great mental strength to pull through. To win the WJHC in Canada in a final against.. well, Canada would be amazing, but I'm still pretty pessimistic. They haven't won it 4 years in a row for nothing. And with the support they will get from the crowd tonight it feels like we almost need a miracle to win it.

Canada - USA was one of the best games of hockey I've seen in a long time.

Can't wait for the game tonight to start.

Could get interesting now, two Canadian players out at the same time.

Yet somehow, they found a Swedish player to give a two-minute penalty as well, and Sweden only get to play 5 against 4, rather than 5-3 or 4-3.

Sweden have no chance of winning this if the referees keep favouring Canada like this.

The goalie deserved a penalty there as well.

get your head out of your ass.

The Swedish goalie is flopping around like a fish out of water.

It's not looking good right now. Swedens PP has been pathetic.

I think I want to kill this Della Rovere character.

Crazy game.

So fecking what? If the special directives from the referees are that the keeper is untouchable, why isn't it a penalty when he is touched?

No excuses for leaving a trailing leg like that, the intention was clear and the referee bottled it.

Dwayne: Why should it have been a penalty on the keeper?

Congrats to Canada on their fifth cup in a row. You deserved it.

Sweden had a great tournament all in all, but spazzed out on this one.

Good thing my prediction was wrong. The difference tonight was our goaltending showed up for the first time all tournament. If you would have told me before the game Markstrom would get outplayed by our goalie I would have told you you were crazy!

Sweden returns a lot of players next year. It will be an interesting tournament to watch in Saskatchewan next year! Canada can return a lot of players as well but I think most of them will be in the NHL by then.

The Canadian player was skating toward the puck, clear case of interference.

Well, congratulations to Canada. Well played.

Credit to Sweden for pulling the goalie and going for it, twice. Your no. 9 looks good, too.

Go Saskatoon!

Yeah, I thought your goalie was supposed to suck and Markström is said to have the potential to be better than King Henrik even. Feels like the roles were reversed tonight.

Love this tournament though and our team is very young so there's always next year (our year :D)

In fairness the Canadian goalie played a blinder.

The IIHF should just give us the trophy every year and let everyone else play for second place.

Failing that, Canada should be forced to send a team that is not allowed to participate but whose players are selected by the remaining teams in a mini-draft. Those Canadians would then wear red jerseys so everyone knows just how much better they make the other teams. Every Canadian would also get a gold medal no matter which nation won.

Markström was clearly the first to reach the puck, hence him clearing the puck before Esposito tripped him. Esposito was nowhere near the puck and was only out to bring him down. And even if it was an interference, Esposito wouldn't have been able to score had he been penalised and it had been 5 on 5.

Didn't have much choice, really. Numbers are arbitrary when being 3, 4 or 5-1 down with a couple of minutes to go.
