Had to put murder in caps for effect... on the news now... bet Chelsea
was involved

Replying to Dumpstar from my thread

As manic as sub Indian fans are, they wouldn't resort to cold, calculated and nearly immaculately carried out murder.

No, this was a business deal.

Doesn't have to be a business deal. Could be the work of a single deranged fan and this wouldn't even be the first time. The case of Monica Seles comes to mind.

id put money on it being something to do with a betting syndicate..

There's a good chance that that's the case. Players could have been involved in throwing the WI match but there are enough maniacs out there who can take a game a little too seriously.

How many Pakistanis are running around on the islands in the seas of the Spanish Main at the moment anyway? Can't be that many surely?

Just saw the press conference on Sky, and it's a real tragedy. I'm with geebs on this one...I think there's enough motive in there to suggest that someone associated with matchfixing or betting who was responsible for this. The Sun has an article where an ex-Pakistani cricketer is quoted as saying that he believes its the matchfixing mafia who are behind this...of course it's what you'd expect from a tabloid, but I think there's something to it.

He probably knew his killer, no forced entry, no sign of a struggle

A lot of people travel far and wide to watch these matches especially from the Indian subcontinent and it only takes one mad one.

Can't be sure of that. Anyone could have knocked on the door and said he wanted to tell him how bad he felt about the loss blah blah.

Yeah, the cops have been looking at the tapes covering the area outside his room

Fingerprints of Pakistani players have been taken, still reckon this is the work of a bookie though.

The thing is though, I can't see why a syndicate would be involved really?? The manager can not throw a match, it would have to be the players.

I think the syndicate thing is a bit far fetched to be honest.

Looks like an argument with someone he knows if the report I read was accurate (big if I know) or at least someone who didn't need to break in. It doesn't mean it was a Pakistani player mind. Or a betting syndicate. Or an enraged fan. Or ??????

It was a drunk Freddie Flintoff!

On Sky they were saying that investigators were definitely taking a look at his knowledge about a match fixing scandal from a few years ago, and the fact he may have been preparing a tell-all book about corruption in cricket.

Unless he was going to reveal something about a fixed match.

Kinell, now I'm speculating.

Some other things being brought up in the news just now

-Could be looking for more than one person
-Found fingerprints not belonging to Woolmer in the room
-A considerable amount of force was required to inflict the damage

Yes, there was a mention specifically of "two" people being a possibility.

Mind you, could just as likely be 4 people and a crack team of trained ostriches. It's all speculation at this point.

It does take a lot of force to break that bone in your neck - and is not the kind of force strictly necessary to strangle someone - could indicate a degree of anger, or a revenge/warning element somehow to it. Or that the person/people involved did it with tremendous force in order to do it very quickly without any sign of struggle.

That story all day doing the rounds about him vomiting, then possibly fainting and cracking his throat on the toilet bowl sounded about as plausible as the
'trained ostriches' theory. It is horrible for someone to die, but it gives me more confidence in the law enforcement agencies of the world that this is being taken very seriously as an homicide and not brushed under the carpet.

If a betting syndicate were responsible, then surely they'd have used a more sophisticated method of killing him. It seems more likely to me that it was the result of a spur of the moment kind of attack during an argument of some sort.

Like what? Radiation poisoning?

In the old days, they just would have hit him over the head, tied some cement to his body, and threw him into the sea.

Looks like a good breeding ground for a conspiracy theory concerning Hansie Cronje's plane crash.

I feel totally sickened

As much as we all take the various teams and sports we follow to heart, it is only a game

My condolences to his family, and I hope that the perpetrator(s) are brought to justice

Bob Woolmer - a fantastic cricketer, and coach.

May we all remember those facts, and not let the unseemly events that surround the end of his life colour our opinions of a gentle, kind man.

May he rest in peace

Well why would a betting syndicate have waited to kill him during the world cup, with no weapon, as well as the fact it would be to risky to do it in a hotel what with CCTV etc. You'd think they would have waited untill after the world cup, so they could do the job at his house, away from any cameras.
