Talks the talk, can he walk the walk?

Surprised at MUTV putting people on the spot within the club asking questions about transfers/budgets and fiances within the club, never used to do that.

It used to be a don't ask questions channel/everything smells of roses.

I think it comes from Woodward.

He was talking yesterday about being open with the fans and I think he knows that fuelling most fans raging inner muppet is a pretty good way of building a rapport.

This is correct. Woodward wants the club to be more transparent compared to how Gill ran the club.

I think it works commercially for him too.

What he wants is a player who is going to sell a crap load of shirts - somebody the fans also want.

No point buying a star name for several millions, that won't bring the cash back in.

I think he's seen how Madrid operate and realises we can have the best of both worlds in that sense.

What an utter embarrassment this club is becoming. Woody just can't keep his mouth shut can he? Here's a novel idea, rather then constantly running around telling the whole world how great we are and how much power we have in the market, how about we just, ya'know, sign some top quality players? Rather then spending the whole Summer pissing around over a few million here and there.
.
The embarrassment is you. You come across as the worst kind of fan who don't know much about the history and uniqueness of the club. You also come across as somewhat clueless regarding the transfer market. It's not as simple as ABC like you imagine you know. As the clubs CEO he can say whatever he wants.

We're becoming akin to the former supermodel who's now in her 40's, but still dressing up in hot pants and boob tubes telling anyone who will listen that she used to be a model. Just shut up and get the job done.
The anger you've shown is staggering and unnecessary! The comparison is so daft and inappropriate. What an embarrassing post!

He should sign both Pogba and Vidal then, £85m should do the trick

If James Rodriguez is worth £75m then surely these 2 would be worth an £85m investment, would make us one of the best teams in the world even without Champions League football.

----- Pogba Vidal
Adnan------------Mata

Aye, we've spent a chuffing fortune on Marouane Fellaini, a Chelsea reject, a fixed price Spaniard and the most expensive left back in the history of football (with one international cap and a handful of assists to his name). That's me convinced that Woody is shit hot when it comes to sealing those tricky transfer deals.

Obviously, he's always going to be heavily reliant on a manager who knows his shit in the transfer market and Moyes did a very good impression of being completely clueless. Still, you'd have to be very naive to think paying more than his buyout clause to sign Fellaini was the sum total of his ambitions in the market last summer and even more naive to decide that Woodward was completely blameless for the resultant shambles.

Since then we've spent a tonne of money but I'm still waiting to see a deal which makes me confident that our negotiators are on top of their game. Since Gill left, I can't think of one really impressive bit of business by the club. So for me, giving it billy big bollocks about how much money we have to spend proves feck all.

Which bit of Gill's business impressed you the most? Was it the $30m for Berbatov or the £7.5m for Bebe?

I love how one of the best players in the Premier League constantly gets referred to as a Chelsea reject.

Found it odd with Van Gaal saying he wants wait and see the current squad for 3 or 4 weeks before making decisions, only for ed to come out a few days later saying we have some signings planned for the near future. Not exactly singing from the same book, but hopefully it points to Van Gaal having already highlighted a few more key signings to be made regardless of how he finds the current players, and not just more smoke and mirrors on eds part.
Maybe the 3 or 4 weeks is for deciding who to keep and who to let go. Regardless of who stays or goes, any players coming in will be of superior quality to those remaining.

He said he watches social media, isn't he? Let's use it and make #dontsigncavani viral on twitter?

#dontsigncavaniuntilvidalandhummelsaretieddown

How about that?

This 3-4 weeks evaluating the players line is complete bollocks.

LVG will know what he needs and what he doesn't from the squad.

You don't walk into your first press conference and declare that half the squad is shit and needs replacing. His 3-4 weeks comment was the diplomatic approach.

Exactly my thinking.

Net spend in first three years was £30 mil.

In the first two season the net spend was £5 million and ferguson took us from 3rd to 1st.

I would say that the glazers didn't invest proportionately to the success achieved and that it was only by the astute use of limited funds of SAF , that afforded the release of funds in later years...

3 years isn't a complete indication of the actual investment to success either... What top club had comparable success as united , including champions final appearances, in the last 10 years and what was their net spend, playbill and revenue generated?

Weird how the obsession with net spend persists - thought it was fully discredited by now. Still, if you insist, the net spend for the first three (financial) years was £71m and for the first two £42.8m. It helps if you look at the audited financials rather than transferleague.com (who have racked up an enormous cumulative error since the takeover). It also helps to remember that more than £20m of the transfer budget in the first two years was taken up by paying the more than 50% of the Rooney and Ronaldo transfer fees that were unpaid at the time of the takeover.

I think the most simple and easy one for him to get and to get trending would be #SignVidal

Woodward's left the US tour this morning (still a.m Stateside).

I think it's safe to say that, coupled with his claims in his latest interview and the fact he won't repeat last summer's cock-ups, this means business.

In the words of the Great Man himself, "Watch this space"...

P.S I also find it brilliant on Woodward's part that he's teed-up these latest big signings for himself with that latest interview. Promising big names, promising large cash reserves, giving himself a few days headstart before he delivers the big ones.

Well in, Ed. Quite a ballsy move but one we don't mind you allowing yourself.

Remember when he left our tour last season for "urgent transfer business"...

Bllody 'ell...not again.

Can someone send out a search party...we can't have him going AWOL on us again!

Yeah, I do. And so what?

It was well documented that the 'Fabregas to United' transfer talks were taking place at the time. Woodward left Australia for Europe, held talks with various representatives but a deal couldn't be struck. Big deal - it happens in 90% of transfer talks between clubs.

It's different this time. Woodward is wary of making the same mistakes again, and judging by his comments this week, he knows he has a big fish in the net ready to be announced. He's not an idiot, for crying out loud!

Does it really bear repeating everytime ?

What's done is done. I doubt an intelligent man like him will repeat the same mistakes twice in a row (especially now when he's essentially put himself on the spot and has the added benefit of hindsight).

It's quite absurd that he still has the monkey on his back despite signing players worth a total of 125+ million GBP since then, letting go of the previous manager, appointing Van Gaal, signing up the biggest legal football sponsorship in the world...

Yet all some can focus on is the "urgent transfer bit" from 12 months ago...

Is this confirmed or is it from that crap Twitter account?

I'm just saying. He's not briefed anyone that it's transfer related, everyone's just assuming. It's perfectly plausible that he's going to do something else. We'll see what happens but I think it's premature to get excited about this.

I've seen it on various United accounts on Twitter (although that's not to say that they've come from the same source).

I see. Well, it would make sense that he's not going to spend three weeks in the US with the team while there are other (urgent ;) ) business to look after.

So he is set to fly out? or he has flown out? either way there will be 8 hours plus until we hear anything.

Although, its not mentioned where he is going.....Chile anyone?

Woodward knows what he's doing this season. Have faith.

Talented, likeable in the main, sometimes polemic, goes missing on the big occasion.

Ladies and Gents Woodward is the Chairmen equivalent of Ronaldo circa 2003 - 2006

So what if he's flying back? He's based off London so he's most likely back to his office.

That is normal though. You can't stick around for three weeks on a tour and conduct transfer business.

Doesn't mean anything is imminent thought, he is just going to resume where he left off in those discussions.
