I'd judge him on the next transfer window. If we screw up this time then the manager won't be taking the blame.

I honestly don't know. With Moyes it's plain to see he was doing badly. Woodward has had 1 bad transfer window which is possibly forgivable considering he was new to the job. We don't know what else he does behind the scenes at all so its much harder to judge him. I guess we'll get a better idea at the end of the summer

This guy can't leave the club, he's the brains behind the glazers buying the club so whilst the glazers are here I would want them to keep Ed. He had a shambles of a summer, but it wasn't the easiest time to come in with that role with Fergie retiring.

There's no doubting he's an intelligent man, and if he can transfer his skills from signing sponsorship deals into dealing with football clubs then he could become a very shrewd asset for us.

Given what Mark Ogden said in the podcast I listened to earlier; that Moyes was nicknamed 'Dithering Dave' at Everton and often changed his mind back and forth over transfer signings leading often to a final few days of panic in the window, I'm beginning to think perhaps Mr Woodward received a bit too much stick for his part in last summer's fiasco

I heard something similar on The Times' podcast. They were saying it may have been the case where Woodward took the fall for Moyes' "dithering". Woodward came out looking like more of a fool and apparently there could have been some intention to take the light away from Moyes.

I think he handled sacking Moyes dreadfully, and I lost a lot of respect for him. I wanted Moyes out as much as anyone, but briefing the press and having him find out that way is simply unacceptable.

Contributed enormously to our shocking transfer business last summer and he gives me the feeling of a Glazer yes man.

Do not like.

Initially, I blamed Woody for the transfer fiasco, but by the end of the summer I held Dave mainly responsible.

We'll probably be active in the market over the summer so we'll see if Woody can do the business. The fact he was reported as saying Moyes could justifiably have been sacked anytime in the last two months is encouraging. No lack of decisiveness there.

He's obviously great at the commercial side of things. As for that sideshow we have running where some blokes kick a ball around, let's see how he goes this summer window as we don't know where the blame lies for last year between him and Dithering Dave (if the Thiago stories are true, it sounds like Moyes might be the main culprit). He sacked Moyes before he had the chance to do a full Souness on us so he gets some kudos for that.

I like him, and think he'll be the new Gill as soon as he finds his stolen chin.

Anyone that helped the Glazers smooth takeover of United i have no time for. And he as a slimy look about him.

He has tenure and significant equity already at the club to fall back on. He needs a strong summer so the Jury is still out on him.

He stays but is being watched.

Get rid of The Brain? No way.

If the story about how he handled Mata signing is true, he sounds like an absolutely brilliant Chief to have at the club. Guess we'll have to what happens in the summer though, he seems to have no problem signing sponsorship deals, a few more players and he'll righfully get his feet firmly planted under the table.

You realise United will have paid some serious agent fees for involving all those intermediaries right? I think as a businessman, which is his background, Woodward seems very able. He gets the corporate sponsorships and keeps the money rolling into Man Utd. On the football side he seems like he still has a lot to learn. I think agents and other clubs are going to fleece us in the transfer market. Also, if Woodward is setting the PR direction of the club he needs to buck up his ideas.

You can call him Woody, that earns him at bare minimum 4 disastrous seasons.

Too many adolescent puns to be made for him to be gotten rid of so soon imo.

I don't think he's a detriment to this club. To be honest he's one badass pimp. Banged a lot of sponsorship deals to sustain club's stability during a crisis and that's just in one year. It was him who gave green light to club's biggest transfer deal in January. He got nothing to do with a clueless team management or tactics.

I think he may break his own record this summer both for sponsorship deals and transfer fees. He proved that he's keen to invest in players and support manager in pursue of signings.

Don't sack him, let him do his job but don't let him disappear on a plane trip, again.

Last summer I always thought the main thing that worried me about Moyes was that his name doesn't carry any real weight in terms of signing players. Especially big names.

If Woodward had taken on the role while SAF was in charge I suspect he'd have found his first summer in charge a lot easier. Likewise I think he'll have a lot more luck this summer because Van Gaal, or any other manager who's likely to get the job, are big names who are much more likely to attract big players. I'm sure there were concerns last summer from players we tried to sign, over which way things would go with the club this year, and their concerns have been proven correct. The problem this summer is the lack of European football mind, so it's not as if it'll be a walk in the park this time around either...

He sacked Moyes, that gives him a free pass for the next decade as far as I am concerned.

Broke our transfer record in January and had the balls to sack Moyes. After a dodgy summer transfer window he's starting to look OK.

what has changed since a few months back that sees the swing from 58% wanting him out, to only about 22% now?

or more simply, why have people changed their minds about him?

How can anyone say no to that finger?

He obviously had a poor window last summer but we don't know exactly how much of that was down to dithering Dave.

If he has two shit summers in a row, under two different managers, it will become pretty clear he isn't suited to the role.

Who knows? Does anyone really have the insight/evidence to say conclusively either way? The only things we can go on really are the two windows, the sponsorship deals and that piece detailing how he masterminded the Mata deal. Let's just let him get on with it. If this summer is as big a cock up as the last then we know who's fault it was, anyway.

Hopefully he has learned a lot this season. If he doesnt make use of that next season then get rid of him.

I really have no idea if he should stay or go.

However, I'm impressed that he was willing to sack Moyes so soon. Obviously some would have had us do it sooner, but I was pretty sure Moyes would get another season just on principle.

But I think sacking Moyes was the right thing and Woodward deserves credit.

Am I the only one that finds comments look this bemusing? He was told to sack him. He didn't have any option.

Paid over the odds for two players we didn't really need & nobody else seemed to be queueing up for ?

Swivel eyed, short arse - can't take him seriously - munchkin Bond villain - why won't he shave?

"In today's Times Woodward was asked if United would pay £60m, £70m or more on a player.
He replied "Yes, absolutely" Waiting

If you'd been at school with him & he so much as looked in your direction - he wouldn't have made it to sixth form.

"If we have a bad year we have the financial strength to change the team. We have so much deeper financial strength that instead of selling three players and buying three, we can do five." = small man syndrome.

He seems like a shrewd man to have at the helm of the club. Obviously we'll see what happens this summer but since the last window (which he shares responsibility with Moyes for) he's done well. The fact that he has a good relationship with the Glazers is a positive for as long as they own the club.

Obviously coming into the role last year he had to defer to Fergie's judgement on a new manager, but I think it's a good thing that this time it's his decision and he's implementing a more thorough selection process. Also, the fact that he's a reportedly big fan of Klopp means he can recognize football qualities.

Finally, his willingness to meet with MUST and communicate with supporters is nice to see. Even though personally I find MUST annoying, the fact he's willing to sit down with supporter groups and discuss issues is encouraging.

More than just a commercial deal guru I reckon, I think we're in good hands.

Or worse, looked at your sister! :nono:

Is that right? I don't know the inside story. But as the CEO the buck stops with him, as they say. He will get ripped for any bad decisions the club makes, so he should get credit for those the club gets right.

As far as I know, we don't really know who was for firing him and who wasn't. You're saying the Glazers told him to fire Moyes and he didn't make any decision himself?

He was at least part of the decision to sack Moyes, along with the Glazers, other directors including Sirs Alex and Bobby.

Who do you think, out of that lot made the decision? He merely fired the bullets the others made and only did so when instructed to do so.

The man is a partly responsible for this whole debacle and is lucky still to be in a job. I find it hard to believe how short a memory so many have, when they find a scapegoat.
