Yeah there's no way that the money isn't there to spend, I won't believe that.
It has come down to Woodward and based off of this summer and last, it's something that he's clearly not capable of handling.
Point being why throw money at average players for the sake of it! What teams have done in the Championship, League 1 and 2 is totally irrelevant and is sensationalism in terms of press trying to highlight the troubles united are having.
There are a few weeks to go in the transfer window and I do hope we get reinforcements in, but i'd rather we got the right players rather than anyone just to bolster the squad.
The crazy thing is, Woodie encourage the spotlight to be on him with the "watch this space" interview, I am beginning to think he is some nerd-accountant that stumbled his way into one of the biggest positions in the world now he has a kind of small man syndrome and is not only embarrassing himself but the clue as well in the process.
Titles and Champions League places are won and lost by the 3 points we carelessly threw away yesterday.

I don't care what we pay for players as long as that doesnt influence who we are going for in addition to that.
We've been not very good in the market for a few years now, trying too much to find a jewel out of a bunch of worthless stones throwing money at them.
And yeah I agree. We need the right reinforcement. Just that we still need about 4 players and it's only 2 weeks to go!
The "watch this space" interview was utterly embarrassing. Even if we do have the money to spend "70m on one player" you don't fecking announce that to the world, it creates a terrible negotiating stance. And if we don't end up making major signings by the end of the window he'll look even more like an incompetent loser.

Just in case people weren't aware Exeter City were also under a transfer embargo, meaning they weren't even allowed to sign players. The embargo was lifted a couple of days ago and they have since signed a player.

He should be relieved of football related duties. His last quotes are backfiring against good name of Manchester United like son of a... It's not only RedCafe, it's also David May, Paul Scholes and whole bunch of other people from club circles who's showing an honest discontent in a public spotlight without hesitation. His competence should be strictly transformed to a financial director status. Nothing more nothing less. He's a grand business deal wrapper and a hero when it comes to sponsorship deal hunting and we're proud of him in that department but we're soulless machine when it comes to attracting world class players right now. Juan Mata should be just one of many football masters on the pitch against Swansea to be honest. We had two months... now it's two weeks and soon it's gonna be just a two days.

Lets face it - Woodward raised expectations about big transfers BEFORE all the STs were sold out. He is a con artist.
Feck it - we can't even buy 2nd tier players now? In 2 years we have turned ourselves into laughing stocks with no help needed.

Have we ever seen in the past a commercial Director/ agent (Successful or not) go on to be solely responsible for new players and the purchasing of them? Im not asking if it's been done well, but if it's been done, as I don't understand the reason we are trying to do this, would a doF command a ridiculous salary?
Regardless of any signings we may make before the window closes, it has to be said that seemingly, in comparison to our direct rivals, we do conduct ourselves like a bunch of Bronco Billies...

Remember when you said earlier that things were "going on behind the scenes" (regarding buying players) what were you talking about? None have arrived since you said that.

A DOF just makes too much more sense. This reminds me of Moyes who was learning on the job except not as bad given he actually was actually a good manager.
Thought we may here something today or tomorrow. Lets hope its tomorrow. You would have thought he'd realise potentially squad and fans need a boost now.

What does that actually mean though? Do we really doubt they are of a basic intelligence with common sense? Surely there is more than we know..
I doubt it. When Big Ed walks in the room wearing his pants on his head and tries to shake their hand using his foot then they probably know it's not going to be straightforward.
At this rate we'll have to completely revamp our transfer policy. Is it too dated for the modern game?
Woodward has done a great job in the past for the glazers and is clearly very good at other aspects of his job. We've followed a chief executive system for ages where it's one person doing all jobs combined including transfers. So Woodward for them was a natural choice. A logical choice. But as many have stated, he has no expertise or background related to transfers. While it's convenient for the glazers to go with him since they probably trust him, we could be better off with someone with a track record in this area.
It's not about common sense or competence. People give jobs/roles to people they are comfortable with/they like all the time.
Although I will make my final judgment of the woodman once this window ends.
I do wonder if they'll eventually bust a nut and overpay for Di Maria because he'll please the muppets and is a shirt-seller instead of a less sexy defender, who might actually go some way to fixing our problems.
I like the idea of the manager being in charge of transfers and I don't mind the idea of a DOF having a proper say/role either.
I think what would be ideal is for the manager to be completely in charge but someone with a track record of negotiations/football deals being the one sorting out transfers he wants done.

I think Di Maria to us is as good as done.. he is the 50M+ marquee signing Ed has craved for a long time.

He's gambling the club's future on the chance of saving a few million quid by leaving all our business to the last minute and pressurizing selling clubs to lower their asking price. He may come up trumps and be able to regale the Glazers with the amount of money he's saved them; or it may blow up in his face and leave United without the players we desperately need.
My guess is he's prepared to throw the dice.

We are the equivalent of someone going into a high end boutique with a fur coat trying to penny pinch at every turn....it does not endear us to the seller and makes us look trifling.
