Women's Pre-season - last mystery game now played

Its kinda funny that the argument against a womens team for so many years was that no one would watch. Now we have a womens team and we CANT watch!

Best of luck to the ladies for the season, hope to be watching at least a few matches on the TV.

 0-0

And I hope Sio C is okay. A month before our first competitive game and 6 weeks or so before the league starts.

While there is a really solid base to the team, injury could be its undoing and, with Chamberlain taken to hospital on a spinal board after a collision in the club’s first pre-season friendly against Liverpool on Sunday (which was abandoned at 0-0 as a result), the balance of Stoney’s side could be quickly disrupted and she may be forced to turn to her youngsters sooner than she hoped.

Worrying to hear that about Siobhan Chamberlain, I hope she's ok. What a tough start for the team as well, not the kind of first match experience any of them will be feeling good about.

The article in general made interesting reading, and it's correct of course. The squad is full of potential with very much the kind of players I was hoping to see, but when it comes to experience there's not much depth there. Hopefully the fact we're stating out in the Championship will give us the breathing space we need.

She's been posting on her instagram at least - but just a squad photo rather than training.. fingers crossed shes ok and it was just a precaution.

Hope it wasn’t a revenge tackle for leaving (joke). One of the two most experienced players out is not what this extremely young team needs. On the other hand, keeping a clean sheet will be a good start for a new back line letting in quite a few last year, most of them.

Though I can’t get over the fact that allthough not by shooting distance of the top for quite a few years yet, this team is everything that a United romantic - maybe disillusioned with the years under Moyes, Van Gaal and even Mourinho - can hope to dream about!

Young players, creative, attacking, ball-playing, and quite a few characters, under an ideologic leader with more than a bit of pragmatic experience in her belt as well. It reads like a classic football cartoon!

That's good. I'm glad United have sent out an official update.

She’s been with the team on their team building day today (and it looks like they all had great fun!)

I'm honestly looking forward to following this team. Alot of fun being able to follow it from the beginning. Hope they click quickly and have a great season.

Couldnt agree more. Hope theres a half decent turn out for them on their first competitive game. Maybe a few years from now the womens game will get more main stream attention, and match of the day will end up being on for 3 hours on a Saturday night .

Yep looks like they had fun indeed.

They also trained at Carrington yesterday.

If the club plays it's cards right, this could become a huge brand for them. Proper investments not just monetary but also through the cannels they use to connect to fans world-wide. They have the platforms in place and they certainly have the eyes of United fans all over the world. I hope they push this hard for more reasons than just football.

I genuinely think Manchester United will propel the womens game globally.

Also - can we watch their league games on MUTV? Can't wait to follow from Day 1.

So when the competition kicks off, what channel are the games on?

Hopefully we do push the game forward and in a few years we see some men and women combined XI matches.. even just for fun

Blackburn game was also played behind closed doors it seems, with the outcome yet again not available to the public.

I can understand some of the reasoning behind it (being a brand new team and all), but it's becoming a little frustrating.

In good news though, seems Jess Sigsworth scored the first ever goal for United!

It's frustrating! We think we understand the decision to go with this secrecy and all... But still frustrating.

Durham, Sheffield United, Millwall, clubs I think will be our main competitors in Women's Championship are having their preseason matches out in the open. Makes you think again why United are so paranoid with people watching them at a preseason match.

Also says “some” goals - sounds like we scored 3 minimum!

I can understand it. This isn't like all the other teams who have been together for some time. This entire squad was assembled withing the last 3 months, and they've had how much time together since then? 2 weeks? 3?

I'm sure any friendlies next year will be open.

Given the size of the US womens game it would be nice to see them go with the lads on whatever daft tour we're doing next year. Can only be good for everyone really.

Yes, that was what I was thinking. Of course that could just mean we lost 5-4 so maybe we're better off imagining our own versions of the pre-season instead. :smirk:

I'm actually really looking forward to their season starting. Really hope that we will be able to watch games in some manner

Women's football is different than men's. Most are in contract for a year only. So our competitors in championship all have relatively different teams than last season. Even some in WSL like Liverpool and West Ham. Still they are open about this.

I'm sure Casey and the team have good reasons for this, but yeah still sucks. No friendlies scheduled after West Ham, right? Hopefully because next matches are open so they are preparing for everything :).

Barca is doing this. Men's and women's are going together to US tour.

Right so if everything goes wrong next season I could just follow the women's team.

It's good to have options. :wenger:

Can anyone embed for me.. at least we know 2 different scorers!

I think it was Charlie Devlin.. was a great hit from outside the box. From what I can remember it wasn’t poor keeping either.
