Winter Olympics 2010 Vancouver

Does anybody know what the schedule looks like for quarters i.e. which of the seeded teams plays when?

All quarter finals are played on Wednesday/Wednesday night european time

Right, but who plays first (at 9pm CET) ? USA? Russia?

I'm just hoping Russia - Canada is either first or last game of the day so I won't need to stay up all night.

They haven't completed the schedule yet because there is matches played on Tuesday involving a place in the QF. Should be more info tomorrow.

USA play first at 9pm CET.

Russia-Canada starts at 01.30 AM CET.

I'd have thought that they've already set the schedule for QF as follows:

9pm : 1st seed - USA
1:30am : 2nd seed - Sweden
4am : 3rd seed - Russia
6am : 4th seed - Finland

But if that's not the case and the schedule is still flexible then hopefully Canadians will want to have their game in primetime which would be 9pm local time.

Shut it, Swedey! We work hard

I can't disagree with that. A Sweden-Norway QF would be fun but Slovakia should have no trouble with you. They are better at every position. So much for not caring about the Winter Olympics yet here I am second in posts in this thread after the crazy Caveman....

The last thing Canada would want is a 9 PM local time start, because here on the east coast the game wouldn't start until 1 AM.

And I can't really disagree with that. Hopes for the Slovakia game: Concede less than 5, score 2 or more. Expectations: Lose badly, score feck all :D

Team Ski Jumping large hill, and relay sprints for men and women coming up today.

I demand medals.

Sweden are probably favourites in both sprints. Austria are clear favourites in the team jumping, but Norway should be able to get medals in all three.

Yesterday was extremely disappointing though.

For the Swedes that know hockey on here:

Is Zuccarelo any good? Is he NHL material?

And also, some Noggie experts are saying that our line with Vikingstad, Thoresen, Tollefsen and Zuccarelo (I think) is also NHL material, is that so?

Zuccarelo is clearly talented enough to make it in NHL but he is one of those players that aren't good enough to be in the top lines in a NHL team and he isn't suited to be in a shutdown/checking line.... Very much like Thoresen that is in KHL now after trying his luck in NHL. Jaroslav Hlinka is another of those players, dominant in the Swedish Elitserien but struggled playing in a third/fourth line in Colorado.

Why is that though?

Because he is about a meter tall?

Who's Norway meeting in Ice-Hockey?

Forget it, I found out.

Yeah he is kinda small and NHL teams tend to prefer North American players in the checking lines. And to go from Elitserien straight into a scoring line in NHL you have to be sickenly talented/skilled. Let's use Mame Diouf as a example. Dominant in Norway but still a pretty long way from the United starting XI and has to bide his time and do well in the reserves/Carling Cup team before he might get a proper chance in the United XI. It's the same in NHL you don't make it unless you are a special special talent or work your balls off in AHL( NHL reserve league) and bide your time and hope you might get lucky and get a chance because of a injury.

Very much looking forward to all 3 events. The Austrian jumpers have looked less than convincing, with a bit of luck we could push them all the way. So could the Germans. Northug and Pettersen will be very difficult to beat, though I'm sure the latter will feck it up somehow. He usually does. Not too sure about the girls, Jacobsen isn't back to her best yet and...well....I've no idea who'll be partnering her. Falla?

It's a shame that the bottler Emil Jönsson is fake sick.

Thanks for the hockey info Richter, much appreciated. Is Jönsson really out?

Elliot, I agree the Austrians have been poor so far, but they've basically won everything this year, so I think they're still the team to beat.

Brun Lie is in the sprint together with Jacobsen. Talented pair, but Kalla and is it Falk? should be a better pair on paper.

The what now??

Anyway, team events today. Cross Country Team sprint and Ski Jumping Team Event. That's 1 gold and one bronze if we're lucky, two collapses if we're not. The pants are 1 up vs France at the moment.

I think our jumpers will bottle it massively but a bronze medal is not out of reach. We should really be able to fight for the gold in this event but we're nowhere near that at the moment.

If Austria doesn't win this then my whole life is a lie.

What?! Norwegian jumpers bottling it? WELL, I NEVER
