Though it'd be an idea to keep track of all the players we're linked with over the next couple of weeks, then found out the buggers at the official site are already doing it ;) ;

Fergie after today's match: "If we are going to do something, then we will do it as quietly as possible."

I'd laugh if it wasn't so near the truth.

Alex talking on transfer, some are cup-tied, some they don't want to sell, I have some ideas, but we'll just have to wait and see. Bit of a change in quotes from the last few days.

Who do you think are Fergie's primary targets?

You missed the crucial bit Neil. Some folk on here should take notes;

Fergie;
"People think we are just going to go in and pick any player we like, but it doesn't work that way. "

Sounds like he's finding it very hard to find available players, that the market has really slumped. Sounds like we can only expect youth signings if anything.

You're right Neil. I think he's either being very coy about it; he said the other day any deal done would be done "quietly". Or he simply cannot find the players.

I think the most likely transfers this January will be Chadwick to Everton, Quaresma replacing him from Sporting Lisbon, and maybe Ronaldo coming from them too - if not the latter, then Bellion for £500k but I think that would spell the end of Ole this summer.

as i said in another thread, i would not be surprised to see Fergie bringing in an experienced striker on loan till end of the season.
Batigol anyone? good for 6 months - 1 year.
that would give us a pool of 4 good strikers again.

given the quality of the crosses recently, i reckon Batistuta would score quite a few

Who's Eric Djemba Djemba? I never heard of him <img src="graemlins/houllier.gif" border="0" alt="[Houllier]" />

I dont think we'll see any activity this month.

Chadwick leaving is a possibility, but i havent heard anything about him.

Check out these results from a poll on the official site

asked which striker united fans would most like to see, the results were:

29.7% - Ronaldinho
29.4% - Shevchenko

only 7.7% said Cisse

I wouldn't say no. He's the kind of player who could work wonders from the bench for us. Bags of experience too.

I'm not being funny, but you have to remember a lot of United's world-wide fans will not have heard of Cissé (who hasn't made his mark on the world-stage yet).

Look at the differences between those results, and those from <a href="http://www.redcafe.info//ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=4&t=001528&p=" target="_blank">the poll we did on here</a>.

Cissé - 30%

exactly, and i reckon they could get him on loan.
he comes in, scores a few goals, gives us the opportunity to rest Ole,Ruud, and gives us the time to sweet-talk Cissee to join us in the summer.

We can't afford big name players in January - that much is clear. Chadwick said he'd leave if he didn't get played before XMas, and he wasn't given a chance, so he'll be off. Admittedly Ole is now a great backup to Beckham, and Davis can play right wing, but the link with Quaresma is a strong one - not sure of the timing of that move though. I think a loan signing of a striker would be a good idea, but since they'd have to come from abroad, would they settle quicker than Forlan? Would Batigol actually give a feck? I'd loan Lopez.

I've been watching my window religiously since i arrived at work this morning and not a single sign of a world class striker

Didn't Carlos deny all knowledge of that link though?

He said:
'The news that has come to light on that matter is pure speculation. It does not have any foundation to be able to circulate,' Queiroz told Portuguese radio station TSF.

'I cannot make comments on this. What I can say is that the stories are pure speculation. When this club is interested in a player it announces this interest officially.'

That last line is total bullshit, and with Fergie saying he'll play his cards close to his chest about who he wants, just after Kenyon said we won't sign anyone, and you come to the conclusion of not believing a word they say. ;)

Remember the Rio transfer, denied by all parties repeatedly to the extent that poor old Marching actually believed them! <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" />

Ridsdale hardly helped the matter. Cock.

Almost felt sorry for Leeds fans ;)
