Will we finish above Newcastle?

It is a ridiculous question because a season is 38 games. Our players had downed tools second half of season.

We will finish at worst 6th this season. Newcastle have nowhere near a good enough squad to finish 6th. West Ham, Leicester, Brighton all have better chances of finishing above Newcastle.

A big wallet doesn’t get you up the league. Players and managers do.
Not so ridiculous now, eh Chief?

As bad as the result is today I’m convinced we will still finish above them.

If Eriksen comes back and continues his pre injury form then maybe. The big issue for me is that when Rashford doesn't deliver nobody else steps up to fill the void. We've been far too reliant this Season of Rashford bailing us out.

Maybe we will, but we’re equal on points with 9 games to go, so it wasn’t a ridiculous question, as you and others claimed, that’s all I’m saying - it was a decent benchmark

Newcastle now have 3 away games so they’ll definitely drop points. 3rd is ours to lose Imo

I agree but I think the mere fact we’ve not got any “tough” away games other than Spurs and Brighton will mean we’ll pick up enough points. We’ve made old trafford a tough place to come and will win most of the games there.

They are very very solid and effective at what they do but I’m surprised how bad we were. Again we just have no striker - I can’t stress how much this ruins our chances every game - they have Wilson who’s a good of not elite attacker and don’t have their entire CM banned or injured.

Spurs & Brighton away = defeat
Now check Spurs and Newcastle fixtures.

We have 3 home games before our next away game at which point we should have a team with Casemiro, Eriksen and Martial in.

I think we’ll be fine.

Don't take Forest away for granted either

Hopefully with Cas and fingers crossed Eriksen back soon and if Martial can stay fit for once, then we should get across the line in 3rd with our fixtures. It's all dependent on those players being available though. We saw today that without them we are the same team as under Rangnick.

Who gets in?

Trippier and Pope for starters!!

Pope I’ll have as a debate and might the personal opinion, mine being swayed by my extreme dislike of De Gea but Trippier is a no-brainer! He is head and shoulders above Dalot and AWB. Even if it’s only on consistency

I don’t understand how Pope is better than De Gea. De Gea’s shot stopping is better than Pope’s. The criticism De Gea gets is his distribution with the ball at his feet. Well Pope is even worse with the ball at his feet! I don’t see what Pope offers more than De Gea other than being able to come for a cross from a set piece.

Trippier is the only one I agree with. Bruno G in the position he plays doesn’t get ahead of Casemiro.

So, as per my initial reply, what you said was complete nonsense.

I also didn’t mention Bruno G but I think he’d fall in to the category of personal opinion again. He might squeeze our Bruno for a starting position considering how poor he has been recently. I don’t think there is much between the two personally

Well you saying it’s “absolute nonsense” is a bit silly when there’s arguably only one player that can get in and even that is debatable amongst many due to trippier’s inadequacies defensively. You saying it’s utter nonsense like it’s a given multiple of their players would get into our team. Bit hyperbole.

Our chances of a top four finish are in severe danger. it all comes down to depth and tiredness. We shouldn't be chasing so many competitions with the same players. I would blow off FA Cup. We should have blown off Carebou Cup too.

Brentford is no pushover. Think this will be a hard match. Got to hope Moyes does us a favour

I was worried until I looked at their remaining fixtures, which on paper, look really tough.

Was just looking at the run in fixtures for us Spurs and Newcastle and Newcastle have a nightmare run in, only 2 home games remain including Spurs. Spurs are running out of games and finish up at Anfield.

Both teams face: Brentford, Everton, Spurs, Villa, West Ham, Chelsea, Brighton.
---
Newcastle face: Leicester, Leeds, Southampton, Arsenal.
United face: Forest, Bournemouth, Wolves, Fulham.

Not much between our run-ins except for that Arsenal/Fulham difference.

Yeah, we'll be fine. Dogshit on Sunday, only underlines how we're still inconsistent and lack depth beyond the starting 10 and a half. However, believe with Eriksen and Casemero back we'll be fine. You'd love to see Martial stay fit for the run-in, but I'd also love to win the lottery.

Ah, Richard Keys cheerleading for them today. Never bite the (hairy) hand...

Keys will support whichever murdering bastard regime can pay him the most. Good chance he'll be onboard with United next season.

Probably, but I fancy us to finish above Spurs anyway which would almost certainly mean top 4.

Its more important to win things...as long as United finish in the Top 4 then the owners will be happy, but finishing 3rd ahead of Newcastle is hardly anything the fans should give a shit about.

Top 4 plus either the FA Cup or Europa, will mean everyone is happy.

Just wondering if Sky will have cameras in the West Ham dressing room after the Newcastle game in case Moyes actually gets it right for a change?

Asking for a friend...

To be fair there are plenty of absolute stupid takes in this pitiful thread.

But this one made me laugh when discussing Newcastle:

Yes they won't keep up this form but we don't have the quality to put a big run together ourselves either because we're severely lacking in attack.

Sometimes people need to just not make predictions.

The bullshit at the weekend has made me wish we finish fourth above them and do an Arsenal and have a top four team pic in the dressing room and Ten Hag giving it the motivational biggun like he's Gene Hackman in HOOSIERS (1986).

It is indifferent to be third or fourth. More important is to win the Europa League to enter pot 1 in the next Champions League.

Our GD is just terrible again, so we need more points on the board than Newcastle. When Casemiro and Eriksen are back it could be much better for the run in. We still need to win these next 2 home games before they return.

I'm confused,

United have put a run of form together, only in the last three league games have we seen a drop,
Newcastle haven't kept their form up up til the last three games.
The response was to someone suggesting that United couldn't put together a run of form back before Christmas, something which we actually did.
