Whoever won the game
So we're nearing the end of the calendar year, sitting at the top of the table with an acceptable lead on our main challengers for the title. The team has shown it can function at full flow with our summer signings, Van Persie at their helm, having blended in the team wonderfully.

At the same time, our defence has looked shaky more than once as well as depleted in numbers (despite the amount of centre-backs available), while the central midfield seems to remain an issue in many games, though we are yet to see whether Kagawa or Anderson to a lesser extent can make up for that loophole.

The wings don't seem as sharp as they once did with Nani on his way out, and Valencia not making as much of a difference as he did in the past.

This begs for the question : will we buy in the January transfer window ? And if so, at which position?

I would say more than likely no - we never seem to spend when we are on top, only when we are behind.

If the money is there and the players are available then sure, but we havent really done any major business in january for the last few years.

I can't see why we would buy without selling personally and I hope at least we don't sell in January, wouldn't mind seeing a few kids move out on loan, other than that should be pretty quiet for us

Don't think we will buy, but I think Macheda will be sold and get Henriquez out on loan, was it talk of Wigan? Would like to see Powell out on loan too if a Premier League side wants him.

I don't think we will, but I do think Nani will be on his way. It's not like we'll need to replace him because he never figures as it is anyway.

If Nani goes, yes. But I don't think he will.

I think, given the options, if we signed a player for the first XI in January we'd likely regret it by summer, given the options that will then become available.

I'd be happier if Nani just signed a new contract. His absence is holding back the potential of our team. Even if he is to leave, then I'd rather it was in the summer after a contribution from January onwards.

The only way I can see Nani leaving in January is if someone comes in with an insanely high bid for him.

I don't think we will sign anyone. With the players either back or soon to be back from injury (Vidic, Smalling, Jones, Kagawa, Anderson and Nani) we look in good shape.

We could do with a top class central midfielder or two, but that's been the case for about 4 fecking years now so I'm not getting my hopes up.

The wide areas look particularly weak at the moment, but it's hard to make an accurate assessment of where exactly we are given we have rarely seen what Sjinji can do in such an area.

I doubt we will buy anyone in January unless Nani is sold.

If Nani does go, i think we will bring in a reinforcement because our wingers have been quite poor (especially Nani & Valencia) but Young has been playing much better in recent games so hopefully that continues.

Hopefully the Nani situation is resolved sooner rather than later and that he signs a new contract but i doubt he will to be honest.

Valencia, Nani, Young, Shinji.

Either out of form or injured. Dont see them being sold in Jan. If they are sold, then maybe.
But, wide areas surely not our areas of concern.

Can't see us buying anyone unless a summer target suddenly become available for a bargin. SAF has already stated we are not buying as well.

He might have been including the full-backs in there, and Evra regardless of his goal yesterday does not seem to be on the up for seasons to come.

Rafael is good enough on the right but he does not seem to be able to boast the fitness levels required to be a mainstay at that position throughout a season.

We were so lucky to have two full-backs as steadily excellent as Irwin and Neville over the years that Fergie might be a little less focused on reinforcing these areas although for me it is urgent as well, Evra won't be around forever and both Manchester City and Chelsea are on the lookout at that position.

Our full-backs are fine.

Hasn't he played more games than anyone else this season?

I was flabbergasted over the summer when Fergie ignored our 'midfield problems' and chose to pursue Hazard and Lucas. That decision now looks quite prescient as we look weaker out wide than in the center. We're still short, but Carrick and Cleverley show promise of developing into a good partnership, with Anderson at least demonstrating that he's the required quality.

I've never been completely happy with Valencia - too one dimensional - and I don't think Young is quite good enough to be a regular, so, if Nani goes, I hope there's a top quality wide player out there with our name on him.

That said, I fully expect Fergie to confound us all by bringing in two world class center midfielders in January. :D

Yes, 21 appearances. And coincidentally, as soon as we have both Jones and Smalling back, who can both play RB, he misses a game with injury. I wouldn't be surprised if he's been playing with a niggling injury for a number of weeks, and only told SAF once there was ample cover.

If we do, it won't be a first teamer.

This - we might see some movement in terms of youth players in as well as out, but nobody who will become an instant starter.

Even if the club are crazy enough to sell Nani in January, I don't see him being replaced as he hasn't been used basically at all this season so far - sadly his absence wouldn't be noticed :(

If we were low on attacking options without him then I'd like someone from the reserves to get a chance, but of course I expect the prime candidates for such a step-up would be out on loan by then. Surely there will also be a decision made on Macheda sooner rather than later.

To keep Nani would be important. Other than that, I can only see us buying of there is value in the market such as a certain Malaga player

Maybe our game against Madrid might tempt the boss into signing someone but then again they need to be available to play in the Champions League.

Real Madrid tie won't change Ferguson's stance. He'd never planned with two games on his mind and even if we do end up signing someone, chances are that player will be cup-tied or simply not ready to play against Real Madrid just one month after signing.

Ferguson has already said that there won't be any incoming transfers in January and I tend to believe him with that. Prices are very inflated, especially for players who aren't cup-tied.

In the Summer we might see some moves for a defender, central midfielder and possibly a winger (unless we move away to a non-winger formation, in which case we'd probably bring a forward - Lewandowski).

We'll be saving all our money to getting Ronaldo back.

We might sign a CB for the future (Smalling like tranfer) and thats all. Fergie loves long term planning so im.sure he has something in mind to replace Rio. Unfortunatelly cm.has been an overlooked problem for years now.

We already have Smalling Jones and Evans which would see us sorted for the next 10 years or so.
