Will we be ready for 6th August?

At min…..We need FDJ, a ball playing defender, A midfielder to compliment FDJ and either a left footed creative winger (most likely) or a striker (not available)…

From the players being mentioned….. the above 4 players will cost around 160-180m pounds!!

In terms of selling, we need to get rid of a lot of players and have a smaller yet better squad…

So in terms of players to selll:

Henderson (35m), ABW (20m), Baily (10m), B Williams (10m), Garner (20m…put a buyout clause if we are worried he is the next Zidane)…. Martial (20m), Jones (free), Telles (10m), Perrira (5m)…

Above selling prices are not ridiculous …. We just need people who can execute!!

Honestly I will ever add Rashford to the list but we probably only have him as a back up who can play as a striker (even though not a good one)..

I hope that by Christmas, ETH will have a team playing some attractive winning football.
With such expectations you are setting yourself (and influencing others) for almost certain failure.

I can't see how a radical change in playing style can happen with one transfer window (without even evaluating the current players) and half a season.

I expect real change in playing style in the beginning of next season.

We have got to be ready. Fixtures out on Thursday morning, hope we get first 6/7 over the line. so to give us a chance to knit together as a team.

I genuinely don't care. Realistic expectations for next season should be top 4 and a couple decent cup runs. We don't need and shouldn't expect to be 100% fixed by August 6th for that to happen, it will take at least a few transfer windows. If this summer we can bring in some of the players we need, regardless of if it's soon or by the end of the window, then that's good enough. The more important expectation this season is implementing a functional style of play, getting the most out of the players we currently have, developing youngsters and ditching players who can't or won't adjust. We will likely have to get back into the CL before we can attract all of the signings we need. Others will be holding out for better offers until the end of the window or until they see ETH's United in action before committing to the shit show we are at the moment.

Of course not. Wouldn't put it past the Glazers to wait and see what Ten Hag can get out of our current players in pre-season before they decide if they can be arsed spending money. They genuinely wouldn't sign anyone if they thought they could get away with it.
Agreed. I doubt we’ll sign anyone aside from De Jong if we win all our pre-season games.

Wasn't this why we bought VDB last summer for?

Hopefully, if we end up signing FDJ he won't end up the same.

Not a chance of being ready at this rate...

You will get a bit of stick, most probably for being negative, but I think you’re right. As it stands, City, Liverpool and Spurs have all improved their squads and we have done nothing, in spite of needing at least six players across the squad. Days are turning very quickly into weeks.

Need 5 maybe 6 for the first XI (RB, CB, DM, CM and either RW/ST)

We can only go by what we know and that is in recent years we’ve never been ready as we do our business ridiculously late so never ready to start the season how we’d all like. Can’t see anything different wuth ETH.

Ready to finish 6th, sure. Another insane season crammed in for reasons of money. Football has really lost me. I wonder how the PL can go ahead full steam with players worried about an upcoming World Cup though - usually they are playing hard towards the end of the season for prizes etc, but not this year. This may help Man Utd, a lot of the actual top players in the PL may be 0.5% off it while some of ours aren't going to be worrying about Qatar really.

Don't really care tbh, this is long term and my expectations are long term. I want to see change on the pitch, how we play on the ball and off the ball, movement, patterns of play, off the ball runs etc.

I would agree with this. ETH is not a magician and this will be the biggest test of his career. A lot of managers with pedigree have failed at Utd.

No we wont be ready. Its going to be a slow start, 2 steps forward, one step back sort of a season. So much change needed it wont simply happen with the arrival of some new players and a pre season training regime

How many more players are gonna post pictures of themselves doing weights?

We have Rashfird, AWB, & Amad so far.

I'd rather have pictures of them doing shuttle runs and long distance running considering how unfit they appeared to be on the pitch.

I'd rather see pictures of two of them in another teams kit.

On a serious note, our squad, amazingly considering last season was one of our worst ever has actually gotten worse, losing our only competent DM in Matic, Mata who is probably one of a handful of players in our squad that could implement what Ten Hag would want and as much as I disliked them both, losing Pogba and Lingard means that we've lost 4 first team players.

Posters will say to calm down, the window has only just opened, but fail to realise the point that you can talk to players before you register them and if our FDJ persuit is go by, then things really haven't changed, talking to one target at a time is not a way to conduct business.

3/5 teams that finished above us last season have strengthened further, whilst Chelsea have just gone through an ownership change and the other is Arsenal (even they've signed a youngster).

Pinning all our hopes on Ten Hag to perform miracles with a squad proven to be fragile babies who lack spines is a recipe for disaster, and we'll probably drop to midtable next season, actually looking forward to the world cup breaking up the season so United don't make me depressed for 9 months straight, a 6 week break would be lovely.

On a more positive note, guessing things can't get that much worse, and I'm sure Ten Hag will make us at least somewhat entertaining after next season, so at least I can enjoy some of the football we'll produce (once most of these players feck off).

Tin hat on here, but a strong leader of a manager arguably would have had us take more points that we did Jan-May, with the current team.

It’s evident that RR didn’t have any clout, and couldn’t get his opinions across in such a way that the lads played with any purpose (on many / most occasions)

We dropped points Jan-May in games that we should have won. I counted enough points dropped during these months (to teams not including the top 4), that would have had us on par with Chelsea in 3rd sport.

With that, if ETH is as good as we are all lead to believe, and he can get the very talented players to play to their potential… do we have as big of a rebuild as we think?

I think not.

That is a very realistic post.

Jesus that's a depressing thought when we have holes at RB, LCB, CDM and RW/ST as well
It’s just how it is with these owners. Even if we have a shocking pre-season littered with defeats and silly things like cancelled games (Mourinho’s first pre-season), I can only see three signings maximum. De Jong to replace Pogba, Timber and some attacker, probably one of Richarlison or Antony.

Its all over Twitter that Mason Greenwood is back in the squad for pre season. Anyone got any news?

How does anyone here know? It's hard to even have an opinion on, there are so many variables. All you can really do is look at recent history but even that isn't going to tell you exactly what's going to happen as they're all unique deals. The players we want and their situation, the selling clubs disposition, the number of signings that are needed to be considered "ready" - these are all things that I have very little clue on.

My feeling is the manager will probably want a number in place for the start of preseason as every manager does. Doesn't mean he's going to get all of them but if he's got a few key ones then you'd take that as manager and get on with it. I'm pretty confident 4 will get done for the season proper, once one or two get moving people will chill out. People have little patience after the bad season and because realistically they have feck all proper information on negotiations they tend to veer into the negative as a default state.

The club know we need signings, nobody wants to finish in the Europa again, least of all the money men.

New players don't need time to bed in if you don't sign any new players. Just saying.

Its as if you've taken the words right out of my heart.
As you mention, NEXT season and that literally means finding another whole other past time / obsession / sport / love. I am not ready to commit to more love for the team, seeing as being heartbroken for 12 years now. Who says men are not as longsuffering as women.

Top 4 is not realistic.
We are absolutely dreadful in almost every single area (GK and striker, excepted) and for us to get to top 4 level will take at least a season.
I expect top 6 next season.
Top 4 in ETH's 2nd season.
ETH fired in his 3rd season, because that's what we do.

Top 4 is a realistic target. Whether we achieve it or not will depend on how well the manager and players do. But Spurs and Chelsea are not out of reach of us, unlike Liverpool and City. 65-75 points is generally what's needed to make top 4, which even Ole managed to achieve.

Looking at City and Liverpool and the way they've already boosted their squads, I feel like we're being left further and further behind. Wondering if Richard Arnold is trying to emulate Ed Woodwards first summer in charge of the club. Yikes.
