Will the competition for players be weaker this summer than past seasons?

City have de jong, milner, barry, silva, nasri, yaya toure, david pizzaro and hargreaves who all play centrally

they dont need anyone but i suppose it is City

Pizzaro is on loan and won't be there next season, Hargreaves is a crock. De Jong is a fine defensive midfielder but offers no creativity, and he will most likely be sold in the Summer anyway. They will be left with Barry at the back of midfield, and plenty of creative force in Silva, Nasri and Milner but they could use one more midfielder of Toure's mould i.e. someone who could defend and attack, or someone purely defensive better than Barry.

1. Bayern and Inter really have no need for any. They ahve the talent to promote from with in.

2. Chelsea will need an attacking midfielder or 2. We won't be looking for one.

3. Real wont be buying more midfielders.

4. City might buy. But even if they did, they can't buy up all the type of players we might look at

All in all, I think you are being to pessimistic.

Bayern do have Schweinsteiger, Gustavo and Kroos plus probably some talented youngsters but who do Inter have? Cambiasso and Motta are their defensive midfielder right now and both are quite old and won't carry on for much longer.

Chelsea need someone versatile as well. Someone like Meireles, only younger. I won't be surprised if they sell Mikel in the Summer and Romeu is a strange case because if he turns out to be very good Barca will just take him back, if he doesn't he will have to be replaced anyway.

30m for an extremely promising talent is not that unresonable.

Football revenues have gone up significantly in the last 10 years and transfer fees have risen in line with this.

30m for Rio is like 50-60m now as proportion of United's revenue...

I think this could be a good year for us to invest in a high quality midfielder like Goetze, Hazard or even Modric (who would arguably be a better addition than either of these two). Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham are an inferior option for any young, talented player with star quality. Chelsea can still run us close because of their financial strength. But if they fail to qualify for the champion's league though, we would only really be up against city for any potential transfers that we were serious about.

Joel Obi, Andrea Poli, Coutinho, Lorenzo, Mariga (if they call him back), Guarin who becomes theirs in the summer.

What Chelsea need is an attacking midfielder above all else, one who can support their lone forward in attack. Probably even 2 wingers as they are likely to let Malouda and Kalou go. I also can't see them letting Mikel go when he and Romeu are the ones who cover for Essien's absences.
