Not a good game today, but that's okay. The talent is clearly there, there will be great things to come from him.

I would rather he kept the mistakes down and recognise when to express himself. Sometimes keeping it simple is what is required, rather than ceding possession needlessly. He can pick a pass aswell so he doesn't need to take people on continuously to be effective.

Don't think the Ronaldo reference is accurate really....Cristiano was far superior at running with the ball at the equivalent age.

I think the comparison lies more in the lack of fear when running with the ball/taking people on, Ronaldo was the better player at this age but still frustrating to watch at times and never reached greatness until his decision making improved, which is what I believe will happen with Zaha too. Whether he reaches the same level is debatable but I believe he has the potential to, alot depends on his character.

Looked very promising today. Lots of skill and confidence. With a bit of refinement he could be an excellent player for us.

Trying too hard. He'll do better next time to just keep it simple.

Looked like that didn't it?...Felt like he was desperate to do something special everytime he got the ball.

The lad clearly has the ability, he just needs to calm in down a bit and not feel the need to do a trick/step over everytime he gets the ball. It'll come.

He's exactly where I expected him to be at. Bags of ability, frustrating and inconsistent. He'll be used sensibly through the season to bring him on.

No worries.

You've all been banging on about how Young and Valencia don't do/try enough tricks and as soon as we buy a winger who does, you want him to stop?!

Madness.

It's the same old story really. People get angry at Nani for doing things too quickly, people get angry at Valencia for not doing things quickly enough. Can't win.

Its about knowing when to use a trick or a bit of skill, and when to keep it simple. Its not a criticism of Zaha that he's eager and trying to impress at every opportunity, its expected really.

This is nonsense, he did better than Valencia and Young of last season, what more could you ask for?

Love him already, going to be something special

He and Adnan are perhaps the most talented pair of youngsters we have had for a couple of decades or so. I hope we now bring Andreas Pireira through from the under 17's to the same level in the next couple of years, I think he is just as special, more so than Pettrucci perhaps.

Needs to know when to release the ball. Should come with experience and advice from players like Giggsy.

I must admit all I I know is what I've seen this preseason, so I'll have to bow down to your opinion on pereira, but I've not been this excited by a young player since scholes and becks played against galatasary in 93/94

Bad decision making, loads of talent. What I expected. Should improve over time, and if not, we've got a Walcott or Lennon on our hands

You are overly critical on him, a youngster who is in his first season in Premier league, which hasn't really kicked start yet. Ronaldo has had alot of frustrating moments for us in his younger years..

He's in the early phases of his transformation into a top winger. We're gonna see a lot more frustration from him mixed with moments of brilliance. I'm encouraged by the fact that he's showing so much confidence already. I'd rather have fearless players in his position than those who are afraid to express themselves. He's lucky that we don't have our full complement of wingers available yet. He's likely to get more opportunities to grow in our team from the start.

I'd rather he tries more in his younger years, even though that would means frustrating to watch at times. The last thing we want is another winger who plays like Young and Valencia of last season, who tend to try nothing, create nothing, and play it safe all the time.

Yet you get United fans who maintain that Ronaldo had 6 glorious years at United.

I'm excited by Zaha. He has so much enthusiasm for the game and I can't wait to see how he progresses.

He's going to develop fast, he has the physique and tricks, just bad decision making which will improve with experience.

If he works hard on and off the pitch he can be a world class player.

He is going to be a very special player. Got all the tools, just needs the decision making and that always comes with time.

Rooney and Ronaldo! ;)

What did he do?

Few nice cross, threat down the right hand side with his dribbling and pace, apart from that some bad decision making which is common for player around his age (even for young Ronaldo). It is not one of his better game but look at Valencia he couldn't even either cross past the first player or his cross land at nowhere at times.

A similar performance from Young or Valencia would've attracted nothing but criticism.

He was the best player on the pitch by a country fecking mile. Aside from the odd bit of clever movement from Giggs or turn from Welbeck, the only person who was offering anything, at all.

Might have helped if we weren't giving him the Valencia treatment of passing him the ball when already triple marked, and then not one team mate moving or offering themselves for a pass no mater how many times he cut back looking for one.

Also he limped off very slowly, which was concerning.

Young has never been good enough to be triple marked for an entire game in the first place. Valencia was substantially worse when he came on.

The problem was more the poor and pathetically slow service he was getting. Always into feet and never playing him into any space or in behind anyone...and then once Rafael went off, no one running off or beyond him either.

Jones was abslutely shocking at full back. From the stands it literally looked like he'd fallen asleep at times. Wigan didn't push up on that side for the entire game, so he should have been our biggest outlet by running off Zaha. He didn't do it a single time.

A very exciting young talent ... have a feeling he will develop very quickly and make an impact even this season.

Are you out of your tree?! Most talented pair of youngsters?!

I don't think I'm being critical. He made some bad decisions, which is to be expected.
I was saying even if he doesn't improve in that regard, he would still be a useful player in the same way Walcott or Lennon are

Indeed, this is what I was afraid of with Zaha after (it wasn't even the case today) a bad match. We often go on the caf from one extreme to another.
He has bags of skills and will learn to use them, we have to patient with him.

He really reminds me of Ronaldo back in the day.

Style wise before anyone gets sand in their vagina.

I really like Zaha but I don't think he'll get anywhere near Bale's level and I don't think he's shown anywhere near the level of raw talent that we saw in Ronaldo at a much younger age. Ronaldo was exceptionally frustrating at times but he had much more in his locker - great in the air, a great cross and a spectacular strike. Zaha has a similar level of flair and awareness for playing the simple ball but there's not much more to it than that so it's a really tenuous comparison for me.

This is Ronaldo against a Championship side in his first season. Above all the most marked difference is an outstanding touch and all-round technique - Zaha's not at that level at all. Yes he'll eventually make less silly decisions and he'll improve his finishing but the rest of the stuff - the touch, the striking, the aerial prowess - won't just magically develop to the next level. I can see him becoming the best winger in the league but I don't see any potential world-beater there.

I wouldn't pay too much attention to someone who spells his name 'Pireira' and doesn't seem to have clocked that he's already an U18s player at the very least (and a few outings at the end of last season suggest he'll be shifted up to the U21s this year).

That said, the kid is absurdly talented. Plays so far ahead of his age group.

Zaha was a little quieter today, but certainly looked like the same player we've been watching in pre-season. Still expecting good things from him this season.
