Wilfred Zaha on a freebie?

I’m seriously struggling to work out why he’s gone to Galatasaray. It seems like the weirdest of all the choices he could have made? Maybe he just really likes going on holiday to Turkey.
I’m sure I read his deal with Saudi Arabia broke down because he asked for too much money. And with Palace allegedly offering £200k, it seems so strange he’s gone to Turkiye where he’s almost certainly on something similar to what he was at Palace!

They made him the focal point of attack and the whole team accommodated him, yet he only ever hit 15 goals in a season once. They were also paying him 130k a week as well, so he's just never been worth what he valued himself at.

You're definitely being overly critical. He's been their best player for close to a decade. It's been the complete opposite of the team accommodating him, instead the team have been completely reliant on him to produce in the final third. So much so he was asked eventually to play through the middle rather than his preferred place on the wing because the numerous centre forwards they brought couldn't produce enough (Benteke, Batshuayi, Edouard, Mateta, Sorloth, Ayew and others before thise). Zaha has consistently scored as much as the rest of Palace's attacking players put together, and on top of that is an outlet with his dribbling and gets a fair share of assists. They would have been relegated if they didn't have him, so I'd say he's more than earnt his salary numerous times over for what he's done for Palace. Premier clubs relegated spend £15-25m sums on strikers who can't hit a barn door in the PL in a desperate attempt to stay in the division, and that's before wages. Benteke cost Palace £30m, so before wages that's the equivalent of roughly 120k a week just on the transfer fee. And he scored less than Zaha, despite being an actual centre forward. And Benteke has been a relative success compared to the vast numbers of strikers who join lower half and mid table PL sides for big transfers fees and don't cut it.

I don't know why people are so dismissive of Zaha. Whether it's a personality thing with Zaha, or because he didn't make it at United, or because United fans tend to misinterpret stats/performances of players in sides at the lower end of the table. Probably a combination of all three. But ultimately he's probably Palace's best ever PL player, and for close to a decade has been one of the best players for a non top 6 PL side.

Yea, really odd one.

He can do better football wise and lifestyle wise. He's a good player and could have picked most clubs outside of the top 3 or 4 in each country.

He hasn't consistently scored, that's the point. People overhype him because he's explosive, good dribbler a tricky. His output for what he has been paid, is objectively crap. You can't strawman me with the "misinterpret stars/performances" considering in a subsequent post mention players who've performed better in goal contributions than him, for lower table sides.

You also mention Benteke being a flop - which he was, but he still has scored more goals in the prem than Zaha.

The only reason he gets held up as a decent player is because he's the only bit of flair in a workman like team. No one was ever willing to break the bank for him, because he's never been worth it. He's literally just left on a free transfer, not a single premier League team was interested and has ended up in Turkey. You can say he's one of the best players outside of the top 6, yet no prem teams agree with you.

Never ever good enough for United. It’s so weird how a portion of this fanbase has had an obsession with him, every summer asking if we should bring him back. He’s 30 years old and has had an extremely uneventful career, decent as he is, he just isn’t it. Even now, with this thread about bringing him in on a free. Somehow I suspect even him now confirmed gone to Galatasary it won’t stop people talking about him as being an option after he probably does pretty well for them. Frankly I find it completely bizarre.

Could have been worth a 12 month contract here. He’s better than Elanga and we all know Martial will miss a minimum 6 months this coming season he could have helped cover both spots as a squad player

Bizarre that he’s gone to Turkey

He’s been linked with loads of top teams over the years but Palace always over priced him. He was linked to PSG just weeks ago and apparently turned down an offer from Lazio who are in the CL.

Weird that he’s gone to Turkey I must admit but if you’re trying to say he’s not good enough for the PL that’s just wrong

Nah, you're so far off it's ridiculous. And, laughably, the sheer arrogance that comes along with your drivel. Was gonna rip your post apart but you come across like a complete arsehole I see no reason in even attempting a reasoned debate with you. The stupidity and snideness leaps out from the page so viciously that I can smell it.

Nothing wrong with the tone of his post at all, mate. I think you might be having a bad day.

Sure, but when you see people are willing to break the bank for Rice, Grealish, etc it doesn't seem to matter in those instances. If he did turn down Lazio, I am even more surprised.

I'm certainly not saying he's not good enough for the prem, because he quite clearly is. I didn't mean to come across as me saying he's shit - he's just overrated and overpaid.

, ok mate. Apologies if it came across that way.

He wanted over 200K a week I’d rather keep Elanga to be honest

That sounded like a completely normal post to me.

Amazed he turned down Lazio.

Playing under Sarri would've suited his style and they're in the CL aswell.

Maybe he didnt want to get abused by some Lazio ultras. They are really some of the worst ones. I guess some players will factor this.

Not sure it would have worked for either party tbh.

If he was coming here it was as a depth signing. He's already come here and got little playing time, why would it make sense to do it again?

At 30, he is going to want to come in somewhere as a starter. That's not here.

I bet he’s not on 200k at Galatasaray but yeah if that’s what he was asking to play here I’d have turned him down as well
