Why Silvestre could go...

You just need to consider how difficult it is to get a player better than Micky, then you will know why we should try to keep him if possible. Maldini is too old; Lizarazu and Carlos won't be sold by their current clubs; Risse, Cole and Bridge will only be as good as Micky AT BEST.</strong><hr></blockquote>

Lizarazu too is to old. And to buy a player from Scouse or Arse seems a no go.

So IMO, of those players mentioned only Bridge could be a United player next season. I really hope Micky does say.

BTW, France would've been much better off with Silvestre in there instead of Lizerazu over the past two weeks. His pace and ability to push forward would've been beneficial in creating chances for the French, especially with Henry, Pires, Zizou out. Lizerazu is a better defender, but ultimately it was a lack of goals that sunk the frogs.

Riise is about as good as Ian Harte when it comes to defending. He's got a hell of shot, which is only good asset imo. Bridge still has alot to prove.</strong><hr></blockquote>

What makes you say that? He's been decent for us when he's played left back...

Could be. I just view him as a good attacker with a cannon of a shot. His defending has never really stood out when I've seen him.

Better than Riise, who is also comfortable at LM?

Better than Ashley Cole, who plays as a wing back most of the time from a flat back 4?

Better than Bridge, who's excellent pushing forward even for a "lesser" team..

I don't think so, tho I do agree that he is very good coming forward....just that there are others who are better</strong><hr></blockquote>

Yes, certainly better than all those three at over-lapping and getting crosses in from the left

His defending however is another issue altogether

He's more likely to use his pace to beat a man and get a cross in than Riise or Bridge..but his final ball isn't as good and he isn't much of a goal threat himself...

The fact that he was among the players with most assists last season must have been pure luck then  </strong><hr></blockquote>

Yeah he must have had a fair bit of luck for that to happen!!

Do you think he's better going forward than Riise, Cole and Bridge?

And will you be happy if he goes to Spurs for 4m?
;)

It's always luck when it comes to Man United, ain't it..?

I think he's as good going forward, if not better, than Riise, Cole and Bridge - as evident from last season.

I don't want us to sell Mickey, especially not for £4m only.

Not at all?

Perhaps you should play him left midfield then? After all he's better than Riise at going forward...and even you Mancs don't rate him defensively

He of course wants to play CB, where he can make full use of his attacking skills, and not have to worry about his defensive frailties...

;)

He could be an option in left midfield when Giggs is out. He was a midfielder as a youngsters. But he's more effective coming from deep positions attacking the space in front of him, and/or linking with the midfield to create two against one situations.

Yes I know, Riise is often the same...

HSilvestre and Ziege will be a useful attacking option next year... ;)

Anyone who says Cole / JAR or Bridge were better going forward and setting up chances last season can explain these stats:

Silvestre = 6 assists from 33 Premiership appearances
Cole = 5 assists from 28 Premiership appearances
Riise = 5 assists from 36 Premiership appearances
Harte = 4 assists from 36 Premiership appearances
Bridge = 2 assists in 38 Premiership appearances

Only Le Saux and Ziege had more assists from LB in 2001-2002.

The joy of stats eh? They always tell the full story

Hey look, Silvestre has more assists than Veron!

He must be better going forward and more creative.. ;)

I was just proving your comments stating Riise, Cole and Bridge as better at creating chances than Silvestre are totally unfounded. ;)

They're not unfounded tho are they..how about goalscoring, thats a part of attacking as well

I happen to think that Silvestre is very good at joining the attack...just that there are others who are better..

No, you've just changed the subject. You said Riise, Cole and Bridge were better at setting-up chances, nothing about goalscoring. I proved your point wrong, but I agree Riise is a far better goalscorer than Micky, and a better striker of the ball. ;)

Did I now?

No, I said they were better going forward...

You proved nothing, apart from the fact that you struggle when reading.. ;)

Riise is a midfielder is he not? Forced to play LB sometimes.

Silvestre is a revelation going forward, he is almost as good as Carlos. He beats defenders better than Giggs does when Giggs is having one of his "down" days. I dont see him as a midfielder though. He doesnt have the poise or ball skills, he is better at surging runs from defence, like Campbell.

However I dont care how good he is, if he keeps saying stuff about Fergie and how he wants to play at another club - he can go.

Riise sees himself as a LB but has played LM a lot this season yes.

And yes Silvestre is mouthy ain't he?

;)
