Why do we have so many unlikeable players?

Fairly straightforward. Because they are mostly dogshit at their jobs. Winning a lot improves likeability.

Good talk. Thread closed.

I dislike some of our fans far more than any of the players

What are we talking about here with 'unlikeable'... off the pitch or on the pitch, in terms of personality or performance?

Not sure if likability off the pitch is of much use, if on pitch they cannot deliver.

Petty personality displays on the pitch can be grating, if like Bruno does when he gets all 'frenzied up', after one of his non-events, but performance wise even when his passes go astray etc. he still puts in the 'hard yards', if there is one player in United's team that keeps on chasing it's more often than not Bruno.

Antony drives me mad with his reluctance to go outside the full back/cross a ball from the dead ball position, by now every body knows he just uses his right foot for standing on, but when one of his far post 'curlers' comes off or he leaves a full back for dead with a foot roll over the ball I am cheering like mad along with everyone else.

Rashford annoys me just now, he looks like he is not bothered, but we are told it's because he has to play in a position, not that he doesn't like, but one he cannot play in the way the team currently requires the central striker to play, so he just amble's along, infuriating for fans when players make excuses for being in the side.

Players whose performance is consistently focused throughout a match, first minute or last, and shows a determination to compete are always likeable, Martinez fits that bill perfectly.

Generally its the 'unlikeable' quotient off the pitch that throws up problems for many fans and we all know who is currently in that position.

I concur with OP, struggling to like any of our players. I think it's the lack of a proper (and I mean proper) leader and captain.

We need a borderline crazy captain like Keane or Gattuso to fire up the rest.

Wasn't there a thread about how many likeable players we have recently? 2 games in and we need a complete rebuild, everyone's a cnut and Woodward needs to return.
We like them when we win and dislike when we lose.

I’m not trying to be a dick, but the ‘bad body language’ thing always seems to be aimed at a certain ‘profile’ of player, if you catch my drift. I noticed this in the past, but now I’m starting to wonder if it’s more than a coincidence.
I’ve been saying the same thing for years.

Because we ain't winning. If we start to play better and win games suddenly these player will become more likeable.

As if fans would have liked Keane, Beckham, Scholes, Cantona, Rooney, Rio, Ruud, Vidic, Stam, etc. if they had hardly won anything.

Another body language master
Why is pretending body language isn’t a thing a thing? If someone mopes around in any other job there’d be questions asked too, especially if performances aren’t up to standard. Nevermind one where you’re stood in front of thousands of people who’ve paid to be there.

Looking like you give a shit goes a long way. Lisandro, Fred, Bruno...even Antony's probably had way more credit in the bank than his performances merited, and it was solely due to his work-rate.

I’m not trying to be deliberately divisve, but how many white players have we had with alleged ‘body language’ issues?

Shaw is the only one I can remember. If the others are visibly upset, it's because they care.

Yep. People being shrieking hyperbolic banshees once again.

Of course it's a thing, but unless you are a psychologist / psychiatrist with studies in the matter then don't bother otherwise you are just speculating.

Maybe OP has studies in body language, then I'm sorry for laughing.

Yup.

Not really, considering humans are alright at picking up nonverbal cues. You wouldn’t turn up on your first day at a new job and mope around. It’d leave a bad impression because you’d seem disinterested. So why wouldn’t it when you’re in front of thousands of onlookers?

Oh didn't you know? Only black, Muslim or foreign players show poor body language on the pitch. I didn't want to make it about race, but when the OP decides to bring up two ex-players who just so happen to be black then I had to bite.

Can we just agree that if we play well and win, we love our players more than our families, and if we lose, we want them all to die, especially because of their body language.
