As the rumours get stronger, my greatest fear looks more like it might actually be realised, i.e. James will be coming to OT to replace Barthez!

Are the French Gods punishing us for questioning Barthez by implanting in Fergie's head that James will be the best thing in OT since Schmeichel?

By the fact that he's now taking over Seaman as England No 1. looks to tilt in his favour.

Stay back Barthez, I say - forgive those of us who doubted you, but no James please!!!

Will the rest of you prefer James over Barthez instead?

Fabien Barthez for sure, who wants to have a scouse reject at our club, I still don't think James is good enough, what is so good about the flapper.

james has improved no ends and has erased the erraticness that both he and fab had.I think james could still go on to be on of the best gk's in the world.he is also england's number one which must encourage fergie.

He's old!And do u expect Man Utd to compete with others in the next coming CL with James playing as No.1 for us?Then I shall suppose Barthez to keep playing for us if Fergie is planning it!

James easy.
If Utd buy him, thats good enough for me. Fergie knows what he is doing(like always)

I'm happy with Barthez but I would have no problem with James, I think he's gotten a very unfair reputation that has stuck despite his improvements.

ill prob get stick for saying this BUT James has made less mistakes than Barthez over the last 2 seasons. And he was behind a defence which gave him more keeping practice than Fab.
Personally i think DJ is a good keeper BUT he's ex dipper so im not sure about that

Barthez is better than james, i would only want to see barthez leave if a younger keeper became number 1 really build for the future

Normally, when it comes to Scouse rejects, I wouldn't take any of them. But, if I had a gun to my head I would prefer Friedel to James. But is Friedel any better than Barthez? And why we are linked to the keeper of the third worst team in the premiership is beyond me!

The topic itself is a joke, as are all the people who believe we are going to get James.

So it's Robinson, then James. Who's next? Ian Walker?

i see we are looking at neville southall!!

and we are saying!

look at that fat scouse pie eating cnut!!!

You may laugh at him now. But he was feckin' invincible in the 80's and probably the best in the world then. Not that that stopped Big Norm from curling the ball past him though. Sweeeeet.
:D

Yeah, but when Fergie first signed Taibi, did you say the same 'If Fergie buys him, that's good enough for me' then 4 games later, when he was dropped forever, what was your comment? ;)

So you're very, very sure that United will not buy James or Robinson? Are you further suggesting we're not buying any keeper for next season?

ps - we're only speculating & giving our opinions, like all footy fans - if we didn't have opinions, this forum won't exist, will it? ;)

Well, other people are allowed to post jokes you know - you don't have the monopoly on it.

There's been speculation, and it's a perfectly valid subject.

Barthez for me any day.

Barthez. I only want Barthez to go if Kahn agrees to come to United.

Well, I am damn certain we'll never ever sign James.

How about Sander Westerveld?

One of the most stupid decisions made letting him go.

If Fergie was a fan of players like James we'd be talking about 36 years without the Championship now.

yeah Fergie may be a big fan of James because James effectively gave the title to us when he was playing for Liverpool.

When James played for Liverpool he helped them lost the title. When James played for West Ham he was part of the worst defence in EPL.

And what is the point to give up Barthez, if what we do then is to sign another clown? Have Manchester United become a circus now?

That's why I think we have no chance to sign him. There are 1000 goalkeepers better than him in Europe.

Yes everyone can have his/her own opinion about who we should sign here. However looking at some of the opinion here I can't help but sigh "what are they thinking about!"

If we really give up Barthez (who is a world cup winner and undoubtedly a world class goalkeeper), that's because we are going to buy another one who is even better and more stable than him.

But what are some people suggesting here! James? A clown who is error-proned and never one of the best goalkeeper in EPL, let alone in the world. Robinson? A highly overrated fat English goalie who "may" do well many years later but is now unable to beat Seaman and James to get his place in the England team.

Are you HONESTLY think that they ARE the men to play in front of the goal for us? They ARE the men who can bring the CL trophy to us next season?

Sigh.....

Dont sell Ince, dont sell Kanchelskis, dont let Gillespie go in exchange for Andy Cole!

Top Class!

And the "another clown" comment lets you down!

thats unfair on the keeper. The WestHam defences main problem can be described in one word: Repka David James has been one of the most consistent keepers over the last 2 seasons, otherwise he wouldnt be in the England squad. He's ahead of Robinson in the pecking order for his country.

Sorry but I think both James and Robinson are bad. Well may be not that bad but certainly not the kind of world class goalkeeper we need. They are in the England squad not because they are too good, but because their competitors are too bad. Any English goalkeeper can get into the England team now, if he is better than Seaman and Ian Walker(!). Which isn't really a high standard, is it?

Can you count these "world class" goalkeepers on one hand? FFS!

So what's your point? It seems you are only objecting everything I post without giving your own opinion at all. You think it's a good idea to replace Barthez with James?

I do not object to everything you post, but you are so bloody negative, and hardly ever give valid reasoned arguments. No, James is not any better than Barthez, but he is no worse.

You talk about "world class" goalkeepers, who? Come on, who do you want?

You are talking a lot of money here, yet you also dismiss the selling of any player to fund this. COME ON, who, and how is it going to be paid for?
