Who will be this seasons scapegoat?

Antony, even if he comes good he'll get the Nani treatment for every off day.

Could be Antony, but it will be Sancho. It's a sink or swim situation for him, on position he's not exactly fully familiar just yet.

Still optimistic side tells me, he'll link with Hojlund just fine, perhaps including Antony too.

Casemiro if his disciplinary issues leave us in a pickle like they did last season at a crucial point in the season.

I love him and he’s a great player, but there are signs he’s slowing down a little and that’s only gonna result in more late challenges and unnecessary lunges.

Casemiro. Seen it starting on Twitter already.

Rashford too if he doesn’t repeat last seasons herioics.

Have a feeling that Garnacho will go a similar way to Greenwood. He will continue to show promising displays but will be called greedy and start to frustrate a vocal minority of fans. This will begin to filter into the discourse, and over the course of the season, Garnacho will end up underrated. Just like what happened with Greenwood.
You mean like it was with a 19 year old Ronaldo? Even fans i. The Stratford end were getting frustrated with him in first 2-3 seasons.

Yes, there’s a portion of fans, probably a slightly older demographic like my dad who pretend to like flair, but wince and get annoyed at the first signs of it not coming off.

Season hasn’t even started and it’s already Harry. Even though he’s not going to be a starter, it’ll be somehow his fault. Can’t believe it’s big news a keeper shouted at him in a friendly, Pally & Bruce got it every single game big Pete played behind them.

Harry. When he goes anyone else who makes three mistakes in a match. Wish I was frigging perfect

We have to differentiate between actual poor performers and scapegoats here. I reckon Antony will be a scapegoat, but I can see a couple of genuinely poor performers who will be backed to the hilt for whatever reason.

We could instead just not have one. Be better Redcafe

Many candidates.

Rashford: If he doesn't replicate last season's goal tally.
Antony: If he fails to step up.
Højlund: For not being Kane.
Mount: He's very vanilla.
Wan-Bissaka: He simply isn't good enough.

Special mention for Onana, who after every goal he concedes will be criticised for not being peak De Gea as a shot stopper. Also, some will refuse to acknowledge that De Gea is no longer that calibre of shot stopper.

According to Gabby Agbonlahor (if you remember him!) it's Onana for shouting at Harry. :D

I think it will be one of Onana, Hoijlund, Antony or Sancho.

I'm going with Rashford again, given the comments in the matchday threads.

It's hard to blame him but directly but there's a lot of matches where we were winning but couldn't exert control to see out matches. The opposition would press us a bit and we'd fall apart while hoofing the ball and giving up possession. If that changes, we have to defend fewer chances and drop fewer silly points. A title challenge becomes a real possibility.

Rashford will be this year's scapegoat, he has a long line of people rooting for him to fail
Rashford will hopefully have a great season especially after signing that new contract.
Oh god I hope he really does justify that contract.

I think Rashford and Antony are going to be it if we struggle to score. Højlund might get a beginners free pass.

Casemiro, if he starts this season like he finished last season, then I can see people calling him out quickly. I think he's still a massive influence for us, but his game time needs managed. He's had a season now in PL, he knows the pace, the physicality, as much as we like his physical presence, he needs to stop diving in so much. Silly cards cost us.

Easy, old faithfuls will be the defaults: Sancho, Wan-Bissaka, Bruno (only to a certain degree, and his defenders will ward off the attacks with aplomb), Rashford (every poor game, his contract will be brought up).

Of the new guys: Mount (some have already decided not to give him the chance to prove himself), Onana (after a costly mistake or two, then De Gea’s name will be drawn out).

Dark horse: Casemiro. After being overplayed to the point of exhaustion, at which point mistakes will creep into his play until he’s rested.

So, just to conclude this thread: A tie between Casemiro and Antony?

Seems like Antony and Casemiro. Bit ridiculous stuff happening in those threads.

A scapegoat is someone who is blamed for others' wrongdoings or mistakes. Many mentioned here were the biggest culprits.

The obvious:
sancho
antony
casemiro
Onana
Rashford
