Ralph Milne is up there, so is William Prunier.

Still could be worse, could of paid 11m for them....

I thought Prunier wasn't bad. He did okay for a chap thrown into the deep end of the first team.

not even close
nobby

During Fergie's time its a close call between Fat Ralph Milne and Taibi.

Stick around Penfold. You'll find he has something against most players at the club

Alan Brazil and Terry Gibson from the fatkinson days stick out as uterly shite players - plus some incredibly crappy center back Mark ??? that was signed at the end of the 85/6 season - laughably bad. Ralphie was better than these guys anyday - you can't say he actually lost us any particular game. All these three did week in week out.

Prunier & Taibi were not given any chance - Taibi only had 4 games after a then World Record 4.5 mil pounds transfer ( for a keeper ) from Venezia. ( From World's most expensive to 'ZERO' in 3 weeks! ) Taibi had only 2 matches! ( to be fair, he was on trial only & United decided not to sign him.)

I wud rate Terry Gibson & Danny Wallace amongst the worst, more so because they were expensive flops!

PS - oscar74, were you talking about Mark Higgins from Everton?

Yup and im guessing ur one with the Houlier smilies u used.

Yes Higgins is the name - I still have nightmares about watching him hack at air in the spring as our glorious start that year turned into abysmal failure. Alan Brazil still probably my "favorite failure" though. He just looked so pathetic as he would sprint onto a long ball knowing that he was about to balloon it into the Stretford End. Also to my knowledge the only Utd player to be spat at by his own fans as he warmed up - not one of our proudest moments - but an accurate relection of his skill.

And I was at the game just after that was in the paper...

The rapturous applause by the crowd as he came on as sub said a lot about what the true United fans thought about the low lifes who spit at their own players...

Karel Poborsky was pathetic for United. All that long hair flapping aimlessly around as he did the same. Unfortunately when I see Diego I get a dreadful feeling of deja vu - a lot of running around with no end product.

I hope we won`t be writing Diego`s name on such a topic thread in the future. :( :( :( :(

Yes - against Arsenal - was a great volley from the corner of the penalty area - I was in the Stretty at the time - whole place went wild. Was 1st game of the 1989/90 season - The Arse were champions - Michael Knighton was introduced to the crowd as our "next" owner and did his famous ball juggling act - we won 4-1 - and for Neil Webb it was downhill from there..... Webb was a bust but still nowhere near our worst player.

For those of you too young to remember the Pre Fergie years many of our better players from this time wouldn't get a seat on the bench (with the obvious exceptions of Robson, Coppell, Buchan and maybe Macari)). The worst players were quite simply embarrassing - Poborsky, Blomquist, Taibi don't even come close. none of them actually "cost" us anything in terms of titles - they were carried by the team and then got rid of.

Well said and good question!! <img src="graemlins/devil.gif" border="0" alt="[Devil]" />

Massimo Taibi?

My team and how many were Ron Atkinson buys...?

1. Paddy Roche
2. Colin Gibson
3. Johnny Sivebeck
4. Bosco Jovanovic
5. Graham Hogg
6. William Prunier
7. Ralph Milne
8. Alan Brazil
9. Gary Birtles
10.Peter Davenport
11. Jesper Olsen

Neil Webb scored a thunderous volley in 1989 against Arsenal in a 4-1 victory on his debut. The day Michael Knighton came on to the pitch juggling a ball in front of the Stretford End.

Some of them were decent, Gibson, Hogg & Olsen for starters.
Id replace them with Ashley Grimes, Mal Donaghy & Liam O'Brien. Id put Terry Gibson in their for Davenport aswell.

manux399,

Prunier was on trial & played only 2 games!

Olsen was also a very good player & was very close to Gordon Hill for skills! ( 24 goals in 176 games as a winger )

Davenport had a decent run after a disastrous start. ( 26 goals in 127 matches )

Colin Gibson played almost 100 times for United, scoring 9 times in 5 years under both Atkinson & more so for Fergie - not bad for a full-back.

I'm surprised he's on your list - perhaps you mistook him for striker Terry Gibson ( 1 goal in 26 appearances )! ;)

I wudn't argue with the rest tho.

massimo taibi...
the match against southampton..
poor keeping..

I'd vote for Massimo Taibi ... I was at Old Trafford when that blooper happened against Soton.

I can't believe some of you actually picked Olsen as worst player. I liked Olsen :(
