Who is the most unplayable player ever ?

Can't stand him but Le Tissier had one glorious season.

Not comparing him the those in the OP obviously but will remember that golden hot streak.

Good shout. Hated playing against Southampton with him in the side.

Also for the record I think “unplayable” for me means: there’s no way to really stop the player, he’s going to pretty much do whatever he wants when he wants in that match and it’s really just luck if you manage to keep them quiet.
Good thing you added that, otherwise you were describing the unplayable GOAT of dribbling: Denilson.

Shame he was completely toothless and thus quiet by design.

Running down the clock in a World Cup SF

Outside of the very obvious ones, Aaron Ramsey first half of 2013-14 was ridiculous. Literally seemed like he couldn't do anything wrong. Plus was killing dictators/goal before that.

I'll go with a player not mentioned yet but obviously most in here are all solid shouts already:

Late 90s/early 2000s Bergkamp. Man seemed to be able to pop up anywhere and make some magic happen.

Iniesta, at his best he was basically impossible to disposses, dribbling in tight spaces was second to none, and he was usually at his best in the biggest games, in these games he was a match-winner too, important goals and assists.

At their absolute peak? Kaka. Made a fool out of our top defence and midfield as if he was an adult against kids in a playground.

Left field, but Duncan Ferguson.

Especially under Joe Royle at Everton. You couldn't beat him in the air. Best hope was to not bother trying and just drop off to pick up the runners instead. Not thinking of scoring goals but mainly those long ball punts downfield, he won literally everything.

He was unplayable - if you were trying to break into his house without him noticing.

Messi, is the answer. Most consistently unplayable ever from my time following football anyway.

On his day, Ronaldinho was pure magic and untouchable as well.

Special shout out to Fellaini with his chest control

Rory Delap, Peter Crouch and Fellaini as a target man were all unstoppable in certain scenarios.

Couitinho in Liverpools 2016/2017 campaign was a special player.

Shame he was also a special bellend

The original Ronaldo in 96-97 before injuries started taking their toll on him. Unstoppable. Guys were barging into him, pulling his shirt, tripping him to no avail. He just kept running towards goal like a Terminator. Power, pace, dribbling and an accurate finish.

Marco van Basten.

They literally kicked him out of the game. His ankle was so damaged the doctors had to hold it together with some titanium.

In the PL I agree with all the obvious one but will throw these 2 in the mix as well.

Mahrez for Leicester when they won the league 2016.
Michael Owen 1998.

I think in the sense of 'on his day, he's unplayable' Hazard and Neymar are second only to Messi and R9 from the players I've seen live

It might be because I was a kid at the time, but I don't think anything will ever compare to Ronnie. Genuine felt like he could pick the ball up anywhere on the pitch, dribble past the entire other team and score every single time, and there was nothing anyone could do about it

Gigi Simoni's famous revolutionary tactics of "give the ball to Ronaldo, then get ready to hug him" was so funny because it felt true

Consistently I would say Messi. Sporadically and at his highest peak, Zidane is the most dominant player that I have seen.

Zizou was fantastique, but I would never see him as a player that is constantly managing the tempo of a game, having the ball most of the time, in the way I've seen other similar players to him in perhaps a more suitable way to describe being dominant.
He has many great matches where he gave constantly air to his team, where almost every intervention (even if not being clinical), was unplayable in the sense of having the ball without loosing it whenever he has it, in that sense he had many instances were he looked unplayable.
Yet I woudln't use the word dominant with him. That word it's more suited for me with Platini for instance, at times in some matches, he was everywhere, doing everything at the highest level.

PD: Messi neither was dominant in lots of matches, where he was unplayable. Yet he had a bigger tendency to participate in almost every action with very few mistakes. At the same time, older Messi was more "dominant" in terms of actually managing both team in a match.

1998/99 Beckham was pretty unstoppable. He could cross from any angle, score freekicks, dribble if necessary, he would put in a defensive effort aswell.

Yeah if I had to pick just ONE player from a specific season in his career to take my team to glory today... prime Beckham was crazy levels of footballing consistency.

Of players, not mentioned so far I'd say Eusebio particularly up through 1965 (although he keeps up great goal scoring numbers up until the end of the 1972-73 season, Stiles in 1966 and 1968 as well as Voronin in 1966 were able to largely contain him)

Yaya Toure was pretty hard to stop once he got going.

However, it probably has to be peak Maradonna overall. Played in a era of bad pitches and hard tackling and still glided around and made the game look effortless. Additionally he too OK teams to league titles/world cups rather than just being a biggest component of a great team.

For the GK version it's Brad Friedel whenever he plays against a title winning United side and his team is absolute crap.

My choice too - beautifully articulated!

Second half of 2011 Lionel Messi.

Boring answer, but it’s true. The guy walked past 5 Madrid defenders specifically sent out with instructions to butcher him to score, then humiliated the English champions with a VdS Rio Vidic trifecta in the final, as he did 2 years earlier, only better.

When it comes to playing the game as if other players don’t exist on the same pitch, I don’t think I’ve seen any other as dominant.

Ronaldinho. For a few seasons he was the most incredible player I have ever seen. Speed, passing, strength, outrageous tricks and always smiling. It was as if he had discovered a cheat code. At his peak he was unplayable.

At their absolute peak? Kaka. Made a fool out of our top defence and midfield as if he was an adult against kids in a playground.
Both Rio and Vidic were injured during the 2007 semifinals. Rio didn’t play a single minute, while Vidic was rushed back for the second leg but was far from his best. Evra also missed the second leg.

Kaka was great in that tie, but he did it against a depleted defence. He then went completely missing in the final.

This implies attackers.

Truly unplayable on a consistent basis:
1. Messi 06-13, 14/15, 18/19
2. R9 96 to 98
3. Ronaldinho 03 - 06
4. Neymar if not injured or attending his sister's birthday: 14/15, 15/16, 17/18, 18/19, 19/20; although the seasons at PSG are difficult to judge.
5. Cristiano 06/07 season: For me, his best season ever; the numbers may not have been as astonishing as subsequent seasons, but his allround play consistently reached its highest peak ever.
6. Henry in the premier league
7. Hazard in the premier league and 2018 world cup

Truly unplayable on their day:
1. Messi in other seasons not mentioned
2. Cristiano 07/08, 09-14
3. Iniesta
3. Zidane
3. Kaka 06/07
6. Mbappe
7. Robben
7. Ribery
7. Figo
10. Giggs

Rooney at the start of the 2011-12 season was probably the best player I've ever seen play for United, with two consecutive hat-tricks against Arsenal and Bolton and an instrumental role in big wins against Spurs and Chelsea. Shame it only lasted for about five games... Not to say he was crap after that, mind. Just not completely unplayable like he had been.

I recently saw some videos of peak Rivaldo and he was an unstoppable beast, a fecking one-man army.

And it's not the phone.

Paul Scholes. His football iq was on a diffrent level. You couldn't get the ball from him. His passing would have you chasing shadows. He dictated play like I have never seen before or since. His passing range was at a level that we might not ever see again. Scored some unbelievable goals that are untouchable on a skill level.
