Who is the best penalty taker ever?

Probably would have to say Ronaldo. He probably doesn't have as high a % as some on the list, but I can't remember ever watching him line up and think he wouldn't score.

Kane has already been mentioned, he has to be up there. Lampard was brilliant from the spot too. Hazard didn't take the same volume as others, but I don't remember him ever missing?

Scored 53, missed 8.

Interestingly, of his 8 misses, in 7 of the games his team still won the game (the other one ended was a draw).

I remember at least 2 of his misses that bounced back to him and he scored the rebound.

Zidane scored some big ones, including a panenka in a world cup final. But then I looked it up and saw he only took 15 in his career, scoring 11. Always imagined he'd taken more than that

Cristiano has scored an awful lot of important penalties in his career.

Cristiano has missed several crucial penalties throughout his career. Off the top of my head, I recall his misses in the UCL final against Chelsea, the UCL semifinal against Barcelona in 2008, in the FA Cup against Middlesbrough during his second stint at United, in a UCL semifinal against Bayern Munich while at Real Madrid, during extra time against Slovenia in the last Euro, and another miss in the World Cup group stage (though I can't remember the opponent).

Given all these misses in important moments, I find it hard to understand why he is regarded as a great penalty taker. Personally, I've never felt entirely confident with him stepping up to take them. We were fortunate to progress past Barcelona in that semifinal thanks to Paul Scholes' brilliant goal, and to win the UCL against Chelsea due to Terry's slip and Van der Sar's heroics. However, the outcome could have been very different had his penalties cost us those opportunities. While many of his missed penalties haven't had significant consequences and are often forgotten, there have certainly been plenty of occasions where his misses came at critical times.

From the ones I've seen, Harry Kane, Bruno Fernandes, Cristiano Ronaldo and Robert Lewandowski from the top of my mind.

Maybe it was his style then that made him seem so good. He was one of the first I can remember with the stutter and roll down the middle.

Le Tiss's record is great but he never really took a high pressure penalty. They were almost all in league games or early round cup ties.
Le Tiss probably had the most pressure penalties than most. Most of this career he was keeping Southampton from relegation.

Hard to look past Eric, especially with his two penalties in the '94 FA Cup final.

Both in the same spot, sent the keeper the wrong way both times. Cool as you like.

Google says:

1) Le Tissier: 48 of 49, scored on 98%
2) Platini: 44 of 45, scored on 97%
3) Van Basten: 51 of 55, scored on 94%
4) Shearer: 72 of 78, scored on 92%
5) Balotelli: 47 of 52, scored on 90%
6) Bruno: 46 of 51, scored on 90%

I do not know, why Ivan Toney is not on the list.

Shout out to Graham Alexander, 72 out of 76.

Julian Dicks took good pens. Absolutely twatted the ball so hard if it was on target it was going in.

No idea who is the best statistically, but I remember Shearer used to just run up and smash them into the corner every time. No faffing about.

Ronald Koeman. Scored 113 out of 121 taken penalties.
Close first choice for me although I preferred Michael Kutzop's style. And of course the drama that came along with his unexpected miss losing the title to Bayern in 96.

The list isn't complete. Players like Koeman are also missing.
