This is basically my feelings too.

I'm confident we can do enough to beat every team left in.

The Roma fear based on I'm assuming Jose is funny, like he's some unbeatable boogeyman who will no doubt get revenge against. I'd have fancied his chances against us under Ole, but we are a different prospect now.
While Roma is very beatable, we're not really that different prospect in an one off game. Yes we improved and have an identity that we play more sustainable style, and maintain more consistent level. However, we're worse off in term of individual brilliance/talent than yesteryears. Mourinho's bus parking tactic is about containing opponent teamwork, so opposition individual brilliant moment is often required to break it down.

Ole team may often struggle with inconsistency and low quality teamwork, but due to having many talented fit players, the players can turn up having world class equivalent performance. There is a reason Ole team is full of freak result/scoreline going both way. Right now, even when we play well, we don't exactly slay team easily. The close scoreline against Barcelona when we clearly played better is one example. If Mourinho Roma turns up and contains our best players (they can be better than Barcelona at this) them nicks a soft goal or two like Barcelona, we may likely have more trouble than against Barcelona.

So my point being, in cup competition, in one off game, our current team is not that much greater than the latent quality of Ole team. Having much individual (attacking) talent in itself is a good thing in one off game, which we lack right now.

I think we should get a La Liga trophy if we beat Seville.

It's crazy we are playing 3 Spanish teams in a row. Maybe the EL and CL should have mechanisms in place to prevent that in the draw.

Barca -> Betis -> Sevilla -> Juve -> Roma

There have been CL winners with easier paths than that!

Ridiculous potential run on paper for Europa League level. What is it with getting Spanish teams this season.

We got to play schalk in the CL SF that one season and Marseille if I recall correctly before that.

Tbh it could be worse. Low-key thought we would get Sevilla and if we did I feel we can beat them this time (as I did vs Liverpool :nervous:).

Why on earth would we rest a player who will miss the next four domestic games?
I meant he should be well rested/fit and firing as he misses the next four domestic fuxtures.

I acknowledge my initial post was ambiguous!

These lot are a few points above the relegation zone in the same league where we dumped out the leaders. They also got knocked out by West Ham last season. Stop the bedwetting.

Ye they also knocked us out the CL a few years ago and are the Europa league specialist. You’re right though, we shouldn’t be scared of them or anyone else in this tournament for that matter. We knocked out the favourites Barca. It’s ours to lose!

So it seems EtH is going to exorcise the ghosts of United's past this season in the EL. All the Spanish teams in the knockouts, possibly followed by Juve (Di Maria and Pogba, who won't play) and Rome (Mourinho). Funny how football always has a habit of writing these scripts.

I've always said the Europa is a strange competition - just because a side is in it doesn't mean they aren't going well the following season. I mean who would ever dream of Juve being in it and who would an opponent want to play against, present United or last season's United? The extra games they factored in this season, for no better reason than some suit had to show he was doing some work, makes it crazier.

I predicted we'd get Sevilla but I was hoping for Gauloise Cigarettes, given that I hadn't even head of them until about a month ago!

They got Alex Telles now. Different animal

I mean...Sevilla are just two points clear of relegation in La Liga. I really don't think this is the worst draw we could have got, despite all the "it's their trophy/competition" stuff. They really need to kick on in their league.

Juve or Sporting is a tricky one should we progress but beat them and we're facing either Bayer Leverkusen (9th in their league) Feyenoord (1st in Dutch league) or Roma (5th in Seria A). Not exactly terrifying opposition with all due respect.

Could hardly have been worse, the semi-final draw especially.

Still. Should be doable.

Beating Jose's Roma in the finals would be king.

Over two legs you would hope our quality will prevail.

Those wanting Jose in the final - remember he's already done a number on ETH in a Europa Cup Final! He will make it a non-football game and anything could happen, so I'd rather not Roma if we manage to make it that far.

When?

Im really liking the quality of the European League late stages. Some real quality teams even for a supposed B tier tournament

Does this make sense any more now that we don't have away goals? I'd have thought finishing at home would always be better, now the away goals jeopardy rule has gone.
Well if we tonk them by 3 or 4 in the first leg it makes perfect sense!

We’re being tested hard this season. Our record vs Spanish teams is abysmal, we can turn that bad record around this year. Fingers crossed!

Boring for the travelling fans, but I don't mind another Spanish team. Especially not one that is two points ahead of relegation in the La Liga. They guys have beaten Barcelona, why would they be afraid of Sevilla.

Ofcourse we fecking get Sevilla again!

Yeah Sociedad in groups and now Barca,Betis and Sevilla in consecutive KO ties. Typically we are in the same half as Juventus/Sporting as well.
